We have had the pleasure of working with Alex for over 11 years. In that span of time, she was the property manager for a house we rented as tenants, our realtor for buying, as well as being the property manager for one of our houses. The only unfortunate aspect to her professionalism is that she cannot manage our out of state properties.
When we were one of her tenants, she came by regularly to check in on things as well as answer any questions we had. Her charismatic personality aside, what made her visits pleasant was that our questions and concerns were addressed with various solutions. In our move in day, I distinctly remember denting the gutter. I was planning to replace the dented section or possibly replace all the gutters. Her first response was that it was so small that the first thing she recommended is to send a picture to the property owners and see if they wanted it replaced and if they do, she know a handyman that could come by to give an estimate. It was great working with someone that informed you of your options while looking out for the property.
When we planned to buy a house in Chesapeake, we were in a bit of a time crunch. We were stationed in California and needed a home to live in in Virginia. We tried to do as much homework as we could and when we were at the point to get a realtor, we called Alex to see if she could also be our realtor for buying a home. We flew out to Virginia and spent 7 days in her car looking at more than 50 houses. Her positive attitude and enthusiasm never faltered or faded even on the days where we skipped lunch for the opportunity to look at another home on the list. Her sharp eye and attention to details pointed out things that I missed and although I at the time did not consider them significant (such as she noticed that the eaves looked they only had one coat of paint and should have more), she remained adamant that those things should be corrected prior to purchasing.
Lastly, when it came time to move again, we asked Alex to be our property manager for the Chesapeake house. We are not new to dealing with property managers. We have used every kind of property managers. From big companies like Watson to self-starter property managers all of which promise to provide quotes for repairs, periodic inspections, timely communications, and an overall sense of comfort that our property will be monitored and cared for in our absence. She has never told us "I don't know" or "that was my fault and I'm sorry". All I will say is that the list of failed property managers whom only look out for their company is much larger than the list of those that I would recommend as decent and honest, and Alex is at the top of that small list.
