alc steaks is a more upscale steakhouse that won't completely break the bank. the ambiance is charming with a slightly vintage feel. the food was pretty solid overall. the ahi tuna was really yummy, seared just right and seasoned perfectly. for the steaks, the ribeye was the most marbled and fatty, while the porterhouse (my fav!) was leaner but still tender. however the tomahawk was a bit thick and ended up being too chewy. their steaks also lean on the rarer side. we ordered medium rare, but it came out very pink, so we had to send it back to be cooked a bit more. i do love that all the entrees come with sides. the brussels sprouts and broccolini were amazing, roasted super crispy with a slight sweetness. the mashed potatoes were also smooth and creamy. unfort the mac and cheese was on the blander side the service was wonderful, and they even gave us a complimentary dessert to celebrate our occasion. the warm chocolate pie with ice cream was such a nice touch to end the meal :) read more

We visited ALC Steakhouse to celebrate an anniversary and were excited to finally try it after hearing the hype. The vibe is very much Texas meets classic steakhouse. It's quite dark inside where we were sat, and thats coming from a 40year old who doesn't require glasses. You could easily dress up or keep it casual and still feel comfortable. Parking is free, which is always a plus, but the lot is pretty small. One thing we appreciated is that all steaks come with full sides! Service was friendly, but slower than expected. It took about 10-15 minutes before we were greeted at the table, and while we had noted the anniversary in the reservation, it wasn't acknowledged or brought up. Not a dealbreaker, but something we were hoping for given the occasion. Even throughout the evening it seemed rather slow. Food-wise: * Dinner Rolls - Cute, small with good flavor, though the exterior was a bit tougher than preferred. * Buffalo Lamb Chops - Fun concept and flavor, but the lamb was gamier and tougher than expected. The dipping sauce, however, was excellent. * Filet Mignon - We were told this was their top quality cut. It was good and a fair price for the size, but didn't wow me. * 16oz Ribeye - Our favorite of the night. Better flavor and texture than the filet. * Seared Zucchini - Loved this. Great taste and sear. * Roasted Broccolini - Super crispy florets -- a win. * Asparagus with Chimichurri - Good snap. * Brownie Pie - Served hot and we added ice cream. Basically a delicious chocolate lava cake and a perfect way to end the meal. Overall, it was good, just not mind-blowing or the best steakhouse experience we've had, especially given the reputation. Had this on my list for places to try and no disappointment here. Early reservation for 5:30pm and there were a few parking spots. Def recommend using a ride share as the parking is limited. Upon entry the bar was packed and very lively. The main dining room was pretty empty and I was sat towards the rear with the whole section to myself. Two other tables were seated while I was there. The waitstaff was kind and nice, only recommendation is they could have offered the add ons for your steak as I forgot about it until I heard another table ordering. Ordered the tx onion soup (it was tasty, less cheese than a normal French onion), ribeye, medium rare with Brussel sprouts. Steak was cooked perfectly and the flavor was amazing. Similar with the Brussel sprouts. Seasoned very well and really complimented the steak. No dessert and the restaurant started to fill up when I departed. Stopped by ALC Steaks for date night with my husband and had a great time. Our server was Brandon E and he was awesome - so professional, polite, attentive, had great suggestions, etc. Five gold stars for him! APPS: (1) Almost Famous Crab Cakes; with a name like this, I thought they'd be next level, but was let down. So I guess they lived up to the name. (2) Crispy Fried Gulf Oyster; YUM, Yum, Yum. Highly recommend. MEAL: (1) Caesar salad; easily one of the best, if not THE best, Caesar I've had in Austin. Highly recommend. (2) 12 oz Ribeye Medium -- my husband and I split this and it was nice that the kitchen separated the steaks for us rather than us trying to divvy it up at the table. However, it came out Medium Rare so my husband had to eat most of my portion. I personally wished for more seasoning on the steak too but we ordered 4 sauces to try out so that helped. (2a) SAUCES - They charge for sauces but offer a sampler of 4 for $12 (you save $1 doing that) but the portion was bigger than I expected so that was nice. We ordered the Chimichurri, Still Austin Bourbon, ALC Sauce and Jalapeño Blue Cheese. The Chimichurri was very bitter - we spit our food out with that one, unfortunately. I didn't have the Jalapeño Blue Cheese, but it was my husband's favorite. The ALC Sauce was my favorite - very traditional and recognizable flavors. The Still Austin Bourbon was one we were indifferent about. (2b) SIDES: the steak came with one side then we ordered a second side so we ended up with hash browns and the Brussels sprouts. I came here with a large party and I absolutely love the ambiance of the place. It was extremely busy but our male servers were extremely attentive, prompt and professionally dressed and extremely attractive. Yall did great job there! We had a pre fix menu and I selected the southwest salad, my entree was the grilled chicken with creamy poblano sauce and mashed potatoes. The chicken was so dry and mashed potatoes needed salt but nevertheless I still enjoyed the food! Also, the appetizers were the stars of the show!! I was blown away it was so so good. The fried mushrooms, goat cheese stuffed poblanos, warm rolls, shrimp cocktail and lamb chops covered in hot sauce with the blue cheese sauce was incredible! I'd been hearing mixed reviews about ALC, but mostly positive so I decided to give it a try while celebrating a new job promotion. The ambiance is..interesting to say the least. It comes off as a very traditional, old school steakhouse but the decor is a little confusing, with random paintings on the wall. But, honestly, not a huge deal since I'm here for the food! The service was a bit slow, but nothing that impacted our dining experience that badly. I shared the Tomahawk for 2 with my partner along with two sides of brussels sprouts and garlic mashed potatoes. I also ordered a non-alcoholic strawberry spritzer. I was pleasantly surprised by the tomahawk! It was cooked a little more rare than what we ordered (medium rare), which I was fine with, but my partner preferred it to be cooked a little longer. However, the steak quality and flavor were great! The garlic mashed potatoes were okay, pretty garlicky but tasted like boxed potatoes. I would've preferred for the potatoes to be more creamy. The brussels were good, and I liked the sweetness. My strawberry spritzer was not great. It tasted like straight strawberry syrup and was not very carbonated. Overall, I enjoyed this experience and I now have a good spot to come get a solid steak! read more

Came here to celebrate dual birthdays (yay, us!) It's been years since I've been here and it hasn't changed at all. And it should. Our server was very loud, not the professional, well trained server I'd expect at a classy steakhouse. Strict rules about no burgers in the dining room, only in the bar, and unfortunately, that was what my dining companion craved. A chopped steak was not a good substitute, and my salmon was meh--way too salty and overcooked. They use their steak seasoning on the salmon and it wasn't a good match. The baked potato was served barely warm with waaay too much butter (and i like butter). The brussels sprouts side was the best dish of the night. Rather than a celebratory dessert, our server haphazardly and belatedly handed us a card (printed with signatures of staff members; there must be a stack of them and he just grabbed two) and a small container of their house-made steak seasoning (which, as I already pointed out, was not that great, as it is mostly salt). Had a really great experience at ALC. When we first planned to go it seemed like it would be a quiet night. That quickly changed upon arrival and it turned out to be a very full crowd. Luckily, the wait time wasn't long and the crowd gave it a nice feel. We ordered the crab cakes and sirloin soup for starters. The crab cakes were pretty good. The sirloin soup is their version of a beef stew and it came with rice and had a nice spice to it. For dinner, we had the steak with garlic mashed potato and the sampler sauces. The honey garlic pork chip with a baked potato. Their off menu item for kiddos (chicken fingers and fries) and the bacon truffle Mac n cheese. I also had a mocktail the strawberry spritz. Everything tasted great. I would definitely recommend this place for a date night or celebration. If you're looking for a more causal side, they have a separate bar menu and happy hour. read more

My review is perfect for anyone who seeks an intimate space with a limited number of friends to celebrate a particular milestone or event. Apart from a large dining room, they do have some areas set aside for privacy....but first.......This steakhouse is located right on Lamar Boulevard in a strip center just across from the tavern. It has literally been here for decades and is approaching 700 reviews. If you're coming here for drinks, the bar area is very small, cramped and loud. Now for the good news.... I came here with many of my coworkers for a special dinner. They do have a private dining room for such events which will hold up to 30 people. Since there was so many of us, they created a special menu for our group. The first thing that arrived were baskets of warm rolls and butter follwed by apps of shrimp and fried mushrooms which were exceptional. The salad was also fresh and everyone loved their filets and sides. The quality of the filet was tender enough to cut with a fork. Even the salmon was properly prepared for a steak house. The service was on point by experienced servers. The brownie pie dessert was served warm slowly melting the ice cream and the berries and cream were super fresh. Can't even count the number of times I've driven by this place without realizing what this building was! We came with some friends earlier this month on a random weekday, so can't speak to how busy it can get. Was surprised at how big this restaurant is for its location, and the low-lighting and ambience was top notch. Got the 16 oz ribeye along with the truffle mac and cheese. No regrets! Every single bite oozed with juicy perfection, I have no notes. Obviously a bit pricey, but the meal was worth it. Is there such a thing as a "dive" steakhouse? It's dark. Decor is old. The awards on the bathroom walls from the 90's are indicative of decline. It almost has a "shady" feel to it. The bar is loud. I'm guessing the regulars are here at least 1x/wk for HH and I noticed they ALL ordered burgers. The food...the food is just okay. Some is fresh. Some is frozen. Everything was a little bland. Probably should've ordered burgers. Service is friendly and efficient. Nice prices. Cocktails are spot on. The ladies behind the bar are the heroes of this restaurant. Came here tonight for an early Valentine's dinner. It's a solid steakhouse. The vibe isn't super romantic though, it felt more like a place you'd have a business dinner at lol. Service was great, quality of food was good, and the cocktails were fun. We started off with the classic escargot and the buffalo lamb chops (sauce on the side). Both very tasty - I'm not a fan of lamb chops usually but these were very good! Ordered the tomahawk for 2 which comes with 2 sides and 2 sauces. The steak itself was cooked nicely there was just a lot of fat. I've never had a tomahawk ribeye before so it might've been standard for the cut. My favorite part of the meal was the broccolini and we also ordered the garlic mashed potatoes. We finished dinner with the brownie pie ala mode. SO yummy. Fine dining at it's best. We were greeted by Brian at our table, very courteous. We started off with an order of escargot, very good, just enough seasoning without overpowering. I ordered the surf and turf, biggest lobster tail I've ever been served, ordered the filet med rare, you didn't need a knife, I topped mine off with cracked peppercorns and blue cheese. yummy! For my side I chose the brussel sprouts very flavorful. Others at my table ordered a 18oz strip steak with garlic mashed potatoes, the red snapper with red rice, and the pork chops (enough for 2) with the broccoli. Net-net, probably the best steak we've had all year and I would even go so far as to say this one would crack my top 10 steakhouse list, worldwide. Yeah it's that good... I think the secret is the local beef. We tried two steaks from two different ranches. I had the bone-in ribeye, as is my custom (my favorite cut). I thought it was wonderful and flavorful and just about as good as it gets. That is until I tried my partner's 44 Farms bone-in NY Strip. Look, whatever you do, try this one. It was so different vs. my ribeye but still so very, very good. These steaks will change your life... Can't recommend this place enough. Wish we had access to this type of quality beef wherever our travels take us. But if you're in Austin, this should be your go-to. read more

Before attending a high school football game at House Park we walked over to Austin Land Cattle to eat dinner. The place was busy and others had the same idea. However this place is separated where the bar was first come first serve with its own menu and the table seating with another menu. This place is bigger than it seems and there was plenty of empty tables where we easily got one. I ordered a grilled shrimp plate and it was delicious where the shrimp were huge and had great flavor. Randomly thought of this place today and came here with my girlfriends. You have to show up fairly early for happy hour because it's only in the bar area which only has 4 tables and the rest is all bar seating. Their HH is from 4-7pm which is great. We ordered their wings to start, the steak sampler, a side of shoestring fries, a veggie burger and steak fries. Everything was tasty and delicious!
