There are a few solid pizza places in Chesterton, and this one is one of my top two, to be sure. The staff is friendly, the service is pretty fast, the menu is fairly broad, and the pizza is amazing. The atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect from a Pizza / Sports Bar kind of place, and this is a great place to catch a hockey game with some friends. I had mango habanero and they were way too sweet. The wings had a texture similar to frozen wings which I don't care for, kind of rubbery. The pizza tasted like delivery quality. Tons of cheese, fairly flavorless toppings, bland crust and sauce was too sweet. I hate to be too picky because I really wanted to like this place. We were hesitant to try this restaurant at first based on the other reviews, but since it was just across the street from our hotel, we decided to give it a chance. I'm glad we did because: 1. We had mac n cheese, two salads, and two pizzas--they were all very delicious. 2. This place was very kid-friendly. 3. The entire staff was extremely nice. 4. We moved to the Chesterton area this summer and AJ's quickly became our family's favorite pizza joint. There hasn't been anything we've order we didn't like. I came in 20 years experience in Italian restaurants serving pizza. I will gladly give it 7 stars for their options and the way they serve it. I am in Indiana to see my husband and last night we went to have dinner at this pizza shop. I must say it was not my favorite. We ordered a pitcher of beer, two appetizers (mozzarella sticks and bread twists) and a medium size pepperoni thick crust pizza. The pitcher of beer was a bit flat. The appetizers were yummy. The mozzarella sticks and bread sticks were freshly made. The pizza was not my favorite or the best because it tasted very similar to a frozen pizza. It was not freshly made. My husband and I even lifted the pizza off the ridged pizza pan that was given to us and we can tell the ridges didn't match so it didn't look like it was baked freshly. There were also so many large black flies flying around our table on top of that and one landed in my water. My husband and I are very modest people and we are not snobs. We love pizza and it's our go to meal always since it's hard to butcher pizza but this restaurant was not the best. I do not recommend this place. read more

Terrible service. Waited 20 minutes for a waitress to come out. 40 min for food to come out after, 2 sandwiches, Mac and cheese and a salad. Probably close to 25 people I see walk in and out that got their food. Made a reservation for 6:30 got our drinks taken at 7 and food came out at 7:40 pm. Unacceptable. Told they don't have wings to order. Would have been nice to know that after you took 20 min to come get our drink order, so that I could have planned to order something different. No, just had to settle with a pesto chicken sandwich. Didn't eat it and won't be back to dine in and will be sure to communicate this type of lazy service to the community. We had a small sausage and pepperoni pizza, roast beef sandwich, ham and cheese sandwich, salad with chicken and other various items on it and their home made potato chips. The pizza was just ok. The roast beef was dry dry dry. The au jus was passing. You had to dip your sandwich in there for every bite. The ham and cheese was ok. The salad was actually pretty good. The home made chips were not served with any kind of dip, I asked if they could put blue cheese on them after they fried them. They said no. Sizes and prices weren't listed anywhere for it, so it was a surprise. It was $16.85 for a medium. We also got a ham and cheese sandwich with fries. It to a but for the food to come out considering they weren't very busy. It finally came out. The pizza was good. The ham and cheese left something to be desired. The ham is entirely too salty paired with that cheese and bread. After a couple bites it felt as if you'd just eaten the ocean floor. The fries were delicious though. Overall good, tweak the sandwich though. The service left something to be desired. As I said, they weren't too busy, but we never got refills on our drinks, and we were never asked if the food tasted ok. Another server came and took some dishes, and our server came by and took dishes but didn't ask if we needed anything or Joe the food was. The next time he can't by was to tell me he was bringing the check. Overall just awkward and left me thirsty..... In more ways than one. I ate there 4 times in 2 weeks. Have the thin crust, pizza twice, a salad and the beef garlic sandwich. The sandwich was to die for.

I was on a long drive back from MI to IL and pulled off the highway to grab lunch. AJ's is right there off exit 31 (Chesterton/Valpo), easy on and off the highway. The food was excellent. Called to order for delivery and was denied. They deliver as far as South Haven (which I confirmed by having a pizza delivered to friends on Heritage Rd) but they will not deliver on McCool. I assume this means their cut off radius is 700 N... I could have had them meet me at the fire station but I'm not paying a delivery fee if I have to drive. I'll order from JJ's instead Just a tip for the owner. If you're going to keep South Haven in your delivery area, you should deliver to ALL of South Haven. The pizza is my favorite. It has good tasting sauce. Thin crust is what I like. I haven't tried any other crusts.The toppings are fresh. The Italian sausage is obviously from a a sausage link which is good. They put a nice heaping portion of cheese. I've went in to pick up pizza and had them delivered. I can't review the restaurant ambience. The service is good. They listen well so you don't have to keep repeating your order. They give realistic time estimates on delivery. The quickest I have got a a pizza delivered was 1 hour, but that is what they told me it would be. The service here lately is definitely going downhill. Food takes a very long time to arrive, and at times it is hard to find a server if you need a refill of a drink or anything else. It would make sense if the server gave you the bill when food is ready so that you don't have to waste time trying to track them down when finished with your meal. I've been here maybe three times in the year of 2021, and two of the three visits I have found hair baked INTO the crust. Not in the sauce or toppings but baked into the crust.
