The Italian place around the block is great and its close to the charter bus stop. Parking is fine. From 2100-0800 parking is free and all day on weekends and holidays. BUT! if the clerk suggests the parking structure across the street, i would avoid it unless you can't, (they fail to tell tou about its h. If you end up parking in the structure, park on the upper levels and not in the basement. The basement is the parking for the bauhaus store and the gate gets locked after hours, Sundays and holidays. If you end up getting your car locked in there, the bar around the corner opens at 1300, (there is a map). The guy just opened the bar and we had to ask for him to open the doors and the gate to get out. Not the friendliest of people because he has to close the bar or wait for someone to come watch it. But then again, he didn't have to do it. Show the guy some love if he lets you out. Other than that, the stay was good. Would stay again.

This is one of those tiny little hotels that you so often see just on the edge of town. It's fairly…read morebasic, with showers that veer from needles of ice to fiery rivers of death, but it offers free internet (only in one of its buildings; if you need the wi-fi specify when you book) and a decent buffet breakfast. Some of the rooms are very tiny, but some are flat out enormous and include a little sitting area. Options available for 1-4 people, with the single room starting at EUR65/night. Cheap enough for a hotel in a tourist town! 5 minutes walk from Bismarckplatz if you're a reasonable walker.

I would recommend if you stay here that you empty your baggage outside before bringing it into your home. I would say this hotel was a good value but we also lost hot water in the morning. The manager reluctantly refunded us part of the cost of the breakfast which I didn't eat anyway for lack of sleep.

I recently had one of the worst travel experiences in my…read more40-odd years of traveling. It happend at the Vier Jahreseitzen in Heidelberg. To give the short version of what happened: They gave me a room in a separate annex half a block away, without good shades and overlooking a noisy corner. The internet did not work and there was no way to contact reception except by going outside and walking back the half block to the main building. The staff was completely unhelpful with my internet problem. (I later figured it out: There was no signal for the wireless in my room.) The breakfast was awful. Worst of all: They actually sold my room for the last night of my three day reservation so that I had to scramble to find another hotel. The person at reception, who had assured me my reservation was ok and then, (within a space of three hours) sold my Friday night reservation to someone else, was incredibly rude and abusive and blamed the mixup entirely on me, even though I had carefully double checked earlier with him that the reservation was for all three nights. Fortunately I did succeed, after a great deal of time and stress in finding another room at the nearby Hollander Hof. The contrast between the Hollander Hof and the Vier Jahreszeiten was amazing. In all respects - room, breakfast, behavior of the staff - the Hollander Hof was delightful. I am completely disgusted by the treatment I received at the Vier Jahreseitzen and there is no reason for anyone to stay there given the much nicer Hollander Hof right across the street. If only I had booked the Hollander Hof in the first place!

Walking in felt like stepping back in time. I doubt much has changed about this place in decades, and that's entirely a compliment. We were seated near a window and the ambiance was everything you'd want, cozy, warm, and genuinely inviting. I loved the feel of it. Our server was very kind. Her English was limited, but she was gracious and patient as I attempted to speak German, and was generous enough to tell me I did well. It added to the charm of the whole experience. Now, the food. The potatoes that came with the schnitzel were the best German potatoes I've ever had. The schnitzel itself was delicious, exactly what you'd hope for. The cheese spaetzle was a highlight as well, rich and satisfying. Plan on sharing it. The one miss was the pizza my sister-in-law ordered, which was fine but felt out of place. Stick to the German classics and you won't be disappointed. Would love to return if I ever make it back to Heidelberg.

Our dinner was really good. We did have reservations. We even enjoyed some non-alcoholic beer. We had apple strudel for dessert, which was also really good. We were staying at the hotel, so just had to go upstairs after dinner. For the hotel - the only difficulty was the check in. We weren't sure where to go to check in. So we ended up asking the wait staff. We walked through the restaurant with our luggage to the the check in desk. Our room was comfortable and homey. The door required an old fashioned key to open. You can't beat the location being right by the old bridge.
