DO NOT GO HERE FOR COLOUR!!
I had been here a few times for haircuts and as other reviews have said, it was absolutely fine for a cheap, basic, no-frills cut. I usually dye my hair myself but had decided to bleach most of my hair and thought it best to go to someone who supposedly knew what they were doing in order to avoid wrecking it.
Firstly, I need to mention how rude the staff and students were. Like I said, I've been here before for cuts and am used to being used as an teaching tool but on this occasion I wasn't even asked my name. I think I was addressed directly about three times in the four hours I spent there.
When I showed the student the photo reference I had brought (very simple bleaching with a few inches of natural hair left at the roots and some 'painting in' to blend in) he decided he didn't want to do any bleaching on the top section of my hair so it would 'blend naturally. Neither myself nor the instructor thought this was a good idea so the sulking student instead decided to put highlights through this top section. The result of this, because of my dark natural colour, is that two thirds of my hair is now bleached and the top third looks like a hideous zebra, absolutely nothing like the reference image.
The actual dye job is also horrible, because when they were applying the bleach the student was doing one side and the instructor the other they were clearly using different amounts of bleach so one side of my head is several shades lighter than the other. They also didn't leave the 1-2 inches of natural hair at the root which I asked for (and showed very clearly on my hair) and only left about half an inch. My hair didn't bleach evenly at all, not really their fault as I had some old hair dye residue on about a third of the length, and because of the different levels of bleach used on either side of my hair the toner looks really bizarrely patchy in colour - some grey/green patches, some orange, some blue.
The student left whilst the bleach was developing and the instructor then rinsed, toned and cut my hair herself. As soon as I was in front of the mirror it was obvious that I had made a massive mistake. I was visibly upset during the whole time she was cutting my hair and at no point did she ask whether I was alright or whether I liked what they had done (though I guess the answer to this was pretty obvious). That whole time she behaved like I was inconveniencing her by being there. I left the salon in tears.
I guess it serves my right for trying to get my hair done on the cheap but I don't want anyone else to have the same horrid experience as I did. read more
