Be warned, however, that the store is now much too big for its car park. You will struggle for a place at peak times - often having to resort to parking in the Homebase car park that adjoins it. Once inside, it's a great store with large aisles and an airy feel. It has a vast array of non-consumable goods at very good prices (including clothing and electricals). The only real letdown here is the cafe unbelievably slow on and off peak, understaffed or undertrained. It's not a nice place to sit - nor is it a pleasant experience. Apart from that it's a great store with good customer service.

Good service. They also have two tills where you can scan and pack yourself. Parking is available outside in the layby - do not park down the side roads as you run the risk of receiving a ticket or being clamped but to be fair there are plenty of signs up warning of this.

The main disadvantage with the Hythe store is its proximity to the University of Essex. At weekends, the supermarket is overrun by students stocking up on cheap booze and crisps, meaning the store is extremely busy and a nightmare to shop in. Also, Tesco Hythe does not have quite the same range of non-food goods as its bigger brother up the road. In all, good but not perfect.

When I asked about sauerkraut, the employee walked me to one and offered to show me other variety in a separate aisle. Same with the meat counter. They did not have any center cut chops behind the counter, so he came out and walked me to good choices in the aisles. Cafe is has a higher standard. Open choice pastries, china and real silver were to eat with. Multiple options for milks and variations on their drinks. Will frequent this store when I'm on that side of town. They do indeed sell a "Geranium and cherry cupcake", and it is apparently very good! I'm not so convinced about their recently introduced "Cashmere Quilted Bathroom Tissue, enriched with extracts of Cashmere" however...
