I had high hopes for this place and have wanted to try it for a while. From the moment we walked in, we were not greeted nicely at all. Meanwhile, regulars were getting hugs and warm welcomes. Our waitress was alarmingly rude, and very snappy when we needed more time or had questions. We were the only people in the dining room for an early dinner and had to wait over an hour for our food. We have never left such a poor tip in our lives, my husband was seconds away from losing it on the waitress as she was very inpatient and rude with his elderly parents and our six year old. We told her that the drink wasn't good and my child wouldn't drink it and she kept blowing it off saying he just wanted a bigger glass. We weren't asking for a refund, just for her to take it away. She also kept saying things they "always have" in annoyance despite me saying we had never been there. We will also NEVER be back. The food itself was pretty awful too, my scallops were weirdly bitter, and the garlic bread was very lightly toasted bread with margarine on it - not even a hint of garlic flavor. We finally got to try this place out. We have passed by many times and I've wanted to try it. The restaurant is a house, transformed. Inside, we were seated in the first room on the left. I kind of wanted to explore the rest of the rooms, but I didn't. The menus here are your placemats. They have a few specials that are not listed there, but they are on a board when you walk in. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. We didn't take to much time deciding what we wanted. My mom and dad decided to share a pizza. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs and my husband ordered lasagna. Salad and garlic bread were included with our meals which was nice. The salad was very good. The garlic toast was a bit dry, but good. It took almost an hour for our food to be done, which was a bit long. The spaghetti serving was quite big. The sauce needed sugar and some spices, but it wasn't terrible. (My dad's homemade sauce has spoiled me) The meatballs had to much bread in them. They were softish and lacked flavor. I had to break them up into the spaghetti to eat them. My husband didn't love his lasagna and his serving was pretty small. I tasted a bite of his. It didn't have much flavor. My mom and dad loved the pizza. I ended up giving my husband half my spaghetti, which he ate, so he still had room for more. I'd say it was good, average, food. The prices were very reasonable. We all had a good time and will probably come back again sometime. read more

Ugh....food was good, but service sucked tonight. After waiting 15 minutes, we asked someone if we could make an order .... BIG MISTAKE. Our server brought a big attitude and a cold shoulder (and a cold appetizer) for the rest of the night. Never asked to refill drinks or how everything was, while she paid extra attention to tables near us. We usually really love Alberto's, but tonight left us cranky and disappointed. We get that businesses are short-handed, but there is no excuse for treating your customers like crap. Poor server got a 20 percent tip.....we normally do at least 40 to 50 percent. Tonight was our first time visiting Alberto's Restaurant and we will definitely be back! We had Eggplant Parmesan and Shrimp Cacciatore and both were superb!! Both came with the freshest salads and garlic bread. Joe welcomed us and we had a wonderful conversation with him! First time visit. Love the old school ambiance. Traditional dinners served with enthusiasm from the folks working the busy rooms.

Pizza is terrible, there is really no way around it. Easily the worst crust we have ever tried, we liken it to cardboard. The dishes are better but not great, I can't think of many other option to replace what they offer but that still doesn't make then worth going to unless you are old and don't have the patience to travel to a good restaurant. I wish i could give 0 stars...... NO MASKS IN THE KITCHEN as soon as we entered we were bombarded by the staff and owners to wear masks. The owner showed an aggressive and intense attitude towards my girlfriend getting two inches from her face while telling her to wear a mask. When we asked why the kitchen staff werent wearing masks the owner went silent and the staff spoke in his place saying they are only required to wear them in the dining room. Not the place where it makes sense to make them. I dont feel safe eating here and I strongly suggest anyone in this area reports this eatery/ dont support this place of buisness where the egotistical owner gets in your face. Excellent authentic Italian food!! Great atmosphere, large menu, fair prices and very clean! The salads came quickly and after we finished them the main courses came right away and were decent portions. It was a great experience with friendly service! My husband and friend ordered the linguine and clam sauce, they didn't have the right pasta, the clams looked like ground hamburger, with barely any sauce. I had the eggplant parmesan, which looked like what you would get with a frozen dinner, certainly not worth the price that they charged. It was to be served with rigatoni, penne instead. Our friend's wife got the chicken parmesan which had a strange, off taste. I wanted to have a glass of wine but they only sold bottles. Even though the food was very poor quality the waitress was very good. My husband, friends, and I would not recommend having dinner here. Sorry. read more

Dinner on Sunday evening, a very hot evening. The food was average,Baked stuffed haddock was OK, the baked potato left something to be desired, the salad was good. On a positive note the server, Marion and the bus boy Benjamin were excellent. It was very busy and hot but they were busy and gracious although , a night that,what I think was way understaffed. We are here vacationing and had a recommendation for Alberto's from a local business owner. My husband had the baked seafood cassrole at the guy's recommendation, the item is not on the main menu. This is a good place to eat out in the area! We had a nice mix with the group we had. There was pizza, pasta and pork chops. Everything there was good. The pizza is thin crust and my daughter enjoyed it! I had some great pork chops. Two big bone in pork chops. Was a little over cooked, but still very good. Wife had some pasta that she loved. I grew up and still live in Bennington, and I still have not acquired a taste for the pizza here. However, I know many, many people who love it and won't eat anything but Albertos pizza. Typical Italian and American fare- they have baked ziti, manicotti, lasagna, ravioli, fettucini alfredo, and of course, spaghetti and meatballs, as well as burgers and fries, fried wings, and my husband swears that the cajun steak is the best he's ever had. Drinks are strong, only bottled beer. It really has a good hometown restaurant atmosphere, as you will see the cook coming out to chat with customers, the owner making his 'rounds to all the tables, and the waitstaff has the charming New England humor that we all love in these parts. I recommend it for families definately, but if you are a couple on vacation who only has one night budgeted for dinner, maybe try someplace a little fancier. read more

I made a mental note come back for take out pizza after asking a LOT of questions about how they made it (true pizza oven, not conveyor - cheese on LAST etc). I am VERY picky about pizza and they seemed to know what they were doing. Last night we remembered to try one. We won't be trying anymore... Easily the mOST disappointing crust EVER. Looks and tastes like cardboard. Think of super bland frozen crust that has no evidence of being cooked in proximity to the other ingredients. This crust would have to improve to rate as 'pathetic'. So - if you want reasonably priced Italian food in and around Bennington/Antrim NH - Alberto's is fine. Pizza? go elsewhere - ANYWHERE else. read more

Well, this is about the worst "Italian" food we have ever eaten. My husband ordered eggplant parm, which was deep fried and heavy with grease and covered with pizza sauce and melted cheese. I ordered chicken cacciatore which was a boiled chicken breast covered in unseasoned pizza sauce surrounded by sauted mushrooms for $14.50 (really?!). Do yourself a favor and drive 10 miles south to Peterborough for a variety of great restaurants and skip this place altogether. $40 and totally dissatisfied. read more

My wife and I returned to Alberto's, the site of our first date 44 years ago, with the memory of some really good pizza. Boy were we ever disappointed. The sauce, even with us adding red peppers, salt, pepper and parmesan, had NO flavor, but the crust made that seem like a treat. Frozen pizza from the grocery store is better. This is perhaps the worse service restaurant Ive ever experienced sad to say, considering my fiance and I have been wanting to dine here passing by several times during our travels. For the price they are charging, their atmosphere was just unpleasant, outdated, and dirty! Right down to the poor service and lack of respect from our waitress that night, who not only left us waiting an awfully long time for the bill, but did not demonstrate even the slightest bit of respect towards our concerns when my fiance was overcharged three times* for what were supposed to be free refills for his beverages, as said on the menu there was a 3 drink limit. I felt so fearful when our waitress outwardly expressed her anger towards our concerns over the misprint in their menu, because it did not specify the 3 drink limit was indeed for alcohol, otherwise they should have printed this right on their alcohol menu--which they did not. Right down to poor menu design and a lack of even the slightest respect for their customers, Alberto's tops the best of the worst! What a shame... read more

What a terrible dining experience! Walked in on a beautiful evening, about 68 degrees outside, and all the widows were closed, ceiling fans off and no A/C. Must have been 75-80 degrees in there. Seated, waited about 10 minutes to be acknowledged (While the hostess was playing with her cell phone with the bus girl watching). Waitress finally showed up and immediately wanted our order, didn't even offer us drinks! Ordered white clam suace (that I was told is made fresh daily), and was given choice of spaghetti or penne (No linguini?!) Noticed that fettucini was offered as a special so stopped the waitress and asked to get the clam sauce on that instead (why wasn't I offered it?) Friend got veal, girlfriend got baked ziti. Fettucini with clam sauce tasted like pasta with olive oil... No flavor at all! Had to ask for garlic salt. Red sauce on ziti and veal was very bland and pasty. It tasted like tomato paste. Had to flag down the waitress every time we wanted something. All three of us dissatisfied with the food. Overall, BAD!!! Will not go back! read more
