Then again, the only other state that can be reached by rail happens to be New South Wales, which is to the south. You could get to South Australia, but there isn't a railway that is able to take you there. Anyway, the station itself is actually quite nice, though I did find the elevators to be pretty slow. Also, trains don't come as often as I'd like them to.

Weirdly I used to forget this and get off at Central, however I've finally learned and now use this as an access point to one of my favourite areas of the inner city. I also like how it's one of the only original buildings in the area. Thankfully the renovation has been pretty thoughtful so most of the old school ambiance is still evident.

The busses do come through here rather frequently as well, though a number of them do tend to be express. However, having a dedicated busway station does work.

Would bridge again…read more Traffic across is fine both ways in the morning, can get a bit congested going from South Brisbane to the City in the evening, particularly if there is an event on at the Suncorp Stadium. But it's free, and generally about as quick as the Go-Between (which is about $2.50 I think). Why go anywhere else for your bridging needs?

It is a product of Brisbane in the 1930s and has that old school, art deco charm and sophistication about it. It is a classy structure to look at, unlike some of the more modern monstrosities around (I am looking at you Kurilpa Bridge with your mess of cables). William Jolly opened in 1932 and was originally just known as the Grey Street Bridge. It connects Grey street in South Brisbane to Roma Street in the city. You can choose to either drive, walk or cycle across William Jolly but I have only driven. It has two lanes of traffic in either direction but this still gets congested during peak hour. The Go Between Bridge is close by and since this toll bridge opened it has eased traffic a little on William Jolly. Still for those of us too cheap to pay a toll, William Jolly is a lovely drive.

The Bridge connects the M3 with the Pacific Motorway and is the path to take if you are heading to Wooloongabba or further south from the CBD. The Captain Cook Bridge opened in 1972 and is purely a vehicle traffic bridge. If you need to walk or cycle across the river then the Goodwill Bridge is not to far away. When driving across Captain Cook, I hardly feel like I am on a bridge at all. The design is simplistic and it really is a functional Brisbane Bridge rather than an appealing landmark like the Story Bridge for example. The bridge has four lanes of traffic in either direction so it really does just feel like an extension of the motorway. Still, it does make travel that little bit more convenient.

I remember my Grandfather telling me that when he arrived in Brisbane around 60 years ago this was…read morethe tallest building in the city...which as a kid and even now amazed me as almost all of the giant structures in its vicinity dwarf it considerably. Its one of those buildings that you just have to check out if you get the chance as there aren't too many of them left. Buildings like City Hall offer us a beautiful look into this city's past, showing us the architecture of the time and how far we have come, allowing us to imagine how things were when our parents or grandparents saw them with their own eyes. I was fortunate enough to take a good look around the inside of this place before they started the restoration/renovations a few years ago and I remember telling myself 'wow, this is breathtaking, I want to live here, move out council officials I'm moving in!' - Unfortunately that didn't happen...but my attempts at staying there for an extended period one day went quite well until my friends and I were kicked out...No I am not a squatter although I suppose you could label what we were doing as that...We had decided one day to get into the lift, take it to the top of the clock tower and see how long we could stay up there without being asked to leave. You see the view from up there although obstructed by the architectural monstrosities of today is still worth the trip. I hope they will allow the public to go up into the tower once more as last I heard they restricted access long ago (maybe the restorations will change that). I cant wait to see what they have done with the place!

It's lovely taking the bus over Victoria Bridge on a sunny afternoon when the bridge is packed with tourists taking in the sights and posing for photos. There are great views on either side of the bridge, with South Bank, Kangaroo Point and beyond on one, and West End and Milton on the other. Biking. The walkway can get crowded on some days so riding your bike across can be a bit troublesome. Although the pathway itself is separated into bike and pedestrian lanes, you'll most likely find yourself ringing your bell non stop to warn the throng of walkers. I'd recommend hopping off and pushing your bike alongside you if it's busy, otherwise you risk injuring yourself and others. The only bikes I've seen riding on the road itself are those Green Cabs, and drivers seem to get very frustrated with them, so I'd stick to the pathways. Walking. Victoria Bridge is a great vantage point from which to admire the varied architecture of the city and surrounding bridges, as well as the riverscape itself. During the floods, a lot of people came here to watch the water levels rise and engulf the walkway surrounding the State Library.

Ferny Grove Recycling & Waster Transfer Station is the rubbish tip for the north side of Brisbane…read more There's been many a trip through my life where I've visited to dump all stuff that can't be put in the wheelie bin or picked up by road collection. In these instances I've had to pile up the trailer and do it myself. Depending on how much you are recycling and throwing away you will have to pay. So it's very important that you keep those free tokens that the BCC leave in your letterbox once a year. The staff you'll really encounter are the ones in the booth at the entry and exit of your journey. It isn't like the tips you see on television with their mountains of refuse, it's a big concrete pit where items are thrown into and then crushed so there nobody wading through it looking for little treasures. Just junk.
