Don't judge the book by its cover! This place is inside an older building gas station. But!! The food is good! The pictures you see pretty much resemble the food you will get. The fish tacos are good. Husbands ordered the chili verde plate. I tried the rice and beans it came with, I'm usually not a big fan, and they were tasty! The meat was tender and juicy. The green salsa is mild with a small kick, and was a perfect combination. The tortilla is huuuge! Husband had already torn into by the time I took the picture. I recommend this place!

It's a gas station, it's a quick shop, it's a super place to get Mexican food to go or eat in. The menu is expansive and every item we tried was excellent. Monday four of us had chile rellenos, enchilada and tostada, carnitas and chile verde. All with beans, fabulous rice (per a true rice snob) and fresh made flour tortillas. They have Mexican drinks also. Tuesday two of us had cheese enchilada and beef burrito and fried rolled tacos. Again with beans and THE rice! If you add a churro like someone I know did you'll be stuffed. May have breakfast tomorrow before we leave town. It is in the Alta quick shop at a Conoco station. Well worth the visit. You could get gas also but the food is what will bring you back.

Chili Verde Plate was delicious, large portion and a perfectly filling lunch. Well it is located in a "filling" station. The guys behind the counter were great, service was fast and they made sure they checked on everything to make sure it was right. There is minimal ambience -- standard tables, plastic utensils, paper plates. This place just serves up tasty meals at affordable prices for people like me who are on the go and just passing through Raton. Glad I found this place.

Carne asada and the chile Verde plate with corn tortillas and lots of salsa

I originally wanted the chile relleno but they didn't have any so I ordered the chile verde plate. My boyfriend ordered the carne asada. In short, the food was great but the guy taking people's orders seemed like he was one Karen away from going postal. He was as the youths say, "straight up not having a good time." Great, dependable food, grouchy dude. The cook in the back, however was singing his heart out to Kid Rock's "Cowboy" like he was auditioning for American Idol. 5 shiny stars for him.

The taco plate was perfect for a road trip stop. Homemade taco shells were excellent. The price was right for the generous portion. There are no frills as it is a gas station restaurant, but worth the stop.

Shredded beef burrito, beans and rice

Passing through and decided to give it a go-not disappointed, ignore the gas station association, they make great old style Mexican food, shredded beef had good chunks of onion and peppers, mild and good flavor. Beans were creamy an$ smooth, chips right out of fryer, hot and tasty. Salsa was good and chunky, green sauce spicy. Missed the 5 stars since the cheese enchiladas were not really melted, but the red sauce was on the spot and they were out of rellenos . Went through the drive thru, would recommend going in to get a more leisurely ordering experience.

Solid roadside option if you've got a taste for Mexican style cuisine! Just stopped for our second time and we're repeat fans of the simple but tasty cheese chile relleno platter, as well as impressed by the freshly fried in-house crispy taco shell for the beef taco. Our son was content with the kids sized cheese quesadilla with a side of guacamole sauce. All this for just $19 makes it pretty good for a non- chain, quick option when passing through.

I normally get the chimichanga and it's absolutely amazing! But today I decided to venture away from the norm and got a taco salad, for only $7! Every time I come through New Mexico, I make it a point to stop here for the service and especially the food!

    Chips Queso

Food gave me nasty chorro after, ordered chips queso and got a side of shredded cheese. Wish I hadn't stopped to eat here. I'm traumatized about eating Mexican food. Would recommend only to prisoners.

Nothing was bad. Was kind of a gas station. Quesadilla was prepared well. Guac could have had more texture. Could have given chili peppers. Beans and rice was good. Could have had more spicy salsa varieties.

The fact they have a drive thru!!! And it's DELICIOUS. YESSSSS.

Sooo yummy and has a drive thru!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's the perfect place for restaurant quality and convenience. The workers are so nice too!!!

Food seemed to be from cans, the refried beans were mush, rice was salty and bland. Chicken was undercooked. Sauce watery and tasteless.

Food was not quality. Location was grimey. Service was slow. You can tell that the food was not homemade. I would not go back at all.

The building itself is great -- adobe-style, colorful, and exactly what you hope a Mexican restaurant looks like. When you walk in, the atmosphere is lively and welcoming. We were greeted right away and seated immediately. Chips and salsa came out quickly. The salsa tasted fresh and traditional, but it had a little more kick than I personally can handle. (If you like spicy, you'll probably love it.) We also ordered guacamole, because we order guacamole everywhere we go -- it's kind of our thing. This one surprised us a bit. Instead of the usual chunky guac with onions and tomatoes, it was more like mashed avocado with a generous amount of red pepper flakes. Unfortunately that pushed it into "too spicy for me" territory. For drinks we shared a piña colada, which was fantastic -- topped with whipped cream and a cherry and exactly what you want after a long day of driving. I ordered the combo fajitas (chicken and steak) and they came out sizzling hot on the classic cast-iron platter with peppers, onions, and tomatoes. Always a good sign when you can hear your dinner coming from across the room. It came with rice, beans, sour cream, and guacamole on the side. The rice had a nice smoky flavor and the beans were topped with melted cheese -- both really good. They don't automatically include shredded cheese with the fajitas, but they happily brought some when I asked. My husband ordered the chicken and cheese quesadilla appetizer, but when it arrived we both laughed because it was enormous -- definitely entrée-sized. He said it was really good and had no trouble finishing it. Service was a little slow, but the place was busy and had a great vibe. It felt like one of those local spots people in town love. It's also right near the highway, which probably makes it a popular stop for travelers like us. Prices were about what you'd expect for a sit-down Mexican restaurant. No military discount, but overall still a solid experience. If we find ourselves driving through Trinidad again, we'd absolutely stop back in.
