In visiting three Sundays, attending a bible study as well as a third event, I believe The River of Life Church to be true to their words. This is a place that is as inviting for the 99 as it is for the 1. This is a place where the hellos and greetings are genuine and not just the "get them at the door" hello and then go cold. This is also the first church I experienced in Abilene where I was invited to connect immediately with other members as well as having a great conversation with Pastor David Skinner... who, texted himself. I was not shoved in to some AI database and did not feel like a number instead of being seen as a person. The services feel as engaging to someone new to faith as they are for some one who has that cup runneth over faith. While, I have tried a number of churches in Abilene and of course, not all of them; I have found The River of Life Church to be true to the word, true to the Gospel and an authentic, engaging and connecting church unlike anything else Ive experienced in the area.

When I first started coming I was immediately welcomed with open arms and felt at home. Through these last 10 years that hasn't changed. No matter who you are or where you come from you are welcomed with open arms. I recently left for a few months to just explore and get a feel for other churches. And as great as they all were nothing came close to comparing to The River! So I found myself coming back home. The children's, youth, and adult ministries are all great and I would encourage anyone to get plugged in and become a part of one or all of these ministries. We learned that Christ came here not to condemn but to be merciful. We learned that none of us are perfect , and it is by mercy and grace that we are saved. Sermons preached at Rise come from the Word of God, and not someone else's opinion of what they think it means to be a Christian. We have learned so much and we are grateful to have a church here in Abilene that is truly concerned about others. We have seen so many lives changed through this church and highly recommend it.

The South campus has a bad habit of making workers feel bad if they want to attend service or can't work certain days, because they are always short handed. You could serve every service and every event and they wouldn't blink an eye if you weren't being poured into. There is a STRONG atmosphere of "cliques" and favoritism. This is not a reflection of everyone I met, because there are some wonderful folks there. Unfortunately many of the leaders were the ones that came across as not too concerned for your well being. It got to the point I didn't feel a relationship growing with God, but instead felt guilt for not meeting their expectations. My family felt it as well and we decided as a whole it was better to move on.

I still am connected to many of my church family there and am so thankful that when I travel to my hometown I can still see my church family when passing through! (My hometown is about 1.5 hours from Abilene and I pass through it on the way) this church taught me so much and helped me grow in Christ and as a leader! Today was not a typical day at this church or probably any church for that matter, the entire service was worship and prayer, and I felt privileged to be there for this. Also it is certainly what God had in mind for me today. I came out of the service feeling refreshed and revived. I didn't get a chance to take more than one picture because I was to spiritually involved. Although they're a little heavy on the tongues for my taste, it wasn't uncomfortable.
