It's critical to arrive early if you intend to order food. The QR code system is confusing and distracting / hard to figure out once the previews start. Nice that they have the dine in option but the food is definitely overpriced for what it is! Be prepared for that. The new ordering, checking out with QR code is distracting and had me missing parts of the movie. No place for gift cards so I had requested service at the same time I put in our order, it still wouldn't let me check out without putting my credit card anyway. The server wrote down my 3 gift cards and said I need to enter my credit card in the system and she would apply the gift cards after I closed the tab. I wasn't sure when I was able to close the tab, there was no option to. I also heard that if you don't close it by the end, they charge you another $5. So had to keep checking my phone to see if there was a link to close it. Finally after the timer was up to order food, the option to close the tab popped up. During the movie I received a notification that my card was charged. The girl had told me it wouldn't be charged it would be applied to the gift cards. Went to the front to get my balance on the gift card I had left and come to find out they applied my gift cards to another table. The manager figured it out and gave me my balance owed back on a new gift card. I walked out the door and then turned back around to find out about my credit card charged, I wanted a receipt for the refund on my cc. Someone in front of me was getting comped 4 movie tickets for their troubles. The manager could not give me a receipt for my credit card and said I needed to just wait 5-7 days. Not sure why when there $5 close out fee also showed on my credit card and showed up right away as refunded. I missed many parts of the movie and the fun of going to the movies. We came to watch In The Grey and it was one of the smaller theaters I have been in. The place was clean, parking was easy, and the staff was nice. It was our first time dining here and the food was actually way better than I expected. The Force Fold ($14): This is on the Mandalorian and Grogu special food menu. It is a green quesadilla with roasted chicken breast, smoked bacon, cheese, chipotle aioli, cotija, and green onions. It was really good but the cheese to meat ratio was a bit off. Kids Galactic Pistachio Shake ($6): Also from the Mandalorian and Grogu special menu. It is a small shake made with pistachio syrup, vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, wafer, and whipped cream. It was very sweet and tasted more like a chocolate shake than pistachio. There were also a lot of wafer pieces in it. Fried Pickles ($12): Thick slices of breaded pickles that were pretty good. They came with vegan ranch, comeback, spicy honey thyme, and orange gochujang sauces. Needless to say we did not need or finish all four sauces. Carnivore Pizza ($20.65): My husband added jalapeños, crushed red peppers, basil, and mushroom and substituted vegan cheese. We really enjoy coming here and honestly consider the pre show film roll part of the movie experience itself, so we usually arrive early to watch it. The new seating is a huge improvement too. The recliners are comfortable, and the tables work well for food and drinks. The online ordering system is also nice because it makes it easy to order exactly what you want, though I do wish there were a few more customization options. Small things like extra ice in a drink, light queso on the fries, or swapping sauces on sandwiches and wraps would go a long way. The fries themselves were great, but the queso made them soggy pretty quickly. I understand keeping the menu streamlined for the kitchen, but at these prices, a little more flexibility would be appreciated. The food overall was good. I was disappointed to learn the cauliflower dish has heat built into the dredge because I had really liked it before, but the wrap I tried this visit was very good. I also miss the rotating special dishes they used to offer since those were always fun to try. The movie experience itself was excellent. Picture and sound quality were great, seating was comfortable, and the overall atmosphere was enjoyable. One thing worth mentioning is that we often debate between coming here or going to Cinemark. Cinemark's membership program is honestly hard to beat because it includes tickets and concession discounts, and we've been members for years. We do not live close enough to really benefit from this theater's subscription program, otherwise we would probably join because we genuinely enjoy the experience here. I've checked out all of their competitors, and none of them have the variety of films that Alamo offers and their movie pass benefits are poor comparisons to what Alamo offers you. Nowhere else can you find Terror Tuesday or Weird Wednesday, or thematic movie series. These things are uniquely Alamo. These things, while I'm sure they must be nationwide, are very much Austin. The movie was good, which is why I gave it two stars. However, this was my first time here, and last. My phone was not fully charged, and you have to order using a QR code. They also say you can't be on your phone, but ordering is phone dependent. Then there is no Apple Pay quick option, so I had to pull out my card and put the numbers in, while unable to see in the dark. The seats don't go far back so my back hurt the entire time. I took my two daughters (14) and (10) , and it was around 52.00 for tickets and 65.00 for food, 3 kids meals and two kids size shakes. So I will not be back. The popcorn tastes different - kernels and clarified butter - not in a good way. Got the loaded fries tonight and the sour cream was off - smelled and tasted like sour milk and was runny. I tried a taste of the new beer cheese separately and it was fine. I told the server and she said it wasn't the sour cream, but the beer cheese and it's supposed to smell sour/rancid. Nope. I feel like I have lost a dear old friend. No paper, no pens, no physical menu to peruse while you enjoy the cool pre show footage. The new mobile ordering system is an absolutely terrible idea! Our family has been going to this Alamo since it opened, but no more. So much of their menu items are gone, it takes forever to attempt to customize an order, and better yet their WiFi does not work!!! Oh and btw you must agree to an 18% gratuity, and they try to hit you up for more of a tip when you close out your check. I should be getting the tip since I took my own order! It is impossible to order a refill of a drink, and they installed those lights in your tray table (which are terribly annoying anyway) and now you can only use your phone. They should hire robots to deliver the food. No one even check our tickets! No lovely greeting or human interaction like the old days. One last note, I ordered a burger on a gluten free bun. My order was delivered WITHOUT the top bun!!!! The girl was yelling at me to try and explain that it fell off, and she would bring me the missing top bun. I waited AT LEAST 10 minutes for that top bun. While everything turned to ice... why on gods green earth would someone not turn around and get the bun BEFORE delivering the order?!?!? The lobby is cool as always, I only came by as I bought a ticket for the wrong date on a movie awhile back and needed to refund it as I didn't know when I could make it. The gentleman helping me was great, friendly and fast, the two things I would ask to change it would be that you can refund online even if your not a loyalty member and if they refuse put in the section that you have to go in person then that you need the card you put in on. They can't see or look it up which should also be fixed. But it was pretty painless besides. I had to try 2 or 3 cards but we got the refund. The biggest issue I had was you can buy online as not a member of their club but you can't refund unless you join the cult. read more

Been to this alamo drafthouse location a many times and although the space and staff have come and gone, the service has always been consistent. The food on the menu has slowly declined but I feel that's a corporate move of cost and convenience so meh - paired with the cost of what's actually going to be on the menu, I just don't really have options of what we'd want to order, although they're safe choices. I get it. The staff has always been pleasant and if you can order tickets in person, you save on online service fees added. We also used to be their victory members for seeing movies on their membership, but these days it's a rare treat for us to pop into a movie theater. Wow this place has become a dump. Movie started and they had never bothered to adjust the curtains on sides so movie was partially showing on curtains. Went out to request that they fix and no one was in site for 5 minutes. When someone finally came out they fixed. Next we got bottomless popcorn through the app. When my kid pushed the button for refill no one could find the order so spent another 5 minutes looking for proof we had purchased it. So dumb. Will be hitting the Cineopolis from now on...if this place survives a year with this format I'll be amazed. read more

I frequent this Alamo a lot because of proximity and often come on Tuesdays for their all-day matinee pricing. I've enjoyed their trivia night at the bar but of all the Alamos it's the least Alamo-y Alamo I've been to. The chairs also don't recline but they're remodeling to include those so that should be remedied soon. All of the theaters are on the smaller side which sounds like a good thing but I've had experiences where people who think they're whispering (or not) just carries, likewise when people check their phones it's like a Roman candle goes off. There was one particular showing that I attended where it was an easy and the server was there to see it but said nothing. When I brought it up in an after visit survey, the response I got from management was pretty tepid and non-apologetic. I just got to "enjoy" the new QR scan ordering system for the first time. And I won't be back. Here's why: Let's start with the irony of Alamo telling customers to keep phones dark and silent, then telling them to order food and report issues with their phones - then texting order updates to guest's phones. It was incredibly distracting with surrounding guests struggling to use this broken system through the movie. No longer can you interact with a human to order food. Food orders are driven by an online menu, which is not intuitive or easy to navigate, and does not allow sufficient customization. A guest next to me asked for a paper menu because she couldn't use the online menu. Her request was denied. Food delivery, by about half dozen people at my count, was problematic at best. We were delivered popcorn we didn't order. And when our actual food did begin to arrive, it was delivered to the wrong person consistently and came out in nonsense order. My first item delivered was a side of ketchup. Drinks didn't arrive for another 15 minutes. Food for my guests arrived well before mine. And my (hot) food was cold. Ten minutes into the actual movie, they realized they had never verified our tickets. And wanted to do that during tv movie - requiring opening the app. The new food trays swivel, which is nice. But when they filled up, nobody took away the empty containers. So we had to put food dishes in our lap or stack them precariously while trying to eat. This "new and improved" experience was not well thought out or well executed. And for the convenience of trying this failed experiment, Alamo kindly adds a mandatory 16% service fee and then "auto adds" another 5% unless you edit the bill - a fact that you're notified of (ironically) by text. read more

Cellphone use is now encouraged (you can't get food without using your phone during the movie, you can't get staff help without requesting help using your phone, you cannot pay without using your phone). Naturally, because of all these changes by management and leadership, people now use their phones during the movie for long periods of time. And they have almost no staff available. Food takes longer to receive. But they still charge an automatic waiter tip even though you have to put in the order yourself, you enter your payment info yourself, and everything takes longer. And they charge an additional automatic extra fee if you forget to close your tab. On top of that the webpage has a lot of issues. Right after the movie me and about 8 other people waited about 20min at the front desk (no staff on sight, extremely understaffed) to get help with closing out tabs because of these issues. But, we were still charged the extra fee regardless. Good luck if you have a coupon or reward you want to use. It'll take another 10min to enter it, that is even if you figure out how to do it in the first place with the non-intuitive interface and the website issues. Alamo went from one of the best theaters to perhaps the worst one in a matter of days. They are still charging premium prices but for a bad experience now. You're way better off going to an AMC or other theater with less hassles. Or just watching something at home. And i have already sent my feedback (more than once) to the email that they all just seem to be copy/pasting (comments.lakeline@drafthouse.com) for all the negative reviews. Do not recommend this one nor any other Alamo Drafthouse theater since they are all adopting these cheap and anti-customer changes. read more

This theater has prided itself from the inception on removing phones from the movie experience, yet now everyone is forced to have their phones out for half the movie so they can order! The ability to customize or ask for things on the side, or even extra napkins, is removed. Servers somehow take longer and miss items since this app became mandatory. Awesome first timer here. I enjoyed my first experience at this Drafthouse Cinema. Greeted once inside, clean establishment including the restroom. My personal waiter throughout the movie was prompt she gave excellent service. The food was delicious I ordered the buffalo wings which came with ranch and celery. For the drink I had a Long Island. This was first time viewing a movie since they changed to recliners. I can't say that I'm a fan. I have long legs, and the waitstaff ran into my feet 3 times. The popcorn machine was broken, so that was disappointing. I did enjoy the fried pickles though. Crispy breading and very flavorful ranch. I love how crisp the movie is in the HDR screens, and I loved the pre-show recap as well as the shorts from previous Wizard of Oz movies. I was so excited to show my wife the Alamo Drafthouse which has been the premier movie going experience my entire life. You can imagine my disappointment when it was worse than cinemark these days. The food was abysmal, the "waiter" didn't say a word just brought out food we ordered in their terrible ordering system. No refills, no check ins and worst of all, automatic 18% tip probably because they know the service is so awful they have to make sure the staff gets tip. There was an elderly couple nearby who couldn't figure out the QR system and frankly I don't blame them. But now halfway through the movie I have to hear staff explain it to them, listen to their questions and manually take their order. During the actual movie. The Alamo used to be lively, popping with flair, busy and delicious. Now it's not half that. I will never go back to the Alamo. The chairs don't even recline anymore, and if I remember correctly they were one of the first to do that. Reading the other reviews, no one cares. Not a manager, not the owner. All they ask for is to email them probably to add to a growing list of "don't bother". Just another thing to add to the list of terribleness overtaking the world. Shame. read more

Been here twice over the past week, my wife and I saw a movie last weekend, then took my family of 5 to watch the Mandalorian last night. For background, we go to other movie house eateries a lot (Flix, Ipic, etc.), so I know good service when we get it. We hadn't tried Alamo in probably 8 years, it looked like their menu had changed, so we thought why not try them again? Big mistake! The service staff walked around aimlessly trying to find the seats where the food and drinks go. We were interrupted multiple times during the movie and asked if we ordered said item, which we did not. Service is slow, I had to remind staff about items we still hadn't received (multiple times). When you submit a group food order, you'd expect that the entire group would get served relatively around the same time. Not at Alamo, my daughter sat for 20+ min while the rest of us enjoyed (and finished) our appetizers. Food quality was decent, cocktails are mid, chairs and climate are comfortable. The movie theater whose national brand involved not using phones now REQUIRES the use of phones to order anything. Coinciding with this change, they have absolutely gutted their staff. Twice now I've gone to see a movie here, decided not to order anything because the whole experience is just ridiculous now, and as a result not one single staff member ever interacted with us the whole time we were there. Did we really even need to buy tickets? It sure didn't seem like it. There's no staff left up front and no staff left in the theater either. Alamo Drafthouse has somehow found a way to eliminate their incredibly loyal fanbase, which would never even have considered a different movie theater up until this year. read more

I love Alamo Drafthouse and was kinda surprised to see non reclining seats. Didn't know they had theaters without them. Not to mention this one had the tables really for two to share. No individual table per person. The service and quality of the movie and food options were just as expected. I ordered the Baked Pretzel and Cauliflower bites. The pretzel was nice and hot! I came to see the Mario movie on the afternoon of 4/4. I placed an order for a soda, a beer, and popcorn 10 minutes before the previews started. It took until the previews were over some 20 minutes later before the popcorn came out - no drinks. I then ordered a beer for my husband. About 20 minutes later still no drinks and I had to go into the online system and send a message about missing items. About 10 minutes later the soda came out - no beers. I waited about 15 more minutes and sent another message about a missing item. Still nothing, 10-15 minutes later I sent yet another missing item message. Then my beer finally came out over an hour after I first placed the order. I told the server that it had been a hour and we were still waiting on another beer. He didn't seem to care. Now, 10 minutes later my husband's beer came out. By this time the movie was more than halfway over. When the text for the bill came, I refused to give any tip above the already 18% service fee to staff who didn't actually provide any service. They didn't even have enough staff to check our tickets so anyone could've just walked in and seen the movie for free. This is absolutely unacceptable that it took over an hour to get drinks. It's not like they have to cook anything! It seems obvious that with the move to the new system they have reduced staff and they just can't keep up. With movie theaters competing with home theaters you'd think they'd want to prioritize service. I've been going to Alamo for over 15 years, 20+ movies a year. Was a favorite. I've no issue with the 18% mandatory tip. However, now that the entire place is self service with the exception of a food runner, it seems high. The food selection is going downhill, and the hassle of logging into their wifi to wade through their online site for ordering when you aren't supposed to have your phone out is ironic. More irony when they send you a text to close your bill (but your phone is silenced) and they hit you with a 5% fee if you don't close it yourself before the end of the show. Went to see Deadpool x Wolverine on a Tuesday night (discounted Tuesdays!!) and Lakeline was the only Alamo theater that had it playing at a time that worked for me so I decided to give it a shot. The seats are not the comfiest-- unlike the seats at the Mueller Alamo, you cannot recline in the seat and you share a table with the person next to you. The showing time I booked the ticket for was at 7:20PM and unfortunately it seemed like there was only one server available that night. I waited a long time before anyone came to check in on me. The people in front of me who came after me, got serviced before I did as well. The food was still as good as I remembered! I ordered the Carnivore Pizza and the Breakfast Club. I placed my order on the order card and requested for my Breakfast club to be cut in half and they fulfilled my request when they took out my order. Went to see the Elvis movie at Lakeline, and as someone who has been a loyal Alamo customer since 1997 it was a thoroughly demoralizing experience. We sat down in the theater and no one greeted us to check to see if we were in the right seats and maybe chat about the movie while taking our order. Spent most of the trailers stressfully trying to figure out the app. Tried to enjoy the movie while ignoring the phones lights popping around us. Spent the credits trying to close our tab before giving up. Whole thing just felt depressing and impersonal. I used to say one of the things I still liked about Austin was seeing movies at the Alamo, but I guess we'll just watch movies at home now. Not sure how you think you can enforce a "no texting or scrolling" policy alongside "but also pull out you phone only to order" policy, but we all know where this is going. Loyal customers like us who want to enjoy a movie free of distractions flee, while you attract a new customer base who figures "well as long as I have my phone out to order, I might as well scroll Instagram for a bit". read more

I have long been a huge fan of the Alamo Drafthouse- in large part due to their strict no phones during the movie policy. Unfortunately, with their new phone-only ordering policy, the last movie I saw I was distracted by phone screens lighting up through out the movie. The lady in front of my was not very tech savvy, and spent several minutes struggling to scan the QR code with her phone on full brightness during a pivotal scene. There are many things I still love about this cinema- the cleanliness, the professionalism of the staff, the specialty cocktails, ect- however, this is a huge deal breaker for me. I hope they adjust their policy soon to mimic other cinemas that are blending the pencil/ paper method and the phone method- there are several cinemas that allow phone ordering up until the movie starts and then switch to paper only. I understand it's probably much more work for the staff- but the reason I've been going to this cinema was BECAUSE I was willing to pay extra for a strict no-phones rule to be enforced. I'm giving it three stars because the rest of the experience was still quite wonderful- but I won't be back unless the policy changes- it ruined the movie! read more

This place is OK if you wanna pay $17 for a 10 inch personal pizza and $13 per cocktail. Aside from overpaying, overall it's really not that bad. Our waitress was very nice, and was fairly quick most of the time or at least in the beginning. Although our check did not seem to add up. Maybe it did add up and that's just how overpriced everything is. Crazy. Overall, it was a nice night out. I don't think I'll be eager to come back considering there was hair in my food. I remember going to the original South Lamar location over 17 years ago, pregnant and movie-hungry, passing along free appetizers when cravings changed mid-meal. Nights at Lake Creek with friends who ordered all the sangria before I arrived, leaving me with beer. Spending time at Lakeline seeing countless movies (and you have the best bar staff around). Bringing a gaggle of kids to Barrel of Laughs and then to the movies. Even during the pandemic, I wrote in asking you to keep billing me because I wanted to support Alamo and rented out a theater for friends and family when I was too sick to attend myself. These memories are tied to your theaters, which makes it genuinely heartbreaking to say goodbye, it's the kind of breakup that deserves an ugly cry, which I've done. Over the years, I've stuck with you through a lot of changes. I resisted online ticketing, seat selection, and advance purchases at first, but eventually I came to appreciate them. Knowing where I'd sit and not needing to arrive early became a real improvement. More recently, I adjusted to online ordering too. While I missed the interaction with staff, the system was easy enough, and I appreciated being able to browse menu photos and apply my Victory discount. But despite adapting to all of these changes, that's not what drove me away. What ultimately made me cancel is that the heart of the experience is gone. As I sat last time, waiting for my request, it dawned on me that I wasn't enjoying the movie BECAUSE of the experience I was having there, at my home away from home! There's no warm greeting, no friendly face checking tickets, no connection. Orders don't arrive. To-go boxes are forgotten. The staff seem rushed and discouraged from engaging, and the sense of hospitality that once defined Alamo has faded. Even small things add up, I noticed weeks ago that companion tickets should have been discounted by $1 each. I requested a callback about it and never heard back. I can't help but wonder how many others missed that too. So today, I'm canceling my membership. The Top Brass status I've held for years no longer feels meaningful. That said, there's one bright spot that will always bring me back: Master Pancake. No matter what, I'll always show up for them. Thank you for the years of memories. This is our go to entertainment place for the family. This location is always very clean and tidy and the spacing between seating is great. They host fun movie parties and their appetizers are always excellent! I'd highly recommend this theatre over any others. read more

Alamo switched to a new app based ordering system and it was not good (to put it nicely). I spent more time on my phone at the beginning of the movie than watching the movie. Then I was charged $7.50 for a fountain Dr. Pepper. And charged another $7.50 for a refill of fountain Dr. Pepper. I would love to know the margin % on those transactions (I am pretty sure excel will have to be involved). What happened to the old Alamo? I am a loyal customer for 20+ years but don't see myself going back at this point. read more
