I moved around hairdressers for years before finding Freddy, and rarely trusted anyone to do anything different with my hair. With larger salons and chains you find that people move around, leave, or get promoted and rates go up to stay with the same stylist. I've recommended numerous friends to go to Freddy Antabi and I don't know anyone that has ever fed back having nothing other than a good experience.

Having had many years of experience all over the States, with both excellent and bad salons...I have learned what is good! And I expect a lot now! He is an excellent colourist and stylist. He also does my nanokeratin treatment well too. I always like the results and get lots of compliments on my hair from friends and strangers, too. Call me prejudiced, but I wouldn't let anyone there touch my hair; there's always a chance my hair would be butchered by innocently ignorant hairdressers so I'll stick to Eva's! However, I was very much impressed by their range of organic hair products, as it's the first salon of its kind I've come across in Edinburgh. It's extremely clean and spacious, like any self respecting new age salon, and it smelled fantastic when I was in there! Price wise, it doesn't seem too steep, although I have no idea what the average would be in a European hair salon. I've uploaded a picture of the price list, so you can decide for yourself.

So when I moved to Marchmont at the start of my third year at uni I was pleasantly surprised to find this place. A sort of mid-rage, not dirt cheap but not really expensive hairdressers. Well ladies and gents, you get what you pay for. Not the worst hair cut I've ever had but I've certainly never been back. They were all very pleasant and everything but they're just not that good at cutting hair unfortunately. Not mine anyway.

When I was in the military, I usually sobbed on my knees while comrades shaved my head in the bathroom. When I was a teenager, my dear sweet grandmother shaved whatever 1940's style was NOT cool at the minute into my spiky 'do. When I was a child, my parents grew my hair out to cover my deformed Quasimodo face. So now that I'm free and chilling in Scotland, I've been getting my haircut by the most hipster mofo's I can find. If they've less than 8 visible tattoos, they're not getting near my wispy locks. First time I came to Boombarbers, I located an illustrated barber, explained my story and said 'Transform me with your sorcery', which he did admirably. According to my hair, I'm no longer a square! Woo. Obviously places like this cost more than your regular Turkish hot-shave. I think though, and surely you'll all agree, if your mother says you look like Morrisey from the The Smiths when you're skyping with her, your haircut was DEFINITELY worth the £17.

The interior is very nice, but this is the nice and friendly atmosphere that keeps me coming back, and they provide it in both of their hairdressing salons. Moreover, knowing already how busy there is @ Gorgie salon, they must represent a really TRADE cut - they got more and more people coming. I absolutely recommend this place!

The boy is super fussy with who cuts his hair so it took a bit of convincing that another local barber could do as good of a job or better... Thankfully I choose the right spot & got lucky! (As the hair dressers right before this place had a lady walk out with bright blue & pink multi colored permed hair & I think he might have panicked if we walked in as she walked out...) So on to the next place, a spot for men only "Parade Barbers: Bespoke Gents Grooming" and I thought this sounds like a safer choice! The place is small but just right, located on the parade. There were two women who were busy cutting men's hair but were friendly and told us they accepted walk ins. The shop is surrounded by mirrors, a front desk area, two chairs for clients and waiting area containing a couch with a flat screen tv (of course with FIFA ready to be played on a Xbox while the men wait!) Christine (the Proprietor/Creative Director of the establishment) cut Craig's hair and did an excellent job as she did exactly what he asked for. Super nice girl and fun to talk to also! Alan who runs the barbers is really talented and friendly and has great banter with the customers. He can also fix PC's in the shop which he does through the back if you need this service. He also has great sweets on offer which all money made on them goes to charity.
