I had vague drunken memories of stumbling into a manga shop and finding a mini-Japan style Karaoke box...I must have been here quite a few times with different groups of Japanese friends. However I could never find it again when I was sober. *blushes* Karaoke Epoc is hidden at the back of Adanami Shobo (the Japanese Manga/ book shop on Brewer street.) If you have never been there before, it can be a teeny bit tricky to find...look out for a 'De-lux Cleaning' sign to find the shop. This is one of the least posh karaoke places in London. The decor is a little old/scabby looking...but it is also brilliant! I'll tell you why: - We booked the huuuge room downstairs, and had more than enough room for all 16 of us. There was even enough room for us to dance around the table as well!! - They have teeny 4-6 people rooms upstairs if you have a smaller group. - There was a fridge in the corner, so we brought drinks and kept them cool in there. - The remote control is like a mini computer...you can search by song title or by artist. Ask for help if you can't read Japanese. - There is a decent Japanese/Korean/Chinese selection of songs as well as all the old English favorites. Oooh and a whole page of disney songs!! (^^) - It is really cheap, especially if you go early and have a large group of singing friends. Last night I paid £11 for three hours. I'm not the only on that loves this place!! Abbotsbury Road is a little hidden road in Morden, where you'll find a few restaurants. My salsa friend Hilary and I gave Singing Buddha a whirl before our dance class a few weeks ago. I think we got there really early as the place was deserted. The owners told us that most people go later for a meal, then a good karaoke sing song. The food is served buffet style. I was impressed that they made a point of cooking us some special portions of some of the dishes which weren't ready yet. The selection was what you'd expect - some starters, including crispy aromatic duck, soup, main courses and rice/noodles. The quality was above average but I never usually find buffet style food top notch. The owners were very friendly and keen for us to have a go at the karaoke but it would have been a bit strange singing in an empty restaurant, so we declined. Perhaps with some karaoke atmosphere in the evening, it would turn into a 4 star experience but I can only give it a 3 for now.

The Two Brewers is located in the heart of Hadlow itself. a short walk up form the shops and you can't miss the place! Those that know their real ale pubs and companies will automatically know one thing from the outside- that this is a Harvey's pub. Upon walking through the doors you turn right into what you would think to be a small bar. Quite the opposite in fact! The owners, Chris and Sue Snape will immediately give you a warm welcome (as will Molly, the pub dog!) The pub itself reminds me of the traditional pubs- the way a pub should be. Let's be honest now, most pubs these days have gotten a little carried away with the deco! The Two Brewers however has achieved something that, pub wise at least, is hard to achieve: remain traditonal but still have that clean fresh look to it. The local's are friendly and very easy to talk to and the pub has nice easy atmosphere to go with it. What is suprising is the amount of beers avaliable- a minimum of two beers on pump at any point (all Harveys, naturally!) with many more bottled beers behind the bar. Make no mistake about it, half the village now come here and its no suprise why! the beers average at around a reasonable £2.90 for the average beer. Remember though that prices will vary according to strength (ABV) but that's how most pubs operate. Foodwise The Two Brewers do a good menu at a reasonable price. The menu changes from time to time, of course and the food is cooked well. The best thing to do is ask at the bar of course! All in all The Two Brewers is a well run pub, with Chris and Sue running a tight ship. I can see this being the busiest pub in Hadlow for a long while to come!
