Really yummy food!!…read more Went here for dinner last night, it's a really nice little restaurant, which had a busy fun atmosphere. We had the hot mezze to start, this included calamari (not rubbery, really really good) halloumi cheese, them pastry things with cheese and spinach, falafel, and Turkish sausage. over all it was really good. The bread was really good too. For main we shared a platter with lamb Shish, chicken Shish, lamb chops and chicken wings. This was very good too. Really enjoyed the food and atmosphere, I will defiantly go back, also very cheap for the amount of food we had!!

They got food and drinks out quickly, worked well as a team throughout our visit, and each dish was beautifully prepared. The atmosphere had us wanting to stay for hours; the decor was eye-catching from every view and they offered live entertainment! They had a live singer the night we were there; he matched the overall vibe of the restaurant and wasn't overbearing during our dinner. I would love to come back soon:)

Saying that, there are a few "official" parking spots in front of the restaurant and if you get lucky enough, you can go in and treat yourself to the usual high standard of Turkish cuisine. Prices seem to have edged up slightly but they still represent excellent value for money. My advice is that, if you are going for lunch, skip breakfast, if you are going for dinner, skip both breakfast and lunch because the portion sizes are very generous. About £20 pp inc VAT ex service, without booze.

When it came there was 2 pieces of chicken shish and 2 pieces of lamb shish amongst the cheaper cuts like 4 chicken wings, 4 lamb ribs and kofte. It wasn't enough to share amongst 4 people let alone 5. When my wife politely told the owner we couldn't share the shish as there wasn't enough, the owner got into her face and replied "you don't get 1 piece of everything per person on a platter you get a few mixed things, also there is 10 of you trying to eat out of the platter for 5-6 (when clearly there was 5 of us) and you've come here to eat so just eat and don't cause trouble". We all couldn't believe how the owner spoke to us and my wife was so upset she couldn't eat her meal. The staff was also rolling eyes at us for order tap water. We just calmly continued as we were there for a birthday with other family. When it came to the bill not only did they still charge for my wife's meal which she didn't have, but we found quite a few items that were added on which we didn't have. Items added on were removed. If you still want to dine here be aware of the bill and what you have had as it seems they rely on people not to check it.

Unbeatable Wood…read moreGreen is my new local and since moving from Tufnell Park I keep coming back to Gokyuzu & Kervan.. let's call it G&K from now on. Ok it can be a bit intimidating when busy as it's noisy. Also the lighting makes me feel somewhat uncomfortable but the service is generally excellent and the food is unbeatable.. so you can understand that I have become a bit conservative when eating out in Wood Green. G&K is a Turkish restaurant that serves some authentic food. The plates are full of meat or veg and they provide an excellent salad, bread and dip starter for free. The salad is amazingly fresh every single time, the bread is warm and the dip tasty. The mains have so far never dissapointed. My donner is not too oily and goes well with the rice that's included. My wife's vegetarian was surprising good.. the aubergine was soft, moist, slightly oily and flavoursome. I m tempted to try the veg myself next time but the donner keeps calling me. The mixed grill is exceptional value for money. It has meats, bread and rice from what I remember. You also need at least 3 people to have a proper go at it. For once we tried the dessert.. the baclava was fresh but the rice pudding (called something else) is light and delicious. Personally I prefer the Greek baclava as it's a bit more moist but your taste could be different. To help digest we had some Turkish coffee, again exceptional. Turkish food is the harder edge of middle Eastern food. I always think that they are less delicate in cooking meats than Persian which by the way is my personal favourite. However the mixture of fresh salads seems to lighten the load of the meats on the body. K&G provides both quantity and quality and is well worth a visit.

Loads of meat and not many veggie options. We ordered two starters and two mains. That was way too much! They gave us hummus, bread AND a salad on the house. Plus all the rest of the delicious food this nearly killed me, as I can never resist a great Turkish meal. Also the waiters were amazingly nice and when I asked for some extra rice it was given without any extra charge. Amazing.

It was a great way to introduce my dining companion to this type of food and everything was wonderfully tasty. There's a similar non-vegetarian menu for £35 as well. They're not licensed but you can bring your own wine, and they don't charge corkage.
