The owner, Salvatore, is genuine, kind, and welcoming. He prepared a wonderful breakfast each morning complete with fruit, coffee, and fresh baked goods (he would travel into town each morning to buy the baked goods!). His hospitality exceeded our expectations. The property itself is very unique and eclectic, with decor that seamlessly worked to create a relaxing atmosphere. Our view was not great as we just looked at the building next door but this is to be expected in a hotel in the middle of the city so not an issue. The room was quite small though the bathroom and shower were spacious and the bidet was a nice treat. The included breakfast was very nice and tasty and the staff here was very attentive and friendly. My only complaint really was that we could here the kitchen/restaurant pretty well in our room.

Not sure how this all worked out in our favor but the abbey was truly a fairytale that came true. The hotel room was better to see in person than what I saw online. The restaurant was Michelin rated in 2018 and an amazing experience to have. We hope to return for an anniversary in the next 5 to 10 years. We had the pleasure of staying here during our independent driving trip throughout Tuscany. We only…read morestayed for one night but we really enjoyed it, especially the hospitality! This inn is like staying in someone's home. In fact, it IS a house! The family owners were sitting in their living room when we checked in and were just as friendly as can be. There are picturesque olive groves on the property as well as adorable donkeys (they didn't bother us at all as the owners move them at night so they won't disturb their guests) and a friendly cat who lives in the main house. The first room we were shown was extremely spacious with large windows and a small balcony but it reeked of cigarette smoke (hey, it's Europe after all) so we asked to see another room. We chose a small room with no window that didn't smell of smoke and we were very comfortable. There was a refrigerator in our room as well as a very spacious and well-equipped bathroom. Toiletries and ample towels were provided. There was lots of easy, free parking and the grounds were bursting with blooming flowers and plants. The house / inn is located on a working farm so it was a lot of fun to look around. The complimentary breakfast was lovely with delicious homemade sweet breads and cookies and tasty Italian coffee made to order. The owner even sent us on our way with a bag of freshly baked, homemade biscotti! This isn't a 5 star hotel or resort, you are literally a guest in someone's home. But the owners welcomed us with big smiles and open arms. So warm and friendly in every way. There's not much to see or do in Spoleto so I would recommend this inn as a one-night, just passing through sort of place to stay. It's difficult to find (see my photos, you have to turn down a long dirt road or you will miss it)! Note that only limited English is spoken so if you aren't fluent in Italian, make sure you have a translation book. We both took minor Italian lessons before our trip and we were able to communicate just fine. Remember, you are traveling outside of your native country so be respectful and always attempt to communicate in the language of the country in which you are visiting.

This hotel appears to be family run and is very professional, clean, co-operative and welcoming…read more Some staff are excellent English speakers and are very helpful re restaurants etc. I recommend this hotel to couples, families and even a tour group was handled professionally by the hotel staff. Wonderful people, good hotel, we extended our stay from 1 night to 4. Only drawback is that to get to town centre, you have a steep 20 minute climb up medieval lanes and alleys. Quite testing but do- able. I'm nearly 69 and did it with 1 stop, which just happened to be a bar with cold beer! Don't forget it is downhill all the way back!

That's where the name of the B&B comes from. Everything has been redone and brought to 21st century luxury level. While the owners have been adopting the house to modern standards, it's also cosy and warm and not just stylish. The hosts are very generous and welcoming. Oh my Umbria. The…read morebuilding and the rooms are absolutely charming. The proprietors are as warm and hospitable as you'd expect Italians to be. And man can they cook. We chose an agriturismo with half-board so we wouldn't have to worry about where we'd have dinner each night, and we were both happy and sad we did. Both happy and sad because there might not be bad food in Umbria... so we ate heartily at lunch, then we came back to giant, delicious dinners, and we couldn't help but stuff ourselves. It was the prettiest pain. And we'll never forget the bruschetta toasted to perfection over open flame, and the myriad fresh, delicious toppings. We could've stopped there, but there were other courses to be had, including pork in purple wine sauce..... [sigh] The only reason I've deducted a star is because there was a mixup with the water heater, which left most of our party with cold showers each morning. (One of our party, I feel I should add, managed to get a warm shower each day - we think the lady of house liked him best....) I would highly recommend a stay at La Maesta. In fact, I hope to return one day. And yes, I'll go in for half-board again. I still haven't learned my lesson, and I hope I never do.
