Not being a gym rat, and really just a sedentary old lady, I never considered joining a gym. Then…read moreCovid hit and the high school pool closed for an indefinite time. That was really my only exercise, the aquasize. We rarely had a teacher there. I heard that the Bay Club offered pool classes at a reasonable price so I thought I'd try it. It was wonderful! We had great teachers, especially Kelly. So knowledgeable, never boring, enthusiastic, and I began to think of muscles, balance, cardio like I never did before. Then other classes came to my attention and I tried a couple. Boy, they are an eye opener. Doing things on land that I only ever tried in water. And I have a few muscles I'd. never seen before! it's a great resource in our little town, so friendly. And yes the price went up recently, but not unreasonably so. Everything is going up, right. Its clean, well kept, lots of equipment, classes and appeals to all ages and stages of fitness. I'm still an old lady, but now, a gym mouse.

I belonged to the club when I lived in Homer, and it was relatively new at the time. The pool is nice because it's salt water, but it's small for a lap swimmer. I believe it's only 10 yards which is short for me. Racquetball is popular here as is the rock climbing wall. There's an abundance of free weights and machines alike. Lots of cardio machines round things out in the equipment room, and there's a large multi-purpose room as well. Not too shabby for Homer! The downside for me is the locker room. It's small and crowded with community showering. At rush hour, it can get pretty tight. Also, since I only use the club a few times a month in the summer, I have to pay the daily rate of $18 plus another buck for a towel. That seems a little steep for a day pass. I'll continue to go here since I can get in a workout, a shower, and a shave for one okay price. I live on my boat and a shower alone at one of the local watering holes is $7.
