All of these thoughts and emotions swirled around my head while I looked over the bevy of awards, medals, placards and golden trophies jam-packed along the walls of A-1. The danger in awarding someone an object, it seems to me, is in the weight of the success the object represents. So the craftsman better be good. I'd surmise that the owner of A-1, who was very friendly and approachable, has made his share of mistakes over the years. Imagine crafting some grand award and noticing afterwards that you misspelled the owner's name during the engraving, costing you all of that effort and time and material. I noted a hardened aspect to his personality, like he'd been there and done that too many times, crafting an expert. I don't know about you, but I like spending my money on experts. A-1 has a wide selection of products to honor any occasion or personality, and if they don't carry it, they'll order it from the web pronto. My modest trophy, a medal, was a fantastic deal, less than $15. It was ready in about four days which was crucial, as the ceremony was fast approaching. Another solid local find on Yelp. Be wary: you might find yourself talk talk talkin' away in this shop.

With little hope, I called Fred at A-1, who immediately told me that A-1 would be able to make a suitable plaque in a single day. I went out to the shop, and got lots of options and good choices. Fred took care of designing (and improving) the layout of our text, and delivered the perfect product the same afternoon. Not only that -- he didn't ask for a 'rush' fee or raise his price ... even though, as he told me, most of his team had taken off for a special event that morning, and he was running the shop all by himself. A wrap that should have lasted approx. 5 years started to chip, crack and peel just after the 1 year warranty expired. The company told me that is was their installers fault, but wanted me to pay additional money to have it fixed. Can anyone spell RIPOFF. Anyway, I wasn't going to make that mistake twice. I've been running an online clothing store since August 2016, and have worked with several screenprinters locally in Albuquerque (as well as in California and Washington now) to have my shirts created and printed for my designs. I would generally approach screenprinting businesses with an email inquiry regarding my request, and each time I have been met with timely replies and professionalism. I had a small volume request that I had to make and noticed on Yelp that there were positive reviews with Darko regarding low quantity orders that were able to be quickly fulfilled, so I thought I would give them a try. I went to their site and made a request for a free quote. Not even five minutes later, I received an email reply back with a SINGLE word, "Nope". I have been declined requests from other screenprinters before due to availability but I have never had a print shop that simply dismissed my request with a single word, let alone no explanation or insight as to why. I even sent a response right back asking if they could elaborate on why they declined my request and have since not heard back. Ultimately, despite the positive reviews on Yelp, I was rather displeased by the unprofessional reply they gave me, as if me and my business was not worth their time or effort. I hope that perhaps with this review they will be more mindful and professional when responding to customer requests. I do not plan on trying again to give Darko Printshop my business.

So, i actually called 5 other locations in town, all in the same genre/industry, "hey we'll customize a shirt for you, fast etc, blah, blah, blah...but when I spoke to all 5 of these locations, they all turned me away...especially once i told them it was only (2) shirts i needed done and i needed them by Christmas. Carlos from Darko's however, took on the job. I emailed him some photos, highlighting the two i thought would be best to put on the shirts and he got to work. I was actually out of town, traveling and when i got back, we firmed up the job. And to note, i wanted to o a ore expensive route, full corlor, etc...but Carlos made some professional recommendations that ended up turning out better and, was much more cost effective. Carlos' professionalism, timelines and most importantly, willingness to take on a very small job during a very busy time of year, speaks volumes about him as a person and how he treats/prioritizes his business and customers! Well Done! I was so grateful to him, obviously...given this was a last minute idea, albeit sincere, but totally last minute...and he pulled it off. The shirts look amazing! When we call, super-friendly receptionist, but slow to no response from Terry. It's been a week since project was 'completed,' and still haven't heard back about why: - final product has a bleed trim a full QUARTER inch MORE than promised, affecting final design; - mysterious $20 added to final bill - over and above quoted price and previously-articulated extra fee for trim; - despite a pre-job discussion about 'overs,' we only received about 420 out of the 500 copies paid for. We really wanted to be happy with this choice. Only expected what was explicitly communicated by Terry. Did not deliver on his word. Very, very disappointed.
