First time I can recall having a good experience at the dentist! At other dental offices, it was always the same problem - they didn't listen, aggressively pushed procedures on me I didn't want, and the results were mediocre, at best. As a child, it was traumatizing. As an adult, it was frustrating, and painful. Dr. Alford, and his staff, provide an entirely different and welcoming approach. When I told the hygienist I wanted minimal polishing paste for the cleaning, there was no pushback, just a simple agreement, professional, no drama. When I mentioned that I did not want ultrasonic cleaning as it was very painful, I was told they already noted that in my chart, and the subject was immediately dropped without pushback. That was a first! Not only that, between the hygienist and Dr. Alford, my cleaning was so thorough that afterwards I couldn't feel any rough spots from my problem areas that get a lot of tartar! My teeth are also whiter than they've been in years. I'm still kind of amazed, because I'm used to LONG sessions, and having to live with sandy areas because that was "The best they could do without the ultrasonic." I am super grateful to finally have a competent dentist to go to where I feel comfortable, safe, and my concerns and wishes matter. Dr. Alford is easy to talk to and put me right at ease, as did his hygienist. I don't know if it's because this is a pediatric specialty office, but the entire staff is naturally kind and considerate. It definitely takes a lot of empathy and patience to work with kids! They truly deserve their five star rating. No one likes or enjoys the dentist, so when you see one with five stars, you know it means something. My five year old daughter developed a pimple-looking bump on her gum. I used our dental insurance's website to find a local dentist and was pleasantly surprised when these guys said they could get us in the same week. We met first with the hygienist for X-rays and a cleaning. Then Dr. Jackie came in. She was nothing short of amazing. She was soooo good with my daughter and made sure she was comfortable the whole time. Unfortunately, an extraction and a few caps are in our future. But Dr. Jackie explained it all so well and even gave us the option of an alternative to the normal novocaine shot and drilling. We are scheduled in a few weeks to have the work done. We have been to several pediatric dentists due to them not being a fit or ones we liked moving. Jackie is by far the best. She takes such care, explains everything so well, and is so informed when I have any questions about fluoride, xrays, the cavities etc. One cavity on my son was a little deeper and I was worried it would be hurting for a while but it was only a little sore the next day. Her assistant is very kind and helpful too and the front office is very pleasant. I highly recommend this office. I have also heard Jason is amazing too. I don't know dentistry, but I do know connections. Much of my dental history reads like some sort of twisted experimentation, perhaps the reason I have gone more than a decade without a visit. Today, I felt the connection I had always been missing. Olivia was immediately helpful and inviting over the phone from the minute they opened, to ensure I was able to keep my appointment. I've already forgotten my hygienist's name - do forgive me - who was not only kind and considerate to me but did not treat my mouth as if it were a place to mine for heavy elements. And Dr. Jason was not only personable (I will definitely let my artist know you approve of the hair and you can let whomever know of my envy for the beard), but offered solutions that seemed far more reasonable and, despite the cost, lasting. If you're looking to save a few dollars on your dental health, you can always find a better deal elsewhere. As for me, I'll be sticking with the better dentist. read more

This was my first time visiting this dentist and was excited to see a new dentist with such high reviews on Yelp. Unfortunately, I'll give this business two stars.....for their front office staff who were cheerful and responsive. I'm 62 years old and have had many many dentists over the years and the quality of care here was substandard. Here are my observations. 1. Dental xrays were taken which were easy and indicated no problems. 2. Although I take very good care of my teeth and usually only have my teeth cleaned once a year the dental hygienist barely even scraped my teeth for plaque and tarter? Based on her work I, apparently, had little if any. If I had none wouldn't she say so? It appeared she was fresh out of school. 3. The dental hygienist polished my teeth before she attempted to remove any plaque or tarter? Huh? The polishing was superficial with little or no grit being used. I didn't feel any. I know what it tastes and feels like and she used none or barely at all. She just seemed to go through the motions. In my experience I have never had polishing before scaling since the purpose of polishing is to remove tarter left behind from the scaler. 5. She did floss my teeth. Kind of...... 6. I was not offered or given a liquid fluoride after treatment which is normally the last step in treatment. 7. The Dentist came in after the cleaning and scraped a little, made some small talk and then informed me I may need a crown on an old filling. He also informed my wife she may need a replacement veneer in the near future. No dentist we have seen in the last 5 years or more has mentioned these issues. Was he being extra diligent? Or just trying to create more business for himself? 8. A big miss was he did not do a Periodontal Exam? This is where the dentist uses a probe to measure your periodontal pocket and calls out a number to the hygienist. I have never had a dentist NOT do this. Especially for a first time patient? 9. Then the Dentist "pitched" me on his dental plan to replace my existing insurance. 10. Finally, I asked about night dental guards and he said these would be over $700. I can pay half that amount elsewhere. Its too bad but all in all, we wont be back... read more

Super professional/friendly staff all the way through the process! I called as a new patient, and was able to get in the next week. The woman who helped me schedule worked with me to get all necessary info quickly, and was knowledgeable about what insurance information she may need to make sure she wouldn't have to call me back. The day I went in, they were super streamlined which I love given I was trying to get back home to a newborn. Once Dr. Alford completed my exam, he recommended a seal and night mouthgard which they were able to complete that afternoon in my same visit. They also were able to tell me the exact cost of each of these after insurance, before I decided whether to do them - really appreciated the transparency! I also love that my family will get pediatric care in the same office I go to. The dentists at this office are a married couple with two (soon to be three) children and I'm excited to bring my boy here when he's old enough given how friendly the environment will be for a small child. Alford Dental worked with me on a very reasonable payment and even squeezed me in that day! I definitely felt at home with the welcoming staff and super personable Dr. Alford. We decided to come here to get our two-year-old's teeth cleaned as well as our own. We like that it is convenient for families and that you don't have to go to two different places for pediatrics versus / adult cleanings. Both dentists did a great job and our two-year-old even told us she would like to come back. They have TVs to watch while your teeth are getting cleaned and she got a toy hippo from the treasure box when she was finished. My teeth were rather disgusting from having been on bedrest all of October/having a newborn. They did a great job cleaning my teeth. I am pleased to report that the husband wife team at Alford Pediatric and General Dentistry could not have made this life change any easier! Dr. Jason does exceptional work and did not try and up sell me on any of the unnecessary things you hear about from big chain dental offices. Their office is state of the art and after I resisted the urge to play with the old school Nintendo systems, which are clearly for the children Dr. Jackie treats, I was in and out in a jiffy. My children had great cleanings, and when my youngest fell and cracked her two front teeth, they got her in the very next day for reconstruction and it came out amazingly. Wow!! I never thought I'd would actually enjoy a dentist visit! Both Jason and Jackie are so friendly and informative but, in a very professional and comfortable way. This family-run business is GREAT! We took our 16 mo old for the first time to the dentist and it was a great experience. Dr Jackie is not only calm, caring, and gentle but very smart and knows the latest research! She is a mom herself so has great techniques on how to deal with toddlers when brushing teeth. We were referred to Dr. Jacqueline Alford by my dentist, as our little boy has had some rough past dental experiences that have left him very anxious about any work being done in his mouth. When I called to schedule, Jamie was polite and quick to find a time that would work for me, and asked that we call before entering so they could minimize the amount of patients in the waiting room. We followed this direction when we arrived, and were promptly led back to an examination room, where I continued to fill out forms as the checkup began. The office is decorated in soothing neutral tones, with various paintings of adorable animals in bright, full palette colors. It's a great combination. Our examination room was clean and comfortable, included a bench for me, and a TV in the ceiling and a selection of kid's movies to choose from. Dr. Alford reviewed the x-rays from our other dental appointment and asked if we could do another set since they were blurry. As we waited outside the x-ray room, she explained all possible treatments for the cavity that we knew we'd be dealing with (we just needed to confirm the size) and the pros and cons of each treatment. Her hygienist did what we thought was impossible and got clear bite x-rays! We chose an option, and before the Dr. set to work, she had Jamie check if our insurance could cover what we wanted to do (this was incredibly appreciated by me as dental appointments always seem to have mystery charges). She explained each step to my kiddo, in terms that were clear, but not scary, and when we got to a tough part during the procedure, she sensed he was starting to panic and talked him through the anxiety. When We had a follow up appointment two days later as required by our choice of procedure, and it was done so fast, with so little apprehension on my kiddos part, that we got to chat for a few minutes. Unlike other dentists in the area, this office is unable to provide pricing information for anything beyond an initial work up. If that work up were to indicate that treatment was needed, then (and only then) will they tell you the cost of that treatment. By that point of course, you've already paid a healthy chunk of money and will be disinclined to go somewhere else where you might have to pay again. This policy removes the consumer's ability to shop based on price, and not accidentally. I understand that they can't tell me what treatment I need over the phone, but they should be able to tell me that they charge 'X' for a resin based composite being applied on two surfaces of one tooth. Not what I'll pay based on my insurance, but simply what they charge for a common procedure. The one place that I already paid for an exam charges 130% above their contracted amount (which is insane). That's the information you need to have BEFORE making an appointment a month out and then paying a chunk of money for x-rays and an exam. read more

What a wonderful experience!!! New to the area and searching for a new dentist for myself and my kiddos, I read several of the reviews for Dr. and Dr. Alford's practice. I thought to myself, wow, can they really be THAT good? I decided to book with them and find out for myself and let me tell you, yes, they are THAT good! The moment we walked into the (clean, bright, beautifully decorated) office, we were greeted by not just one of the nicest people ever, but four of them! Seriously, everyone made us feel welcome and comfortable right off the bat, like the feeling you get being around your warmest family members and friends. Our kiddos were instantly put at ease, as was my apprehension of being solo at dental appointments for 20-month and 3-year-old boys. The cleaning was extremely thorough for such young ages and our boys didn't mind one bit! Afterwards, Dr. Alford gave them a full exam and again, they had no problems getting back into the chair. She gave me very detailed information about both of their mouths and had very helpful tips on how to get the best brush and floss on their teeth. She explained the different types of treatment options, and I never felt rushed like I did with the previous dentist.
