The place is huge, have different ethnic selections. Chinese, Caribbean, Indian, Filipino. I bought 2 cheap steaks, Chinese veggies, Indian spices. Croissants made in house were on sale too and they were buttery and tasty compare to other grocery stores. Also bought the Oishi shrimp crackers, love the amount of Asian and south Asian snacks selections. Check out was pretty quick, cashiers speaks good English usually at this location. There is not a lot of Chinese grocery stores south of Eglinton, so this is one of my go to stores for Chinese groceries. read more

I've eaten from the food court at Al Premium (Eglinton) several times and the food was pretty good. In addition to Chinese food, they usually offer lots of choices, including Filipino, South Asian, Sushi, and even Caribbean. I had no problem taking a friend here for lunch. Only one section was open but they had some Caribbean dishes which caught my eye. My friend had a combo with Fried Rice, Noodles, Oxtail, Sweet and Sour Pork, and Spring Rolls. My combo included Chicken Fried Rice, Oxtail, Curry Lamb, and Hot and Sour Soup. The food looked good, especially for only $10.99 each, and we were looking forward to our meal. Now for the bad news. Looks were very deceiving. Although the portions were very generous, the food had no flavour. The meats were cooked nicely tender but the flavours we tasted were very muted and not what we were expecting. Everything was bland, very disappointing. Will I give them another chance? Not sure. Found ourselves in this plaza, decided to pick up groceries here, Fruit and vegetables are hit and miss. Lots of discounted produce. Fish counter was not busy at all. They had fish packed on ice which is always a good sign. Pompano looked bright eyed and fresh. Floor wet. Lots of processed items including Croatian and other European foods. Good Halal butcher, spotlessly clean. The store has an in-house selection of prepared yum-cha. Nor mai gai, foong jow, har gao, siu mai, the usual. The baozi were huge. Who knew there was an amazing Oriental store hidden behind Staples? It's huge (75,000 sq ft) and to call it an Oriental store is actually a disservice. It can well be called an international grocery store. They have items from Serbia, Macedonia, Croatia, Jamaica, Thailand, Mexico, India, Philippines and the list goes on and on... Found some of my favorite things like Mochi ice cream ($5.99 for 6 pieces comes in Green tea, red bean, vanilla and mango), Oishi spicy shrimp chips (2/$1 oh yeah!), Lucky Me Pancit Canton Chilimansi flavor (3/$2), and Arizona Green tea (large can for 99 cents). Also found some really good deals - 99 cent spices, frozen grated cassava for $1.19 16oz, fish balls 2/$3 170g/pkg (it's hard to find small packages good enough for 2 people), even plants - filler vine plants 3/$5! They have a bakery, fresh fruits and vegetables, Halal meat counter, fresh fish section (watch out for the water on the floor), garden, boutique (sells jewelry, hats, scarves...), small section for houseware/cookware, hot food section with a large dining area, and bubble tea station. Lots of aisles filled with a variety of products, well stocked, organized and clean. Staff are helpful. When you go to check out, watch out for the "cashier in training" sign and head for the many other open registers. I've read on their site that "Every year, the stores host important events such as Chinese New Year, Diwali, Easter, Orthodox Easter events, for customers to experience and to appreciate each other's cultures and customs." I can spend an afternoon just browsing around here.. Al Premium is the newest and biggest supermarket opens by Orient Mart, which has 2 other locations. Everything is super sized here! Spacious aisles, high ceiling, dim lighting and huge selections of everything around the world!! For their hot table, aside from the usual Chinese dishes they even have a separate area for Indian food prepared by Indian cooks!! There is even a different area where you can get Halal meat. Seafood area is clean and smell fresh, and hope it will stay the same! So many checkout lanes.. I don't even need to wait in line at all on their Opening Day! Ample Parking.... And TTC accessible! Opens daily from 8 am to 12 am! Now I need one up in Markham!! read more

The super market is huge! I believe there are about 18 cashier stations (Just incase it gets really busy) they have the right amount of cashiers open depending on how busy it is. As I was lining up, the cashier was soooo slow (and kept checking food prices, therefore holding up the line, so I switched to a faster lane and this girl was quick! And knew all the codes!) So it's a hit or miss depending on the cashier you got. The food court is an OK size, so we decided to try a bit of each so to see the taste, there's lots of cooked food selection from Chinese, Indian to Mediterranean. We tried something from each station. The Chinese food was OK and was packed; she stuffed it so full that it was hard to close to lid. The Indian food was horrible, the butter chicken curry was not good, and they didn't have naan, so ok sure we'll have the balsamic rice, it was HARD and DRY. And than the Mediterranean section we tried some appetizers etc, it was all dried and overcooked stuff. The freshly made bubble tea, tasted horrible. SELECTION: There's a lot to choose from if buying groceries, lots of exotic fruits, we even got some fresh, soursop, jackfruit and mangosteen. But it's nothing I can't find at T&T. The store reminds me of a Sobey's for some reason but that's where the comparison ends. East vs East (Asian and Indian) is a battle done well here! An Asian grocery store that is clean, well stocked and well laid out is definitely a plus. From Chinese to Japanese to Indian to Filipino ingredients you only have to look under one roof! And their prices are much better than the Superstore. There is a produce section along with a bakery section and a takeout section. Roasted chicken for $8! All the aisles are clearly labeled and the shelves are so neat that you are never guessing the price of something. If you are making a dish that requires an ingredient you are not sure your regular supermarket will carry well check here b/c there's a good chance it will be stocked here. After all that's where I found the oh so elusive horny goat weed tea! (Joking on the part that i was looking for this item but not joking I stumbled across this!) I would imagine this place gets busy on weekends so do yourself a favour and go on a weeknight. read more

One of my go-to places to find more unique Asian and Filipino goods. This store is well organized and clean. Their meat counter is also clean and well stocked but is managed by grumpy workers who barely speak English and are often times rude. Their hot food counter is the complete opposite, the ladies there tend to be nice and always offer samples and even suggest the good items to buy. They also have a bakery that bakes pastries and Chinese buns. Go there in the morning if you want ant the fresh stuff though as they sell out fairly quickly. Typical long lineups on weekends but great on weekdays if you can manage to get here as traffic around the area is crazy. Despite being located right next door to a Costco, parking is plentiful and well maintained. read more

It's like East meets Middle East meets west... Finally got a chance to pop in this monsterous place. This place is like the International version of a Super Store, or megalo-market. It's bigger than most T&Ts, cleaner than your average Asian market, and better pricing than your Weston owned places. It was quite crowded on a Saturday afternoon, so I really just managed to get in and out. Al Premium also offers an Asian and Indian take out section. I was planning on making dinner, but had to give this a shot and tried some Chicken Briyani and Lamb Vindalo with some Naan to go. Not quite restaurant quality, but not bad for supermarket take-out. I'm really glad to know that there are now viable alternatives to your Big 3 type markets. With Al Premium, Sunny's and Winn there is now some massive competition for my grocery dollars. read more

I came here thanks to a fellow yelper telling me about the grand opening last week. Being a home cook I was really looking forward to this trip. Getting here is not particularly straight forward from downtown (either by car or public transport) though what I saw here may make it worth your while to come up all the way here if you want to So here goes Initial impression a clean open and bright space and the interestingly the interior color scheme reminds me of Micheal Angelos Super Market. This store has taken a shot gun approach and tries to cover pretty a lot of ethnic cuisines (an approach that was unsuccessful IMO when the Denison Super Market tried it) The sub continent region is covered well with a halal meat counter kept separate from the other meat cuts (looks like they did their research) and an aisle dedicated to spice mixes and other goods from that region. The frozen food and dry goods also covers that area well. The main attraction is the cuisine from China and it is covered very well IMO. I am by no means an expert but I saw some items I have not seen elsewhere but a connoisseur is sure appreciate the effort that went in to procuring these items. Thai Food Selection is decent and I even found the now hard to locate Tom Yum Soup Can from Aroy D (one of the preferred make of Thai canned goods IMO) Now for the regions that could have been covered better: Japanese aisle is lacking IMO and even T&T covers that region better. Indonesian and Malay spice selection was decent though. So far so good now for the bad part The Seafood area had water on the floor and in fact there was so much water I felt like wearing rubber boots (Tsukiji Market Style in Tokyo :) The prices were good . The prices for shell fish were decent and some of the fish looked beautiful. One thing that alarmed me were the discounted fresh lobster. OK I get it many big super markets sell them on ice but these were just piled on top of the other and lobster that is not cooled properly can go bad real fast. I did look at the food court as well and tried the hot and sour soup to help with the weather. It was OK just like any neighborhood greasy restaurant would serve. There is quite a selection here and it can be daunting sometimes to choose what to order as all sort of cuisines are represented here as well. There doesn't seem to be a flow of things. Some people were lining up some were just walking up and ordering. The staff needs training , it was hard to locate them and were not helpful when approached. They were only accepting cash or debit when I was there (though someone who tried this store said they do take VISA and MC) They also had a lot of promo items for the weekend. IMO its a decent addition to this area and it will do well as I don't think they have alternate that can compete with them by sheer size and selection. 3.5 Stars read more

I started getting the grocery flyer from Al Premium Food Mart shortly after moving back to Scarborough, and eventually went over to give it a try because they seemed to have good sales on both everyday items and on their wide variety of Asian (both east and south) goods. At this point, I go once maybe twice a month, as a supplement to my weekly grocery shopping. In general, I do not find their sales as good as they were a couple years ago, but they still have a very broad selection of food and non-food items (cleaning supplies and kitchenware) at good prices. I've never really needed assistance with shopping, but the cashiers are usually pretty quick, some are friendly some not but no one has been rude. They stock most of the usual items that all supermarkets have, with large sections of boxed cereals, pop and juices, condiments, spices, fruits and vegetables, meats and fish. In addition, they have lots of Asian alternatives to the above, far more than any of the traditional supermarkets have in their international sections: many different kinds of packaged spices, half an aisle of pickled vegetables and bottled fruits, several tub freezers of seafood, all kinds of different cuts of beef / chicken / pork including small choices pre-packaged, a huge fruit / vegetable section with multiple varieties of everything. Some specific items that I go for are chess cookies (a stiff pastry filled with nuts or bean paste), a Filipino egg bread, different types of pickled vegetables, and bulk items like nuts and dried fruit, as well as whatever may be on special. Overall, Al Premium serves me well as a supplemental grocery store, or for specific harder-to-find goods. Prices are comparable to the same items elsewhere. read more

One star is one to many. Got sushi and there was a hair in it. Told the manger that he needs to improve on their QA as many of my colleagues had bad food experiences and I thought maybe their experiences was a one off. Oh no its a constant problem there. My colleague got jerk chicken with rice and peas, and for free he got cockroach in his rice!!! The only decent thing here is the variety of dried or packaged goods. Some produce items are priced lower then other stores. Toronto public health was called in for an inspection which I'm sure isn't the first time. The manager offered no resolution for the cockroach in the rice, simply saying they rent out the space and its up to the vendors to be clean. read more

Much like Chinese restaurants in the past ten years, Chinese supermarkets appear to be making the change from cheap and dirty to somewhat-less-cheap and clean. It's a good middle between the incredibly cheap but kind of filthy Asian market and the cleaner but pricier Canadian market. I live firmly in this niche. This place has everything you might want: a good selection of Asian and Canadian produce, including organic options(!), a fresh seafood section, Halal and non-Halal meat counters, a Chinese bakery, takeout section and general grocery section which had an organic aisle featuring a $10 bag of quinoa. I purchased some meat from the Halal section, since I'm kind of disturbed by the conventional meat industry right now. The guy gave me some recommendations based on freshness, which was very nice. I was able to get most everything on my list at a decent price (No Frills level pricing) except for quinoa (again, $10?!). This is particularly useful for me since I tend to split up my shopping between No Frills and Asian markets in order to get the best bang for my buck. This place is pretty close to my parents' and it's open to midnight, which means that they'll definitely be seeing me again. read more

The most exciting thing in grocery retailing in a long time. After the acquistion of T&T by Loblaws, its lost its price competitiveness, quality, and authenticity. Al Premium is the perfect blend of Asian, East Asian, Middle-Eastern catered grocery store. Its the United Nations of Grocery stores if you're a cook and enjoy the various tastes of the world. Its clean, open, bright, and offers pretty much any type of food for any discerning palatte on a reasonable budget. There is a plethora of cooked food and bake goods options availble which taste authentic (not your fast food counter stuff), seafood/meats and produce fresh, and the service for an "Asian-type" grocer is not that bad, which is above and beyond in Asian standards. I would say "Al premium" should be called "nothing premium." Some of their fruits and veggies are c grade produce. The stuff that farmers sell to loblaws and stores like real Canadian superstore is A grade. No frills and food basics get B grade. The rest of the imperfect produce C to F grade goes to al premium. There are many times where you see tomatoes with all these spots on them or green peppers that are soft and rubbery. No where close to fresh vegetables... The price though is cheap. You can't expect fresh produce for expensive food. But I would rank al premium food a tier below food basics and no frills. Food court is the main attraction but with all Chinese owners that love to cut costs you know the food your eating is expired or very close to expired produce and meat. read more

Their meat section is got to be the most extensive i've seen and has some excellent looking cuts of meat/poultry... Huge selection of ethnic foods of which they specialize in and actually do. So I went here recently with my parents and husband. My parents have been raving about this place since they first discovered it a few months ago. They told me it's like T&T but bigger and better. When we first got there, we headed to the food court for something to eat. The food court is similar to T&T except that it has not just Chinese food, but other cuisine as well. They had Indian food, a shawarma station, and some North American food as well. The prices were dirt cheap. We got a huge container of General Tao's Chicken for $3.99. And an equally huge container of Veal Biriyani for $3.99. My husband wanted to try the beef pie (it was like a chicken pot pie, but beef and not in an aluminium pie container) ($2.99). It was an individual serving size. We also got some Har Gow - 4 for $1.99. I got a strawberry sago drink ($1.59) and my mom got the taro one. The General Tao's Chicken was delicious. Mostly white breast meat, not too much batter. Hot and cripsy. Mostly sweet, with a bit of tang. Not spicy at all though. The Veal Biriyani was mostly rice, not too much veal. And the little veal that it contained was really fatty and had tendons and other sinewy bits. There was also pieces of bone. I was not a fan. The rice itself was nicely spiced and had a spicy kick to it, which I enjoyed, but this did not make up for the aforementioned disappointment. The Har Gow was great. Just like at any respectable dim sum restaurant. The beef pie was mostly crust and not enough pie, however my husband said that overall he enjoyed it. The sago drinks were good. They are a little bit like bubble tea except the bubbles are made of tiny tapioca beads so they are really soft and translucent and not chewy and dark like traditional bubble tea. They also have some pieces of gelatin in it. Mine tasted like strawberry milk with tapioca and gelatin pieces. The grocery store itself is very large. Lots of spaces in the aisles. They have a huge variety of ethnic foods. Prices are really good for some items and about average for others. The bulk section looked a little dirty, as people took stuff and then changed their minds and just left the bagged bulk foods in the bulk food area. I'm not sure what they do with that food at the end of the day, whether they throw it out, keep it bagged and sell it at a discount, or dump it back into the bulk containers to sell the following day. The bulk area looked much messier than everywhere else. The bakery area is also a bit messy. They have large trays of baked goods stacked on top of each other and you can go and bag your own baked goods. I'm sure when they first bring everything out it looks good, but by the evening, things are picked over and it looks messy and unhygienic and people could have dropped items on the floor and then just put them back on the trays. The washrooms are also filthy. Do not go to the washrooms unless you really have to. With the exception of these 3 areas, the rest of the store looks very clean and orderly. The contrast is quite remarkable. They need to clean up their act with the bulk section, the bakery and the washrooms. I don't know why they let these places get so bad while the rest of the store is so much nicer. Parking is plentiful, and seating in the food court area is ample. read more

Typical asian fusion supermarket where india meets china and everything in between. This place is HUUUGE and their selection is better than Sunny's or some of the newer contenders in this space. The place is clean, and well stocked for the most part. The food court isn't too great, so I would suggest people avoid it. I made sushi a few months ago, and went to j-town to get the items needed. I blew over $40, the same bill would have been $24 if I purchased all the items at AlPremium. The price difference on wasabi powder alone was $1.25 per tin. Needless to say there is definitely value on some items so keep your eyes open for good deals. Sunny's is actually more competitive on some items but their selection is about 2/3 of what AlPremium has to offer. read more

We went there to buy, among other things, six pack Vitasoy Drinks, they did not taste like the real thing. They appeared to have been diluted with water? Also bought a pack of vegetarian spring rolls, they were bad and had to be thrown out. We do not think we would shop there again. read more

This grocery store is pretty big and can be quite overwhelming if you are someone like me and are not a connoisseur when it comes to various ethnic foods and products. If you do choose to come here to do a shop, I would definitely recommend bringing someone along who is more knowledge about ethnic fare if you are not. However, they did carry a variety of what they call "Western" products, although the product range is likely not as extensive as what you would find in a Loblaws or Walmart Supercentre. I did appreciate their food court area and I liked how the different warms foods were separated by ethnicity. I would have liked to have seen more prepared meals that you could take to go or warm up at home. For example, they did not have a lot of sushi available when I went. They have some good prices, but I would not say their deals are incredible or worth the drive if you're coming from downtown. The store is clean and bright and the service is friendly and helpful. They do not accept American Express, but they didn't charge me five cents for plastic bags! (I usually bring my own bags!) read more

The food court has a variety of foods (Indian, middle eastern, Vietnamese, chinese) to choose from and the seating area is generally clean and pleasant. Prices aren't as rock bottom as other asian supermarkets but are still cheaper than most Canadian chain grocery stores like loblaws. This review is for the food court. My boyfriend and I happened to be there on a Sunday and we were really hungover and needed food-- Pronto! I had read some reviews about the skeevy food court, but reasoned that it couldn't be that bad. We were wrong. Opting for Indian Food we had the Aloo Ghobi, Chicken Curry and two samosas. First of all, they forgot to give us the samosas (which were the only edible thing out of the lot) so we had to go back and get them with a massive lineup behind us. The curry was disgustingly bland. I think they poured old tomato sauce and milk on the rubbery chicken. My Aloo Ghobi was swimming in oil and tasted like under seasoned potato and cauliflower in vegetable oil. The plain rice had more flavour than either of the curries. Hands down the absolute WORST Indian food I've ever eaten! A complete waste of calories. read more

Poor customer service. Cashier yelled at me 5 times. I respectfully explained that I didn't made that mistake and another customer had mixed her items with mines. Yelled at me again saying that I am wrong and it's my fault. Starts laughing at me And continue to yell me And saying horrible things at me. I have been to this location for many years, and this is the first time I experience such rudeness. I highly recommend no one to come here. I have worked in retail and have a certificate in customer service. Yelling at a customer and laughing or making fun of them is not how customer service works. This is one of the oddest supermarkets I've ever been to. It's massive and you could essentially spend all day in there. The meat was very inexpensive, but for some reason, and I couldn't tell you why, the quality of it left a lot to be desired. The pre-made food was pretty decent and the sushi was very inexpensive which I liked, but at the end my biggest issue was that you couldn't find standard north american grocery store staples like a normal loaf of sliced bread which isn't some sort of sweet bread, or most standard condiments. read more

We have been shopping here since the initial opening and week by week it's gone down hill. First of all the place needs a good cleaning, when they first opened it was shiny and brand new, i don't think the floors, glass on freezer section, public washrooms, shelves all around and the butcher areas have seen a broom or disinfectant since then. Come on guys it's a grocery store clean it up. The prices are now consistent with any low cost grocery like no frills or food basics. The customer service is atrocious. I asked at the butcher department for some help with getting some chicken (told me no one could help till 9am) then why do you open at 8am. The deli which used to be so inviting doesn't have anyone there till 10am and if you look at the expiry dates on the meats most are nearing the end of shelve life. The lack of english of the floor staff is not good, even the manager hasn't a grasp on simple request. Mind you the cashier are friendly and efficient, they should put some of them in customer service. The halal butcher is just plain rude, i went to get some ground beef from that section and he pointed towards the other butcher area noting that his meat was halal, duh, so what. I buy kosher and halal meat all the time if it's on sale. When I asked him if there was a problem with me buying halal meat he kinda shrugged his shoulders in disgust. The hot kitchen area used to be fantastic. I think that part is brokered out, the chinese bbq is still great, but the rest take a pass, they make the food around 11am and push it all day. The tandori oven chef is always missing in action. I have noticed a drastic decline in customers on each shopping trip, so it's not only me.
