There are plenty of Mexican restaurants around, but Dolores has consistently stood out to me for the quality and care that goes into the food. I've brought other people here as well, and the reaction is usually the same: everyone leaves happy and already talking about what they want to try the next time. The food is exceptional. Everything I've had has tasted fresh, arrived hot, and had the kind of flavor that makes it clear the kitchen isn't cutting corners. There's a nice balance to the menu, with enough variety that I don't feel like I'm ordering the same thing every time, even though there are a few favorites I inevitably gravitate back toward. What I particularly appreciate is the consistency. I've been here enough times that I have a reasonable idea of what to expect, and Dolores has managed to deliver that quality visit after visit. I do have to acknowledge the elephant in the room: prices have gone up significantly recently. That's hard to ignore, and I think it's fair to mention in a review. Eating out has gotten more expensive pretty much everywhere, but the increase here is noticeable. That said, the quality of the food has remained consistent, and for me, that keeps Dolores firmly in the five-star category. I'd much rather pay a little more for food that I genuinely enjoy than pay less for something forgettable. The service has also been very good in my experience. The wait staff is friendly, helpful, and attentive without making the meal feel rushed. Service tends to move along fairly quickly, which I appreciate, particularly when the restaurant is busy. The dining room is clean and comfortable, and the bar is another highlight. They make some excellent drinks, and it's a good place to sit and enjoy one while taking in the atmosphere. If you're planning on going, I'd recommend making a reservation or getting there early. Dolores can fill up, and it's easy to understand why. Parking is probably the biggest inconvenience, since you're dealing with street parking rather than a dedicated lot. In Providence, that's hardly unique, but it is something to keep in mind if you're driving. Despite those minor inconveniences and the recent price increases, Dolores remains one of my favorite places for Mexican food in Providence. The food is consistently fresh and flavorful, the service is friendly, the drinks are excellent, and the overall experience is one that I continue to enjoy. I've brought different people here over the years, and I've yet to have someone leave disappointed. Five stars from me. Dolores has earned its place in my Providence restaurant rotation, and I'll keep coming back as long as they continue doing what they've been doing. The menu is small and yet there's always plenty of yummy things to try when I go, even as a picky eater. There are multiple vegetarian and even a vegan option or two. I always have to get the guac when I come here - it's the perfect amount of creaminess without too much onion. Their red salsa is a great slightly chunky - slightly juicy texture and has a bit of a kick. The vegan burrito bowl is my go-to as a vegetarian, and the street corn side as an app is elite! It is a little spicier these days since the recipe was updated from on the cob to off the cob (I much prefer off for ease of eating and sharing!) The Coconut Cartel margarita was creamy and smooth and went down *quick* haha. Others in my party loved the spicy Margarito, although they were out of the main spicy tequila but the servers offered substitute recommendations. I came with a very large work group today, and the servers were so patient and flexible when we asked for modifications from the menu. I even was able to order the queso dip with the chorizo on the side (yummy but very thick cheese dip!), and they were very attentive of my colleague's mushroom allergy and made sure she got dedicated dishes, even when we were all sharing apps. The churro donuts seem to have changed recipe and got mixed reviews - some thought they were dry, another says she Uber Eats just those regularly Sitting outside in the summer on the patio is nice. Tasty, interesting dishes with modern urban twists on Mexican recipes. Truly the only slight downside is that sometimes parking can be tricky in this area, but you can always find free street parking, it may just take you a little bit. Equal parts good for girls night and good for date night. The not so great: I got flautas once and they fell flauta (haha). Also, it's sometimes a one man show so service can be slow especially if you need refills so be sure to order multiple drinks at a time, or better yet a pitcher.
