Shoutout to the cashier - she was so lovely and nice, and explained everything perfectly. Ordering was great. But then it went downhill. It took 10+ minutes to get our (2) drinks, and it was soooo hot inside the store. We were standing there sweating, wondering what the holdup was. It wasn't super busy at that time. Finally got our drinks and couldn't get outside fast enough - it was a hot day but it was actually cooler OUTSIDE than inside. Tried my drink (the cloud matcha) and it was SALTY. I typically would love that, but this wasn't a little sprinkle of flaky sea salt...every sip had mouthfuls of salt. Couldn't even tell it was matcha. It was undrinkable. Wasted $8 on it. Quick & efficient service. Great location, in the heart of Beverly Hills. The person taking the order was extra helpful in suggesting that their decaf coffee tastes just as good (if not better!) than the regular roast. That helped with my decision making and we got a medium sized decaf oat cappuccino. It didn't taste any different from the caffeinated counterpart (in a good way) - thank god! Cool, intimate coffee shop feel on Beverly Drive. I'm pretty sure that Alfreds is a chain, but you wouldn't know from the store. It feels very unique and bespoke to other large chain coffee retailers. There were a lot of patrons in the store, but that didn't hold up any line, because they have the appropriate amount of staff working. The staff is super friendly and Swift in making the coffee. I ordered a pumpkin spice cold brew, which was the perfect refreshing drink for a warm morning, and the pumpkin spice flavor wasn't over the top ... it was additive to the caffeine experience. I also got a ham and cheese croissant, toasted, and it was very yummy. Sometimes when they sit in the display for too long, they get a little stale, but this was very soft and flakey and felt like it was made recently, fresh. The staff at this particular location is fantastic. They're always welcoming, warm, and friendly. I've never seen a nicer, more professional team. I'm always amazed they somehow seem to remember everyone's name, and even their order. The drinks are good, of course, but the team is the real standout. They should all get a raise. I would like to start off with how friendly the guy at the register was. I asked a few questions about their menu and asked for a suggestion, he didn't rush me or made me feel rushed. The coffee was not good though. I ordered a cold brew with simple syrup and half and half and felt like I was drinking milk. I expected a little more from this coffee shop. I would have liked for the drink to have been a little more coffee like. My husband ordered a mocha latte. His drink was 2/5. It also did not taste like coffee. It was pretty much milk with ice. I came here for a quick lunch break (12:10ish!) and was pleasantly surprised to see the Yelp check in deal for a free 12oz coffee. Considering I was buying lunch in accordance with jury duty compensation when I stopped in, I was DELIGHTED by this. I also grabbed the plant-based breakfast sandwich (they were out of burritos). The sandwich was good! Better and more substantial than the one at Starbucks, which is about what I expected. The coffee was super fresh and piping hot and was a lighter roast than what I expected but is apparently a signature bean from Alfred. I do intend to come back one day to try one of their signature lattes (and perhaps record myself trying it for the first time like the tourists who made a TikTok right next to me while I was taking a work meeting in store - no judgement here, I was delighted to see their happiness and antics). I've heard that Alfred is one of those places with pretty drinks, but the taste always seems to be up for debate. I got the matcha latte, which did not disappoint in appearance! Compared to Starbucks iced matcha latte, I thought this one was a higher quality with the powder more evenly distributed as it didn't stick to the walls of the cup. However, I would have preferred a stronger matcha rate and there was no sweetener added (no option was given for this either), which was unexpected. A Yelp check in will also get you a free drip coffee, which was decent but nothing too special. Drinks were good, but they definitely looked better than they tasted and since the matcha latte was $6.60, I would say it was a bit overpriced as well. read more

I am not sure where the problem lies, whether its a computer system issue, staffing issue, or management issue. And it shocks me to know there are several people out the door and that they are so willing to wait over 15-20 minutes for a drink. Furthermore, how is it that on a good day, there is one person ahead of me for ordering, yet there are 10 drink orders ahead of me. I ordered 2 lattes and waiting close to 20 minutes. By the time I got back to my office, I had wasted 30 minutes of my day. Definitely not worth the wait. I also had a gift card, which I had checked had funds. When I provided them with the card, they said they couldn't take it. Not sure about this "killer customer service" they claim or the many collabs/pop ups they do, but I do think they need to go back to basics of just serving a good coffee and it not having to be the most dragging thing of your morning next to traffic. I love Alfred! But since I don't live in LA it's hard for me to get their coffee unless have something to do in LA. Especially their stores are more in the West LA areas. I was bummed to find out they don't offer yummy espresso in a dark chocolate lined espresso cookie cup anymore. The barista told me they haven't done that in years. Welp, it must've been that long. Alfred latte has never disappointed me, so despite the challenges we have faced in 2020, I didn't want to ditch our tradition on getting Alfred latte on the last day of the year. When I got to the cafe, there was a post outside that basically encouraged everyone to order through their mobile app. We didn't know about this, so it was sorta hard to download the app in front of the cafe using cellular data. A few minutes standing there and waiting for the app to download, an employee from Alfred came out and just said she can take our orders since they are about to close in 10 minutes. We were really happy and appreciating the effort to get the orders in. Covid has made our lives difficult in many ways, but there are always friendly and helpful people out there!
