However, this five stars is specifically for the stuffed pineapple with seafood - sooooo good, all 4 of us at the table loved it and I really would come back just to have this delicious, creamy seafood dish. Went to eat with my family, asked for a steak dinner to go for my daughter due to her having to work and we wanted to take her a plate. As she heated up her food she saw mold in 1 of her quesadillas. Called the restaurant and the employee was understandable and put us on a brief hold to talk with the owner, she then told us OWNER didn't believe us and that we weren't there long ago that they checked the pack of tortillas used to make our quesadillas and that NONE had a trace of it. The platter on the menu said feeds 2-3 and there were 4 hungry people in our party so we ordered the Alegrias Platter and another dish but the platter was more than enough food for us all!! The side dish of garlic bread, fried rice, and fries that comes with the platter was good to soak some extra sauces and eat alongside the seafood. The server was super helpful and even let us use two tables until another party needed it to hold all our food!! They also gave us recommendations on what to order and service was relatively fast. Lots of their menu is based on market price so varies so be sure to ask! Everything is super tasty and flavorful though and they even make a lot of the seafood easy to eat by pre-cracking some of the shells on the platter and opening up the shrimp. I was recommended this place from a friend of a friend, the location reminds me of a small mom and pop restaurant. Since I love seafood, I decided to go all out and order the Alegrias Special and boy it did not disappoint. I will definitely recommend and return in the future. This cute little shop had great service and decent food but I do think I need to try out their larger seafood platters or fried fish before I can give a final verdict so expect an update. They provide you complimentary tostadas and a spicy onion salsa that I absolutely adored (extremely spicy though) which was really nice. We ordered a mangonada which was refreshing but a little on the icier side, a shrimp ceviche which I actually did not like because the shrimp seemed overcooked and it was on the saltier side, and an octopus ceviche that was actually very good!! I've been wanting to try this spot for a while, and I took my parents to experience it with me. We were first greeted with complementary ceviche tostada, which was fresh and delicious. We had no idea what to order (the menu is overwhelming with pictures and no prices), but our waiter pointed us right away to the special platter big enough to feed 3-4 people. That was the perfect dish to order for us because we loved the variety of seafood - lobster, crab, scallops, octopus, shrimp, etc - and the quality and amounts of it all too! The sauce was delicious, and we had a good amount of seafood leftover. The fries, fried rice, and garlic bread that came with it was also scrumptious. My dad's virgin pina colada (we didn't bring our own alcohol with us oops!) was very refreshing with the meal. The servers were so nice and explained that everything was made fresh to order too! A friend and I came here on a warm 70+ degree day in April after thrifting nearby on Milwaukee. We were in the mood for seafood so this was perfect. They bring you a mini tostada seafood plate to start off as well as these fire chips and salsa (the salsa is pretty damn hot and I can tolerate spice well). We decided to just go for the aguachiles (with green sauce) to split since my friend wasn't super hungry. It came out pretty quickly. The first thing we noticed was that it was a bit sour - more sour than normal. The overall freshness of the food, shrimp, etc was good, but the sourness wasn't the greatest taste. I'm willing to come back and try other stuff though. The initial little complimentary tostadas they give out is a nice gesture and tastes great, so I don't see why I wouldn't return to sample other things. I also love that spicy salsa! Hmm not crazy about Alegrias. Went on Sunday with a good friend. The food was good, but the service was pretty bad. I arrived and, a tad awkwardly, stood near the bar to ask where I could sit. At least three workers saw me and just ignored me until I stopped one on his way to a table to confirm what is the protocol for getting a table. I was told any clean table. We placed our order and went with sharing the stuffed lobster, crab legs and shrimp dish. I wish I remembered the name. We were brought this ceviche appetizer which tasted ok. Our main dish came out fairly quickly and it was so much food! The menu says 2-3 people but it really is enough for 3-4. In the time we were there, I think someone checked in on us once and I had to get up soon after our dish was brought to get utensils for opening the crab legs. This is a great place for large parties for those seafood lovers. Came here for a friend's birthday dinner and loved it. You may think the portions are small but all the portions were huge. They gave free apetizers for everyone in the group. Can I just rave about the pineapple fried rice. The majority of the seafood was terrific, with highlights (for me) being the ceviche, pulpo, langosta, and fried shrimp. Heck, even the bread was fantastic! I will admit that I'm not the biggest fan of seafood. Outside of shrimp, I'm not very adventurous. Even though I had a mostly shrimp meal tonight, I've got to say that it was pretty darn good! We had a party of 21 which from the get go sounds like a logistical nightmare. Luckily, they have a giant upstairs party room which was perfect for us. It afforded us a little privacy and allowed us to move around and be a little rowdy. They gave us each a small cerveche on a tostada on the house. I felt that it was a nice touch and was extremely flavorful without the "fishy" taste. We got another cerveche and guacamole. Both were ok, but they were missing something. I was particularly disappointed in the guacamole. I feel something was off with it. Either way, we went with the giant platters which would be difficult to describe. It had tons of shrimp in different styles and sauces, snapper, and lobster! I just went with the shrimp. One grilled in a spicy sauce. That sauce really snuck up on me! Next was the bacon wrapped shrimp which was pretty good too. The biggest surprise was the fried shrimp. They were sizable and crispy. Sometimes the simplest is the best. Other interesting items from the dinner was the spiciest (and pinkest) salsa I have ever had and a pretty interesting margarita mix. The menu stated that there was a pitcher available, but they "ran out". They could only give me a glass. That was weird! I would be rude if I forgot the fantastic staff that made us feel like VIPs. They helped us with every need and explained dishes to us multiple times. Lis and Horacio are the best! Don't let the location deter you. This is a unique Mexican seafood place that has amazing food. Yes, they are pretty heavy on the carbs (rice and fries on the same plate) but the main course is the draw. The food here is incredible. How incredible? Let's just say the last time I went I was on my way to the washroom but then I saw our meal on its way to the table and I turned around. Shrimp, prawns, octopus, crab, mussels, can't remember what else was on those platters. The first platter for 2 or 3 actually has octopus which was a nice surprise. Both platters are enough food for the 3 men pictured below and we like to eat a lot. The fries are fantastic, also a pleasant surprise. The prices for some of the items aren't listed on the menu, and they're quite expensive. Be prepared to dish out over $100 for your meal. I think the most basic platters for 2-3 cost around $150 or something last time I went. It was quite a shock the first time, but I still returned twice since then. Bring a companion or several. I've heard pretty good things about Alegrias but I can't say I'm that impressed. Very average dining experience. My boyfriend and I went today at 2PM and there was only one other couple in the restaurant that was finishing up. We ordered : Algerias Mix (3/5) I enjoyed the thought of having all the different types of seafood but wish everything was cut to a similar and smaller size. The oysters on top were extremely salty and had somewhat of an off putting taste. I love oysters but something seemed didn't seem right. Empanadas de Camaron. (2/5) This is a staple in any ceviche place you go to and these were not too good. The outer shell of the empanadas were not crunchy at all. The filling (as seen in the picture) looks like a ground fish filling than supposed shrimp. The 4 empanadas were also RIDICULOUSLY priced. $17 for 4 empanadas with no shrimp.. I did use the bathrooms and they were pretty clean. Another issue I had was when I asked for any other salsas (green or red) and the waiter said the cooks did not have any and weren't going to make some. Salsas take little to no time to make and is a staple to these types of dining experiences. They also decided to start cleaning during or meal constantly leaving the front door open letting in all the freezing cold air. Alegrias just didn't do it for me today.
