Entering this hotel you can only have good expectations. But by the time you have had your room,…read moretaking the lift up to 4th floor, standing on the terrace with a view over Gaeta, you realize you don't feel welcome. You wonder why, but later you have had enough experience to understand how come. The staff is only interested in them self. Guests come and go, so why bother, seems to be the motto. A pity. Hotel Gajeta could be so much more.

This is the second time we've stayed at Hotel Gajeta. Both times, this hotel and it's staff have…read morebeen wonderful. The staff speaks fluent English. We made our group reservations by email. Despite our schedule fluctuating and us adjusting the reservations a few times, there were no problems. They were very easy going. Upon arrival, checking in was smooth. The front desk attendant gave us the run down about breakfast times and things to do in town. The rooms were all spacious and very clean. The views from the rooms are all fantastic, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. The breakfasts are eggs, bacon, fresh baked goods, yogurt, sandwich meats, toast, and cereal buffet. Pretty good. Also coffee. They make terrific espresso drinks all day long. The restaurant downstairs has an excellent menu for lunch and dinner. The chef frequently comes out to speak with the customers and that dude can cook! The hotel is located central to everything in town. There's lots of places to eat within walking distance. It's a 10 minute walk to the beach side of town. It's also right at the base of the hill which has amazing views during sunrise and sunset. I highly recommend staying at the Hotel Gajeta when visiting Gaeta.

A single hotel room and the bathroom are a good size. Modern, clean, affordable*. (*I was here in…read moreJune 2018 and had prepaid a non-refundable reservation through Booking.com, €457 for 5 nights.) For me, the bed was quite uncomfortable. With that being said, if you like a very hard bed, then you will sleep well. (This opinion is coming from someone who has a Serta iComfort mattress, so take that into consideration when reading my opinion.) Breakfast (colazione) buffet is varied and plentiful. (7:00 a.m. to 10 a.m.) Offerings are several types of cereals, eggs, 'sausage' (meaning more like little hotdogs for us Americans), pastries, etc. Of course, like almost anywhere in Italy, the coffee (caffe) is smooth and yummy.Pool is large and is also a lap pool. Drinks (full bar) are offered around the pool. If you want pizza, they have another outdoor section near the pool where you can order food. There is a Mirasole restaurant that serves lunch and dinner, but dinner service ends at 9 p.m., which is out of character for all other eateries. I have not eaten here as there are so many other interesting restaurants to try. Some of the front desk staff are not as cordial as others, but all are helpful as they can be. Ah, the balcony in my room was so nice to spend time just relaxing. My room faced the front of the hotel. The view of the water, beach, and mountains are lovely. (Will attach photos.) You are only a couple of blocks from the beach. Mirasole offered a 1-day pass with my reservation to the beach to reserve beach loungers, a chair, and umbrella. Otherwise, plan on spending €15 - €20 /day, for an all-day rental. Access to the beach and walking the beach is free, but again, you will have to pay if you want an umbrella, loungers etc. Each business on the beach is like the gestapo, so do not think you can slip into a lounger for free. Ok, enough said....heading to the spiaggia (beach)!
