I hope people see this review before they think about going here. I'd give them 0 stars if I could. They ruined my wedding suit. Not only on the alterations but also stains and marks all over. Horrible across the board on everything. Terrible customer service. The owner doesn't care about you at all. Extremely disrespectful. The owner told me "here take this suit I never want to see it again!" After I asked them to fix it. Good luck if you expect them to get it right. take 2 cargo pants 12/10/23, and she told me they going to be ready 12/22/23, I went to the store 12/25/23, and they wasn't ready. treat her super nice, not even get mad cuz stuff like that happens i lost my ticket after that and when i got time to go back there again she was super rude cuz I had no ticket, waste 15min of my time because she telling me "no ticket no pants", "rules are rules" even when the first time I went there my pants wasn't ready Like it supposed to be, also told me I was good making excuses when I was trying to explain her about my ticket, Terrible service to customer, never going there again. read more

******Oh my goodness. I called to set up an appointment to have a dress altered for my son's up coming wedding. They made time to have me come in the same day I called. who does that anymore. What a blessing. I brought the shoes with me that I was going to wear for the wedding. They sized everything up on the dress for the hem to go with those shoes. I called them back to see if they could redo the measurements for the hem of the dress, because I descided to go with a different pair of shoes. The person that I was talking to told me the first pair of shoes were snagging the dress. So good thing I decided on different shoes. She had me come back the next day. They remeasured the hem. I went back yesterday to pick up the dress. Oh my goodness, what a wonderful job they did on the dress. It is beautiful. Perfect length. My sister in law wanted to have some memorial pillows made out of her late father's sweatshirts so I suggested Alex's. They did an excellent job at making the pillows. When I purchased my wedding dress at a TJ MAXX-esque bridal store in Phoenix, I was told that I was going to need alterations when I flew back to Indy. I had my concerns about finding a seamstress, as I had heard the horror stories from people whose friend had a friend who had their bridal gown ruined during alterations. Knowing my luck, I figured I'd probably be one of those doomed brides telling such bridal nightmare...until I remembered that we live in the age of Yelp. I typed in "bridal alterations" and behold, Alex's Tailor Shop was at the top of the list with an average of 4.5 stars. Bingo. I made the call and set an appointment. I had two dresses altered--a vintage lace dress I'll be wearing to my wedding rehearsal and my wedding dress--and after two fittings I can say that I couldn't have put my gowns into better hands. Miss Toni, who you'll find at the counter, is the sweetest and so helpful. Miss Sonia, one of the seamstresses, is not only a pro at what she does, but also she's a hoot. I have enjoyed every appointment, knowing that the staff is so kind and my dresses, handled with precision and great attention to detail, fit me like a glove. Anxious Bride-to-be's, rest assure: you'll be in good hands at Alex's Tailor Shop. A few other things to note: -Alex's does not dry clean or press, but they can steam your dress. -There can be a language barrier on the phone , so it's best to take care of things in-person. -I've seen other people bring in prom dresses, men's suits, and everyday clothing. I have been coming here since I first moved to Indy, Castleton area, in 2014, and tbh, I'm not entirely sure why. At the time, I was new to the area and it was close. I've lost track of the times I've been given a date for pick up, only to show up to the shop and my items haven't even been touched. The quality of the work is fine but the reliability of when it's going to be done is a crap shoot. Aside from reliability, most recently I had a dog collar I needed a piece of Velcro sewn to, fairly simple I think. I went back and forth on whether I should make the drive down to a Castleton from Carmel, where now live. I arrived at 4:15pm to find the shop is closed for a lunch break from 4-4:30....? So, I wait 15 mins for them to reopen. I brought in the collar and explained the small piece of Velcro I was hoping to have sewn to the collar, only to be turned away because there was fur on the collar and they are allergic to dogs....face palm. Okay, fine, you're allergic to dogs, I'm not going to shame a business for a supposed allergy. However, this was the final straw to push me over the edge and leave a review of this business after nearly 10 years of being a not so pleased customer. read more

I 'd use these lovely ladies, Sonia and Lucy, before and remembered how good of a job they did then. Fast forward to now...I was in a pinch. I was waiting on a dress that was coming from China and we all know how these dresses can turn out to be a "what a ordered vs what I got" story. I asked Sonia before the dress came if she'd help me. I told her the timeline and that i was worried bc it was getting close to the day of the event. She said "Don't worry honey. We'll take care of you. Call me as soon as the dress gets here." Well The quality of the dress turned out shockingly amazing but it took 2 months to get the dress and I knew it would take a while and that I'd need it altered. I lost weight waiting on the dress. She took it in, hemmed the dress and reduced the train in the skirt which was damn near like a wedding dress. It's was pretty big and heavy. With 2 days left til go time, they got me together. The lunch break is not posted on the website but THEY ARE CLOSED FROM 3-4 pm. This burned me so I went in annoyed but was pleasantly surprised with how personable Sonia was. She was honest, kind, and made me feel like she really cared. She helped me decide which alterations were worth the price and which ones weren't. She hemmed my bridesmaid dress for $45 dollars when the place down the road quoted $65 and she helped fix my other bridesmaid dress from ballooning out at the chest when I bend over. She is also getting both dresses done in 2 weeks. I'm excited to get my dresses back. Being 5'1", I need a go to tailoring person. I hope I have found my place! read more

While I made out of Vegas in one piece, some of my dresses didn't. Other Yelper's are on point with their reviews. High quality work, for a reasonable price. Happy that I didn't need break the bank fixing what my stupidity caused + Fast service- Work was done within a week and double checked that I wasn't in a rush to receive my items back + Quality work- highly impressed that they were able to piece back together the original tulle and not have to recreate parts of my dress. + They have to fitting rooms to try on the clothes if need be and mark/pin appropriately **Tip: Saturdays can get busy, but they are worth a few minute wait. read more

I was disappointed in the alterations-I needed a full length dress taken in at the chest and shortened slightly, and it came back way too tight in the chest, to the point that it was uncomfortable to wear, and it was cut too short (it was cut to my ankles instead of hitting just above the ground). I paid over $100 for the alterations, and even after they said they took the chest area back out, it still didn't fit. read more

I brought it to Alex's hoping they could fix it and not only did they fix it, they were able to do everything I wanted and even made several suggestions that made the dress even better. Sonia and Lucy are amazing! They took my daughter's wedding dress 2 weeks before the wedding and corrected the shoddy work of another tailor in town. They had to straighten and redo the hem, redo the straps, fix the gap in the underarm area (had to add fabric and even added beads to make it look like the fabric from the dress) AND figure out an appropriate way to bustle the train so that my daughter could move around at her reception. By the time we got to Alex's, my daughter was in tears. Lucy is the bridal gown expert but Sonia kept a smile on our faces during a very stressful experience with the other tailor. I can't say enough in praise of these ladies. They "saved" the BIG DAY! They also tailored my husband's new suit and did a fabulous job. They did a good job on my dress EXCEPT they didn't take out all of the pieces used to hold the tulle layers of my dress together when they did the bustle, so 20 minutes before I was to walk down the aisle, my train didn't lay flat at all. My bridesmaids furiously snipped the plastic bits holding the layers together. It ended up ok, but that could have been an absolute disaster. I have mixed feelings here. Your first visit is great - you see what a value it is and Sonya knows her stuff. But then you will have your appointments rescheduled or forgotten about. Or you will be charged additionally for a bustle when that was definitely discussed at your first appointment, but it miraculously didn't make it on to the estimate on the ticket. Speaking of the ticket, you better not lose it. The small paper ticket is the only security you have of retrieving your wedding dress. Bottom line, there are lots of others places to get your dress altered. Go to one of them read more

I've been to a handful of tailor shops all over Indy, and I think Sonia and Lucy have won me over for life. They're everything you could want - excellent work quality, quick, and very reasonably priced. As a bonus, Sonia has an abundant amount of energy that is infectious and is as cute as button. I had my wedding dress altered here, and I'm SO glad I came here instead of the in-house tailor at the bridal store. They not only charged almost half the price, but they did more work on it. It fit me like a glove! So brides-to-be, bring your dresses here - and your groom's suits too! Excellent service. I took a dress in for my first fitting and she made me feel at ease with the alterations that needed to be done. I have a backless dress and the shoulders were falling down. I had her add paneling to the back to give it a tighter fit and the dress hemmed. While there I also had my roller derby jerseys fixed. I picked up the tops today. INCREDIBLE tailoring. I was feeling hopeless as I ordered the shirts and they came in pretty big. (Too large in the bust and the shoulders didn't fit.) They felt like they were made for me by the time they were done. Having one minor thing fixed on my dress but the hem work and fixing my shoulders on a backless dress is superb! Update: My wedding dress turned out to be exactly what I envisioned. It needed to be altered and as a bigger busted bride even though I LOVED the backless look it just wasn't going to work. I had my dress hemmed, removed some ribbing that held the back stiff, she altered the fabric to give more back coverage, and she also put a strap that matched my dress perfectly so it would cover the straps of my bra. We eloped a few weeks ago and I got my wedding photos back. I cannot thank you enough for how beautiful my dress turned out. read more

I've never had anything altered here, but I've stopped in with my husband several times when he was being measured for or picking up alterations. The owner, Sonia, is seriously awesome. She has a fun and friendly, yet no-nonsense, tell-it-how-it-is personality. The minute you walk into her shop and she greets you, you immediately feel welcome. To accommodate her customers who work traditional 9-5 jobs, the shop stays open until 8 p.m. most nights, and is also open on Saturdays. Don't take that for granted and walk in at the last second with unreasonable requests, though, or she will shoo you out and tell you to come back another day (saw this happen to someone and was doing my best not to crack up laughing, especially given the comical look of bewilderment on his face. . . but I was also secretly applauding her for enforcing her business hours and properly valuing her personal time by setting boundaries). She knows her stuff, and she and her staff do quality alterations at reasonable prices and within a reasonable amount of time. The shop itself is one of the few remaining shops within that strip mall building just east of Best Buy, within the outskirts of the Castleton Square Mall parking lot. There is an independent natural food and vitamin store nearby, Men's Wearhouse, possibly still a used CD store, and it used to also be home to a now-defunct scrapbooking store. It has two fitting room areas, with mirrored platform measuring areas outside. There is also a couch where people can sit while waiting. As other reviewers mentioned, there is also a small "boutique store" area within the shop, where racks of evening dresses and other clothing (mainly, if not entirely, women's clothing) are displayed for sale. read more

My husband had a bad experience with some in house alterations at a store and was feeling super annoyed, so after looking for somewhere to get my bridesmaid dress hemmed, I told him to bring his suit here with me. They did my dress and my husbands suit jacket in a week and a half. Everyone who came in while we were getting our items pinned seemed like regulars. They even went so far to compliment Sonia on all the great work that had been done for them, reassuring us that we had made the right choice for coming here. My husband is excited to bring in some more items that don't fit well. It's really refreshing to have someone to trust altering our clothes. She was condescending during the entire fitting and even asked why I took so long to bring the dress in. She gave me an overpriced estimate for a simple hem on a dress; $30 +$24 for taking in the sides. I had called ahead to ask if it could be done in two days, and she didn't mention a rush fee until she was pinning the dress up. That should be shared over the phone. I could've gone elsewhere but it was too late at that point. I can't speak to the quality of the work, but I can say that the negative and condescending attitude, as well as the high rate was enough for me to walk out the door.
