Airport Smart Parking Charleroi - scheme by staff to extort travelers- AVOID!!!
At the moment of booking of parking on the website the process was not completed on the first attempt due to a website error. When restarting the booking I have failed to see that reset of my settings regarding the number of passengers. The system has put one by default. I paid 22 euros. The price does not vary for less than 5 passengers. In my case I was traveling with my 10-year-old child.
I arrived at the parking at 6:50, on 24 July 2018. My bookings was for 7:00 and my plane was taking off at 9:20. Upon arrival, I was told that because I had booked only for one person, I was not allowed to park.
I tried to call the number give non the reservation but nobody answered.
I asked the parking staff how much I have to pay in order to solve the issue.
I was told to redo the reservation on the website. I tried but it did not work. The stuff said then that I have to pay him the 22 euros again. While this discussion was taking place two busses have left the parking half empty. At no point was I told that the problem was they had no place for my 10-year-old son, the problem is that the "form" was not completed properly. Leaving my 10-year-old alone, unattended in the airport, while I was returning to park the car was not an option in the mind of any sane person.
I asked to speak to the senior staff or manager; the person I was already talking to told me that HE IS the MANAGER in a very aggressive manner. He did not speak English, as advertised on the website, I was talking to him in English and he was replying to me in French.
As the time was passing and no solution was in site, instead of risking to miss my flight I have decided to go to the airport parking, pay their fee and be done with it. I had considered parking as calling for a taxi, but at this point, seeing how aggressive the staff member was, I had serious concerns for the safety of my vehicle. Anyway, the staff member never proposed this possibility, he flat-out refused to let me park.
Why would anybody in the right mind think it is acceptable to pay twice for a service purely for the purpose of correcting a "clerical error", when said error had no impact on price or the ability to provide the service??
I am certain, given the fact that this person was "the manager", he knew exactly what was possible or not with regards to how the website booking works and he knew very well that you cannot make a booking and park right away. It is my conviction that this is a scheme that he/the staff is applying to extort travelers who are of the out of time and out of options. I would be surprised if this treatment is not applied to other customers that fail to fill in the form to a T. I was never offered an apology, let alone a refund, be it partial.
This episode is especially disgusting, since the last time I used this parking, I had proposed to the staff to wait for a couple of travelers who were late, to save the bus another trip to the airport. The courtesy is obviously not reciprocal.
