They also have tons of Asian greens and veg, interesting fruits like whole jackfruit, and great snack/bulk items like dried papaya and nut mixes. You will find your typically fruits and vegetables but they often have a tons of items that you may not be able to get from a Kroger like longans, lychee nut, rambutan, guanabana soursop, and more! My only concern is that it can be hard to maneuver through the aisles when it is very crowded, plus you have staff working as well so things can get pretty tight but it's well worth it for all that savings and great finds you get. I'm always shocked by how little my cost is when I leave the register. The environment may not be for everyone but I think it's 100% worth checking out at least once if you're in the area.

If you're not down to be around a crowd, don't go on Wednesdays. They are really great for their produce, as well as Halal meat, nuts, and spices. I also like olive oil imported from Greece, and they stock it. You can also get unique cheeses and middle eastern yogurt. The good news, is for those looking for "American" ingredients, you can find them there as well. The bummer-in the refrigerated section they don't do the best job with keeping an eye on dates. For example, I purchased some boiled chickpeas and they were bad (spoiled). Some of the tabouli salad lacked brightness and looked like it was time to get off the shelf. The staff has always been friendly with me, and the lines move very fast. Another bummer is the parking lot. It's CRAZY and I've almost been in so many accidents there. Be very very careful.

I told him I did not buy any bulghur, only masri rice and bulk chick peas listed at 0.49c/lb. The owner heard me and rushed over. The chick peas are not 49 cents he stated. "That was a sale and the sale ended yesterday." I said well if the sale ended, then remove the sign that says 49cents/lb. He answers "Ma Bady" meaning I don't want to. Instead of being worried that his cashier was charging me an additional $3 that he may be pocketing, he is arguing over a few cents in the cost of the chick peas. This owner needs a lesson in customer service.

He picks up fresh produce at Eastern Market in Detroit and then has set appointments with regular clients to bring it directly to their homes. When we don't have time to (or don't want to) go to the store, we can get fresh produce as well as farm-fresh eggs and more brought right to our front door. He has a good variety of fruits and vegetables on the truck but if you want something a little out of the ordinary, let him know the day before and he will try to find it at Eastern Market for you. He always has good quality items for sale and stands behind them on the odd chance something wasn't what we expected. Joe operates in different areas on different days and we have a general day and time for him to stop at our house. Sometimes we text him our minimum list the day before and then, when he gets here, we also can go on his truck and see what else we want. If we need to skip a week, we just text him in advance. Joe is great at telling us when things are ready to eat or whether they need to sit for a couple of days. The Green Grocer's prices are reasonable considering you never had to leave your house (unless you go onto his truck, of course). I still watch for sales and hit the stores but have cut down on the number of trips and my time spent running around. So if this sounds of interest to you, call Joe, text him, or check out his website. Tell him I sent you.
