A couple of my friends mentioned how good this spot is & I had to take my mom for Mother's Day to try for ourselves since she loves sushi. The small lot has crowded parking, but there's street parking and I was very lucky. It's a small mom & pops place, which usually is a great sign for sushi. Because seating is quite limited, reservations for omakase (really good value) at the bar is recommended & definitely get on the Yelp waitlist as soon as you're within 2 miles or you will be in for a wait. The staff here is knowledgeable about the menu so don't be shy about asking for their specials. We waited 15-20 min, but I will say the food is so worth it. Must tries, crispy bites, king crab chawanmushi, black cod handrolls, the bluefin burrata. Everything tasted excellent, which is rare. Even the ice cream made in house was phenomenal & I'd go back just for that.

I've passed by Akami Sushi over a thousand times but never wanted to try because of the outdated exterior located within a small plaza that's shared with a sus looking massage parlor. However, I was told they remodeled so I decided to try. Definitely the best decision ever because my favorite Otoro was so fresh and the Wagyu sashimi was just perfect! Prices are reasonable and the service was excellent. It was a 9/10 - highly recommended!

I've come here twice now and am glad to have found this restaurant. The fish quality is great and the price is reasonable. The parking lot is tiny, but there's street parking in the residential area. The restaurant is small with some tables and bar seating. The staff are attentive and and service was pretty quick. I've tried the omakase and I definitely recommend it. There's a $125 and $175 option for omakase, with the difference being the number of pieces. My group wasn't super hungry so we picked the $125 and we were very full at the end. I also got the matcha lychee highball. It's easy to drink and you don't notice the alcohol. I came a second time to order from the menu. The omakase had a small bowl of their mentaiko mazemen that was so good, we came back to order the entree. I also tried the chirashi. All the fish is seasoned so you don't need soy sauce. The rice is also seasoned. The fish was fresh and the portion size is pretty big. Also tried their scallop carpaccio which was very buttery smooth. The matcha creme brulee was a miss for me. It's very strong in matcha flavor (which I like), but the consistency was too soft. I think when they caramelized the sugar, the custard heated up too much so it was more runny than thick. Definitely coming again to explore more of the menu.

Sushi & Sashimi Lunch Special

Came on a weekday at noon. Right at 12 the every seat in the restaurant was filled, and there's a reason why! I came for the lunch special specifically the sushi & sashimi plate. I'm a big fan of variety and this lunch special really hit the spot! The fish is fresh & there's not too much rice in each bite. The sides are also a big plus too. Overall, having lunch here did not disappoint!!

For 2, we ordered sushi deluxe, mentaiko pasta, mixed tempura, akami don set, and salmom handroll. My favorite would be the sushi deluxe's chutoro. It was soft and melted in my mouth. They let you choose between tuna or negitoro for the sushi roll in the sushi deluxe but negitoro is an additional $3 The mentaiko pasta tasted like the sea. Although im not a fan of uni or roe it was good. Akami don set came with yellow tail sashimi and after you finish the fish, yoh can tell them and they will add soup in it for you to finish off the rice. I wished they gave more seaweed to make a baby handroll for the akami don though. The tempera was light and crispy but it was hard to eat the enoki because it was 1 big piece. I also like soy paper now so i tried the soy paper handroll with salmon. It was good but eel is probably better for soy paper rolls. Service here was really good. They explained why the bar was blocking off the view as akami opened during covid time so they had to block the view from customers and chef. It would be too expensive to change so maybe in the far future they will be able to. Parking is very small but you can either park in the back or on the streets.

Various sushi as recommended including king salmon, blue fin tuna, halibut fin and A5 wagyu.

Best sushi I have had in a while. The staff was great and very knowledgeable with recommendations. We tried a few things that I can't even remember, but they were all great. Some of our favorites were the king salmon sushi, blue fin tuna sushi, halibut fin sushi and A5 wagyu sushi. Inside has the layout similar to the former Mako Sushi just more modern.

My friend heard great things about this place so we came here for Tuesday night dinner. I didn't know how the Yelp waitlist worked but they have a little sign out front explaining it. Basically you join the waitlist then check in with the host and that's how you get on. It was deceiving just looking at the Yelp because it always showed a 0 minute wait time. It probably took us an hour to get seated which was crazy. It is a small interior so it was a given we'd wait. Takoyaki (3/5): Standard takoyaki. Not much octopus. Soft shell crab (4/5): This was free because we waited so long. It was good. Nice fry on it. Not oily. Mentaiko mazemen (4/5): This had temomi noodles which are thick and chewy wheat noodles. It was topped with a cod roe sauce, white truffle oil and ikura. It was a good noodle dish. It wasn't too salty and the sauce was creamy. Portion was small. Rainbow roll (5/5): The assorted fish tasted fresh. It was a good sized roll. Sushi set premium (5/5): This set was perfect. It came with a few sides, a bowl of rice, and a good assortment of sashimi. There was yellow tail, salmon, toro, tuna, snapper?, egg, and cooked salmon. The little seaweed salad was good too. Overall, a great dinner spot for sushi. I'll probably come back and join the online waitlist faster. You can't make a reservation for regular seating, only omakase.

Deluxe Sashimi Set

The fish was reasonably priced and decent. I like the clean interior, and their service ware was beautiful. We came here for lunch to celebrate my bday. The place started filling up closer to 1pm. The cocktails were pretty good, and I love how the glasses that they served our large beer with. I would return if I'm in the hood.

Found this place recently, and have been back 3 times so far. Not only is the food good, the service is also exceptional! The service is fast paced and the servers tend to you really quickly. The restaurant also gives a very Japanese vibe, with bars and tables options. I would say the most notable nigiri here is their engawa (halibut fin). It's generous and fragrant. Another notable dish is the mentaiko pasta. As someone who does not like mentaiko, I vouch that this is really good! Another thing to add is that they carry different variety of fishes that I have never seen in other restaurants before. One thing I have to mention is that the restaurant is a bit small, and while street parking is an option, parking can still be challenging especially during dinner time.

Sushi deluxe set. So fresh, so good.

We celebrated my friend's birthday here and everything was amazing. The modern minimalistic decor was the first thing that caught my eye. The left side of the restaurant had tables and the right side was the sushi bar. It felt cozy, but not crowded. Service was good and the food was exquisite. We ordered the toro uni caviar crispy bite to share and oh my gah, it was pristine. The uni tasted so fresh, straight from the sea. The toro was melt in your mouth and the caviar added the perfect amount of saltiness. We each got the sushi deluxe set and were able to try 11 different types of nigiri, a toro roll, and tamago. All the sushi tasted fresh and the rice was perfectly tempered. We also added the white dragon roll. I don't usually like soy paper wraps but this one was really good. It was seasoned well and umami-rich. I would order it again. The chili mango cocktail was the best! You can barely taste the alcohol. I could drink 5 of those! I will definitely be back with the hubby for date night.

Deluxe sashimi combo

Tucked in a small plaza on Live oak is Akami sushi with a homey comfortable vibe. Sat at the bar twice with my first experience trying the deluxe sashimi. The portions are good. The fish is fresh and thick pieces. So I was really excited to give it another try for other stuff that they have to offer. The overall service is friendly and they can't refill waters or ask you if you need anything else. Went back again for dinner this time and order their special Kaisen Don along with a vegetable tempura. The tempura is decent with good portions. The Kaisen Don however, turn out to be a disappointment for me personally. I hardly ate a fourth of the bowl. The sauce that you see right on the top with an egg yolk inside is the drizzling sauce for the Kaisen Don. The sauce is very overpowering. It even has a little bit of more a sweeter side tone to it that I don't think really compliments the overall seafood inside the Kaisen Don ask the Kai and Don already contains quite a lot of Ikura, which is already salty, and the crab creaminess is completely covered by the sauce so you cannot taste the sweetness of the crab. I would probably opt for a lighter sauce version or even just a regular ponzu sauce to drizzle over it might be enough to highlight the fish taste, and the freshness of the Kaisen Don. For very similar price I would probably recommend getting the sashimi deluxe version instead of the Kaisen Don. You actually get more pieces of thick cut fish instead of in the Kaisen. It's all diced fish pieces so cannot tell if those fishes are the leftovers from sashimi slices. Either fish is still really fresh, but I personally would recommend the sashimi over the Don. The chef at the sushi bar did notice I wasn't really eating my Kai symptoms so they asked what happened and I explained to them that the sauce is really strong and overpowering. It's very hard to finish the bowl. I am definitely not requesting for an entire replacement of the meal but instead I was just given a vanilla ice cream as a apology so slightly disappointing for spending $60 I believe plus tax and tip for something that I didn't even eat a quarter of. I would still give this restaurant another try for some other food or maybe just go back for their Sashimi deluxe or even their Chirashi bowl. Overall, I would give it a 3.5 star with the two experiences that I had dining there. Hope that would change next time I go~

We came to this place for lunch at around 12pm and were lucky to sit right away. We ordered several things Mentaiko mazemen 4/5. I extremely love the sauce, buttery and eggy. However, the noodles are a little hard, not at al dente level to me. I still recommend this dish a lot though Kaisen don 4/5. I don't recommend pouring in the soup as instructed. I liked to eat it dry as it was. The fish was fresh. Lots of unami flavor with the egg yolk added. I wish they gave me more seaweed though. There were only 2 pieces. Premium sushi set 5/5 were so big. All the fishes were fresh. The little citrusy, gingery add on to the top makes the sushi tastes distinctively unique and refreshing, balancing between ocean and land. Overall I wish they give me bigger glasses of water I need more water refills. My friend and I were finishing the water constantly. Service otherwise was good. I would come back.

They have a lot of tables inside so it is great for small and large groups. The waiters were also fast even though they were busy. We ordered their Kung Pao Chicken, Fried Tofu, Beef Noodle, Shrimp w Walnut, and Vegetable w Garlic. We decided not to get lobster since it was pricey. They took our order pretty fast and gave tea to drink. The pot of white rice is extra $1 if you order though. And their menu book doesn't have prices for some reason. Only the to-go menu has prices. Food was served in a decent amount of time, around 15 minutes. And all dishes arrived close together so we didn't have to wait long. The kung pao chicken is so good! Not spicy at all and very nice and crispy with good seasoning. It tasted delicious with some rice. The beef noodles were also delicious! It had good wok taste and was very flavorful. The tofu and shrimp were also good. None of the dishes were too salty and all were seasoned well and in pretty big portions, though I don't remember the exact price since they took the receipt away when we paid. But the meal was very worth and we had leftovers for lunch the next day. Such a yummy meal! I really enjoyed it! I am definitely coming back again!

Boston Lobster is officially my go-to location for any|all Asian lobster cravings!! Newport…read morewho?????!!! My family and I used to religiously eat lobster noodles whenever we made a trip down to SoCal. The pick of the bunch was 100% Newport Seafood- no negotiations, no contemplations. Unfortunately, the last handful of times have left me extremely disappointed and heavily annoyed. The cost and wait times do not reflect what is actually being provided and most of our food ends up being left behind because it simply isn't worth the calories. In all honestly, I've grown a phobia w/ that specific restaurant at this point because of the countless letdowns. My initial taste of Boston Lobster was about 3 years ago and I had the most enjoyable meal. Due to our LA trip coming to an end, my BD thought we should do it big with some lobster noodles- for good old time's sake. I absolutely refused to go anywhere unless we would be giving Boston Lobster a visit! Sure enough, they did not disappoint! Dinner for 3 adults and 1 toddler consisted of: *Boston House Special Lobster [no spice] + Garlic Noodles for an additional fee. Medium Size 5-6lbs minimally. *French Style Beef Cube *Sauteed Snow Pea Leaves We ate like mf'n KINGS!! Each and every dish was spectacular- even the greens! While we should have gone with the small sized lobster, I'm proud to say we went down with an honorable fight. Lmao!! The lobster was cooked to perfection- meat was sweet, succulent, and so darn tender. The garlic noodles soaked up all of the delicious lobster flavors and were not overcooked and mush. The bo luc lac was flavorful, juicy, and complimented the bed of lettuce, onions, & tomatoes so well. The snow pea leaves weren't tough and old- this truly was a simply yet magical dish. Service was on point and the staff continually came by to swap out our plates full of lobster shells. Above all, there was no wait with our initial arrival. Parking is easy given the fact that BL has a pretty big parking lot specifically for them. 5/5 stars!! We dropped over 3 bills here and it didn't even hurt. Lmao- this place is that damn good! Don't sleep on this joint, y'all. Boston Lobster is the real deal when it comes to authentic Chinese/Vietnamese cuisine. This spot should be so much more hyped than it actually is!

The calamari was whatever, I felt it was too battery for my personal liking but my friend loved it. The oysters were smaller than what I usually get from other restaurant but it still hit the spot. The entree was amazing and the jambalaya has quite a kick to it even when I ordered it at medium heat. There was plenty of shrimp, mussels, sausages, and protein in the pasta and rice dish. The environment is family-friendly, with several tables occupied by kids and families. Just be aware that the music and overall noise level are fairly loud. Service was attentive and they checked up on us regularly. We ordered 2 dozen oysters ($1.50 each), the fish and chips ($11.50), mussels and clams ($10.50), and a beer. The oysters were fresh, mostly clean, and came with the usual accompaniments. My only minor complaint is that small seafood forks would have been nice to have available. The mussels and clams were the disappointment of the meal. While the broth itself was flavorful, the portion was downright sad. We received only 4 mussels and 4 clams total, and the bowl felt almost empty. The standout was definitely the fish and chips. Dare I say the best fish and chips I've ever had? The batter was well-seasoned without being overly salty. The fish was crispy, hot, flaky, and surprisingly not too greasy. The fries were also excellent, with a crunchy exterior and fluffy, mashed potato-like interior. I would absolutely order this again. Overall, for happy hour, come for the fresh oysters and fish and chips. Skip the embarrassingly skimpy bowl of mussels and clams.

We came here around 5:30PM and the traffic to get to Shrimp House was pretty bad. Found out that you can enter from Myrtle and from Live Oak. We were on Myrtle and went onto Live Oak thinking that was the only entrance.. that was a mistake due to the backed up traffic during the time. When we got there, we were seated at a table. It was pretty crowded, full of older people. The guests were friendly and seemed to be regulars of the place. When the waitress came to us, she took our order. We ordered: Popcorn Shrimp - Loved this sooo much! Reminds me of Sizzler. Popcorn shrimp was hot, fresh, and had a crispy batter! The actual popcorn bedding added to the theme :) 9/10 Ceviche - We got the Mexican style and it was good. Not as good at Kickin Shrimp, but it was a good appetizer to start with. 7/10 Clam Chowder - This clam chowder reminds me of Sizzler's clam chowder. It was creamy and thick, and had a few bits of clams. 7/10 Grilled Seafood Sampler - The fish was nice and flaky. Very flavorful with the seasoning that they used. The shrimp was nicely grilled. We were not a fan of the bell pepper that was on the skewer that bled into the shrimp itself. The flavor was a bit intrusive considering shrimp already has a light flavor. Finally the scallops were a pass. Just grilled, nothing amazing. 7/10 overall Shrimp Scampi Linguine - Not sure what the hype was about, but this was the most forgetful dish I had here. The linguini was a bit soft/overcooked, the fettuccini sauce was thick and not too cheesy, but more creamy, if that makes sense, and the shrimp was just shrimp (possibly the grilled shrimp) and was just drowned in the fettuccini sauce and lost any natural flavors it would've had. 3/10 Chocolate Lava Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream: Out of the disappointing Shrimp Scampi Linguini, the Lava cake made up for it. We do not usually get dessert, but we were sure glad we got this. Similar to the pazooki from BJ's, but a hot choco cake instead. I can do without the whipped cream though, since I don't like it too much. 8/10 Overall, this place is a small, quaint place for seafood. The appeal is the hometown feel, friendly service, all while providing good, affordable seafood.

I am disappointed... please read on. There's a ton of…read moreeateries stacked together right near my hotel, noodles, yakitori, steak, sushi, but this place is touted as a Dim Sum place. I can in and found they only do Dom Sum in the morning??? WTF??? Okay this sux, but I'm here so let's go. The dining area is huge and it's really pretty. The service is great, fast friendly and attentive. I ordered the Thai Combo Chow fun and it was delicious. A bargain too! $20 buck plus tip not too shabby. The place is excellent but I shaved off a star because there is no warning that you can't order Dim Sum at dinner. Not cool!

Although I was a little confused on why some dishes were plated off centered. It made me think the dish was missing some parts or something. Their service was really good and attentive. Food was flavorful and portion was pretty generous. I sometimes leave restaurants with tasting menus still hungry but I left feeling pretty content this time. Best part was the price didn't break my wallet! I thought it was pretty affordable even though this restaurant is somewhat upscale. I would recommend coming to try their new menu!
