When we arrived to the fly shop we were given some basic information and then led to the plane with our pilot(Jim) and Brooklyn. Once in the plane we were given clear safety instructions by Jim and off we went. One of our group was a small plane pilot himself and even he stated that he was very impressed with Jim's piloting skills. The flight was smooth and the skies were clear which allowed us all to get beautiful views from all sides of the plane. The scenery was magnificent and the information given in a recorded message by our pilot Jim was very informative. We were able to land in the fiord and I can honestly say that the landing was perfection as you did not even know you touched the water before slowing down to drift! We were able to get out of the plane in water that was 600' deep and sit on the floats. The most peaceful place on earth and scenery that was indescribable. We got a photo op and more information about the history and area before getting back into the plane for the ride back to the dock. If you do anything in Alaska it has to be whale watching in Juneau and flying with Family Air in the Misty Fjords National Monument in Ketchikan. Thank you for such a memorable experience!

Since my friend is vegan and the most of the float plane excursions our cruise offered included a seafood feast, it was not an option for us so I did research and found that Carlin prices were fair. The directions about where to meet to be picked up was clear once we docked at the port. It was literally right there at the expected time. Heidi, the owner who picked us up, was very bubbly and friendly. Our pilot, Timber, was very experienced and personable. I'm very happy with the overall experience, and felt it was worth every penny spent. The aerial view was utterly breathtaking, and every second of it was a grand sight to witness! Once we landed, we were allowed to take pictures and immerse ourselves in nature's beauty. My friend and I switched seats on the flight back so that we can experience different views, which was also spectacular. Highly recommend to anyone who is just stopping in Ketchikan for the day!! Safety first and then fantastic experiences, locally raised pilot took us to wonderful wilderness lake to experience a bit of what it is like in the Majestic Misty Fjords. What a great idea that the city of Ketchikan offers a free shuttle bus that takes you for a great tour of the many beautiful sights around the city. We took the bus halfway around on our first go. Got off to explore Creek Street, the got back on another bus and finished the entire route. It was a great and comfortable way to see the many places.

The food is incredible and you can tell they really pride themselves on making delicious food. There are always fun activities on board to keep busy on those days at sea. The movie selection in the rooms was really great! So many movies we love and even some we've never seen. I think what really made this cruise amazing was the staff. They really enjoy their time on board and take pride in their work. It is evident in everything they do. From the room service every morning to the bartenders dancing and singing behind the bar. They are the reason we will use HAL for all our cruises going forward. Special shoutout to Ono who brought us our breakfast in bed everyday, Hery and Zon our house keeping team who greeted us by name everyday. They made the whole trip such a great experience. We wanted to reserve a table by the window , when they have no reservation at all, she refused to let us made the reservation, and it was at 5.30. Since no one has made reservations for the table, even the server there said we could reserve it as no one has. Also I was told that we have the casino offer, but when checked they said only one Cabin is but not the other. We have travel in Holland America many times. And I think this is unacceptable . We were short changed. So for our next cruise, we are going with a different cruise line . Very disappointing
