I phoned Champion and Emmett, and they were able to fit me in the following morning (in hindsight, this should have been a red flag). When I dropped my car off, the mechanic I spoke to quoted me 'approximately £200', and that if any additional work was required that they would phone me to discuss and approve. Later that day, I returned to collect my car. It had passed its MOT; a new cylinder and bearing had been fitted. The bill came to nearly double the quoted price - £376. I had had no discussions with the garage regarding any additional work or cost. The mechanic present was unable to negotiate the price and kept stating 'I thought the gaffer had rang you'. Eventually, he rang the owner, 'Ashley', who had done the work. He fully acknowledged that no discussion had taken place regarding additional work. It took a long and unpleasant discussion to reduce the price - initially Ashley had asked for £300 (in cash). In the end, I agreed to pay £250, but even then, I feel as though I have been taking advantage of. It is garages like this that give mechanics a bad name.

They offer accident repairs, resprays, general body repairs, MOTs, services and other mechanical repairs. After booking my car in and having a nice, friendly and reassuring chat with one of the mechanics, I made arrangements to pick the car back up in an hour after it's test. An hour later I received a phone call from Dot Mot. The car had failed it's MOT on 7 items. I thought this was ok as the car is over 10 years old and does a few miles to and from work. I then went down to the garage to get a quote for the work to be done and almost choked when the proposed bill was £450 to £500, with an advisory oil leak fix which could have brought the total bill to £700. After a mini scare story from the mechanic about the oil leak, I agreed to leave the car with the garage so that they could steam clean the underneath of the car to locate the oil leak and give me a more accurate quote. I was to be charged £30 for the clean down. After all was agreed I was asked to pay the fee for the MOT which was £54.85, which I have since found out to be the maximum amount a garage is allowed to charge (set by government)for an MOT. At the time I thought it was a little expensive as many garages will offer £29 for a test and a free re-test. When I returned home I had a chat with my partners dad who advised me to 'go and get the car back immediately, as he knew a garage who would not charge a for the clean down to find an oil leak'. So off I popped down to Dot Mot to collect my car. Within a few days I had the car looked at by the other garage and I was very disturbed to find out, that the car was incredibly un-safe due to a 'broken track rod end', which was NOT identified by Dot Mot. Along with this, I was told on my Dot Mot certificate that my "rear brake ferrule" needed replacing, which did not and was lightly corroded and an advisory. The other garage has since made all the fixes to my car and even put it in for an mot which it passed for a total of £180. Hopefully others will have a more pleasant experience with dot mot, but I will unfortunately not be using them again.

The prices are very reasonable and the service is very good. They can also order in any tyres or exhaust components that they don't carry stock of. The centre is within 5-10 minute walking distance from the town, so it's usually easiest to wait with the car. There is a good sized space outside to park, and a seperate reception area, where you can pay.

In fact, they didn't charge me for many things. I am a fastidious person and before this visit I have been to more than garage, all of them told me that I have not problem, only this centre were able to diagnose it perfectly. The Customer Service they deliver is outstanding and deserves 5 starts. I have experienced this with near breach to my house (Hillsborough), they are great in making loyal customers not just just make profits to Halfords.

We have now been using it for 5 years and have no regrets. The business is family run, and as far as i know the guys work Monday to Friday, from about 8:30 to 6:30ish. When we have had MOT's done there they have let us drop the car off earlier than this and drop the keys in at the little shop. They do not tell you your car needs fixing if it doesn't. They check for even very cheap repairs if you want them done, and we have always found the labour charges to be very reasonable. The customer service is good.

To their credit, I noticed I had a warning light on before leaving and one of the guys came out to check the engine. He said everything looked fine and it must be an electrical fault.
