Solid Mexican restaurant with very reasonable prices and solid portions located right at the intersection before entering the Ocotillo Wells area. Servers are friendly and efficient. Parking is available in the dirt lot adjacent. Food is great! The burritos and tacos are super tasty with that legit Cali-Mex flavoring. Meats are seasoned well. Chips are crisp and the salsa is fresh and delicious. Plenty of indoor seating and cold beers are available. Great after a long day of 4x4ing or if you're just breaking for lunch. The booths inside are cozy/well-worn in, but in the Salton City area, it's pretty impressive that they've kept the place free from all the Ocotillo dust! Would recommend and would return. read more

The food portions are HUGE. We stopped by on our motorcycles coming back from Mexico and it was a great find. Food was delicious and the service was great. Beers were ice cold and we had a great experience. Bathrooms could use a little work, but it also kinda adds to the experience. read more

Visited 9/11/2022 You won't find a better place to get a tasty meal at an amazingly low cost. This place was a wonderful change and a refreshing place for a bite. It looked a little run down outside but was quite nice and clean inside. Service was friendly and food arrived quickly and nice and hot. The Chips and Salsa was good with a little heat to the Salsa Thai I liked. Prices were extremely inexpensive for todays market. Best prices I've found in a very long time. Food was tasty, hot, and nicely proportioned. The Carna Asada was excellent in the tacos as was The Carnitas Tacos. I will be back to this Oldschool Mexican Restaurant perhaps for a Breakfast. Decent little Mexican restaurant in the middle of the desert. It's the only sit down restaurant in the area so we decided to check it out. It's very outdated but there is plenty of seating. The menu is very large and is extremely affordable! The first downside was they do not serve margaritas, beer and wine only. After a day off-roading a margarita would of really hit the spot. Even other customers near by ordered a margarita too and received the disappointing news that they don't have them. That would really make this place thrive. We were immediate brought over complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa was very spicy, a little too spicy to be their house salsa. The guacamole was also disappointing, it was very bland and tasted like guacamole you could get at Walmart. Other that that our main entrees were very delicious. The cheese enchilada I had was probably one of the best I've ever had, I thought it was incredible and tasted very authentic. Everyone else at the table also throughly enjoyed their meals. Service was very slow. We had to ask for napkins and silverware AFTER we got our food. Overall this is the only sit down restaurant in the area, entrees were great. The food was ok. My guy loved his beef taquitos but the rice kind of burnt. I got the baja asada fries and the cut of beef that they used was so chewy that I left most of it. Very good food. I had a small Carmen Special, which was carne asada and cheese over chips. I substituted pico de Gallo for jalepenos and loved it. My husband had menudo, which came in a big bowl. He got a dish of lemon, cilantro and chopped onions, which I used on my "taco salad." We have been here before and have always enjoyed the food. Good service too. I was starving by the time we reached this place. The ambience around the Salton Sea had actually upset me, that there seems to be so few thriving communities any more, and I'd been expecting more. After going to Bombay Beach, and being thoroughly dismayed by its abandoned buildings, rusting vehicles and general ghost town feel, it really got to me. It's very barren and bleak around the sea, and there seems to be few thriving businesses at all. Some orchards and farms seemed healthy enough though. So as I say I was absolutely starving by the time we arrived at Salton City, which is a misnomer, because theres few businesses here also. The choice of eating places was limited to Alamo, or Jack in the Box from what i could see. So Alamo it was. There was no one else in the place. It was somewhat dated, and as though it had seen better days. Not in its heyday anymore. We were given chips and a nice spicy salsa. I ordered nachos, they had some fancy name which I've forgotten. They came with small chunks of beef, rather than ground beef. The flavour was good, but i found the meat quite gristly, so i left most of it. The beans, lettuce and guacamole were good, but i could only find 3 pieces of jalapeño. On the whole, nothing to write home about. Blake ordered a burrito, and Baja fries, the fries were ok, came with beef, grated cheese, guacamole and sour cream, but the fries were somewhat pale, and limp. No crispness or crunch to them, and needed a few more minutes in the fryer. Blake enjoyed his burrito. On the whole, not a great meal, but i really feel bad for a 3 star review, especially when it's a small business. I'd hate to see yet another business around the Salton Sea close. I'm sure my review might have been better if I'd ordered something different, and if i went back and had something better, i would definitely change my rating. Certainly other people seem to have enjoyed their meals if the reviews are anything to go by. The server was very nice though. read more

Glad I was able to try this place. I stayed nearby in the same hotel where the game designer for GTA 5 used as his headquarters and this was his favorite restaurant so I had to try it. It's not hard to try every restaurant in the Salton Sea area in a week and this was one of my favorites and the only one (besides the bar at the marina) that I went to twice. When you're on the road and hungry and don't want fast food, this placed seemed like a good option. Follow your GPS because if you blink, you'll miss it. First impressions are very low. Run down building with a bunch of junk outside. Inside there are a decent number of booth or table options. There is also picnic tables outside that is dog friendly. Our menus and chips with Salsa were brought to the table right away. The chips were stale and the salsa was very thin and hot. Not starting out great. I ordered a Carne Asada burrito and my wife ordered a child's soft Taco. Our orders were delivered timely and after tasting we ordered extra Pico which helped with the flavor. The burrito was huge and filled with lots of meat but I found it a little bland without adding Pico and hot sauce. Overall very average if not a little below average. read more

I'd like to start off by saying like others have this place runs on desert time! Being so close to lots of ATVing paradise the clientele matches and were more rowdy, then your average eating establishment. -ex. profanity, loud talking, this would not keep me from coming back however it should be noted as some may be bothered- The salsa and chips were very good! Hotter then most free table offerings but the type of hot with flavor not simply blistering your mouth for no reason. The atmosphere is quaint and there is a lot of seating inside and a handful of tables outside. The Mexican beer selection was impressive for being so far from a large town. After settling in and perusing the menu we all made our selections. The menu consists largely of typical Mexican offerings with a few extra steak dishes the breakfast menu sounded delicious however we arrived at 5pm so I went for a more traditional dinner option. The reviews is the Carne Assad seemed all over the board so I thought it would be good to add another review to aid in settling the dispute. As a group of 6 5 of us ordered the Carne Assad (the one for $10.49) the flavor that seems to be in question 5 of us thought was FANTASTIC! 2 steaks cooked normal 1 medium 2 rare and all were cooked perfectly the meat was juicy and full of flavor. We even said we would make the journey back out here just to eat at this restaurant. The bottom line: -Great prices -Clean restrooms -Friendly service -Outdoor seating -ATV drive up parking -Breakfast We would definitely go back. read more

This is a challenging review: when you're from Orange County, with some of the best Mex restaurants, it's hard to be even-handed when reviewing one of the two in the 100 mile stretch from El Centro to Indio. Was on a Salton City exploratory weekend, staying at Ray and Carols' Motel (wonderful) and asked where I could go for dinner. The prospects were bleak: Blimpies or Jack in the Box at the truck stop at South Marina Drive, or The Alamo. I was told by another local that The Alamo had an adjacent bar, so I could sit and have a cocktail and meet the locals. After I arrived and sat down I was brought water, chips and salsa, very fast. The water was welcome (no funny taste), the salsa good but runny (red), and the chips seemed dated - remembering that that they weren't made in the last day or three... The bar was not open; apparently the new ownership has not yet secured the licenses. For adult libations, stop at the West Shores Market first. Ordered a Burrito al Pastor. Good, but not overly flavorful; I was expecting a bit of fire that never materialized. I'm assuming they tone down the taste for the local retirees, or Hwy 86 traffic. Price was very reasonable, around $8, IIRC. When I return for a Salton City overnight, I'll eat here again - too far to go to the taco place north of Desert Shores. read more

Looks sketchy but the chips are free & fresh, the salsa has lots of fire-roasted peppers, the beer is cold and English is not a problem! Very affordable, nothing more than $9. Also sells frozen tamales to go, 6 for $10. We had a perfectly A-OK lunch at the Alamo. Sampled a taco, guacamole, huevos rancheros and plenty of that yummy salsa. Tortillas are not made in house. Sauce on the huevos wasn't memorable tho. Seriously the salsa is excellent, up there in the top 5 that I've ever found in a restaurant. Right next to the Salton Sea and they've adopted a nautical theme, the restaurant is made to look like a boat complete with portholes :-). Outside ("deck") seating on a good day. Will, I recommend this place to any one ? Only if You are hungry, and you can not wait for another 30 minutes drive. The reason I gave this place one start is because the Menudo plate need it more flavor, portion was good. I had to keep asking for stuff, that comes with the menudo. Chorizo plate was a saltie. 1 star Steak with potatoe and eggs. potatoes are about 1inch cut but they were still hard inside, uncooked the stake was kind of robbery , no flavor at all . Custumer service, needs improvement. I noticed the waitress is young lady, she did not offer chips or water . But when a local lady showed up she gave them chips and water Food tasting overall only takes No 0 zero stars. If you like real Mexican food, this is Not you're place.
