I had been wanting a retaining wall to tame a really boring slope on which I couldn't get any gardening done. I stumbled across the All Access Construction website as I was doing research on board-formed concrete retaining walls, I was impressed with what I saw--these guys are capable of doing massive projects. They should be able to easily do my small retaining wall. I called and Joe came right over, he took some measurements, listened and he and his crew went right to work. One thing that he didn't tell me beforehand was that there was going to be a channel for drainage in between the new wall and the old sidewalk. This turned out to be a real problem. One, it looks terrible because leaves collect, water collects, trash just collects in this gutter and two neighbors who are walking along the sidewalk, if they're not paying attention, they can step in accidentally and nearly break their ankles. I've contacted All Access to see what we could do about filling the channel with concrete and just making the sidewalk contiguous like I had originally intended, and I'm not asking for a freebie -- I get it that it's a small job maybe too small for them to deal with, but I've called and emailed and basically been blown off which doesn't feel good. read more

Joe seems like a nice guy, and I think he's at heart an honest person. However I'm not convinced his concrete guys are up to more complicated tasks. They're probably fine for simple retaining walls, or replacing sidewalks and slabs and things like that. But we had them replace our front stairs, and the results were disappointing. There were large variances in the step runs and pitches, far out of compliance with CA code. The finished stair set stuck out onto the sidewalk about one foot past where the old staircase was--a red flag for the city. In addition, the bottom of the stairs contained a weird design with sudden dropoffs on either side. Joe promised to come out and fix things up--for instance, claiming he would clean up the concrete spatter with a power washer (!), or some up with a solution for the inconsistent steps, but none of that ever materialized. In the end, we hired a highly rated SF contractor come in and replace the entire set...for nearly 50% less cost. I will say this though, the quality of the finished concrete was good, no cracks and the broom finished surface was clean. read more

Understanding completely the complexity and challenge this would be for All Access, Joe said he was interested in doing the project, and would send me a preliminary quote. This was at least 6 weeks ago. No quote. Disappointing. He may be a great contractor... I just never had the chance to find out. read more

I finally got a chance to write this review - but I had to make sure I do because of the excellent service I received from the All Access team! I had planned a graduation party for my brother and last minute decided that why not use our backyard for the occasion. However, majority of our yard was just dirt & woodchips. I had about 3 weeks left to the party and pulled up Yelp and contacted about 7 different companies. The only one to reach out to me - and immediately was Joe from All Access. He literally came the same day, checked out our backyard, discussed our different options and within two days or so we were ready to rock. Within about 1.5 weeks our backyard was done completely. Joe is extremely knowledgeable, he completely knows the ins & outs on everything in relation to concrete. I had a ton of questions and was indecisive on many things starting with - cost/is it worth it to do for just a party - the different layouts pretty vs basketball court. He was patient and always available for my texts and calls. He talked with my family as well, since we all wanted something different and helped finally conclude that the concrete layout would be the best (since the majority wanted to have a basketball court). He even helped us decide the color! I am thankful for all our talks with Joe through the whole process, his patience, guidance, professionalism but most of all his genuine & helpful nature. This update is not an attempt to collect money but rather information on the completion of his job at my house. Per the CSLB, Joe/All Access is now required to have an EXTRA disciplinary bond of $15,000 cash ($30,000 total). He has to reimburse the State for investigative costs of $4,500. He also has to pay restitution of $17,500. Final score in dealing with Joe/All Access: 1. Small Claims court found in my favor 2. The State found in favor of the CSLB/my case (and others). Per the settlement, he has admitted that ALL allegations are true. He made me feel very comfortable with our project as he spent the time to explain and go over every step and detail. Unfortunately, we had an awful experience with All Access Construction. We were promised beautiful work done in a timely matter. However, we experienced everything but that. Not only was the project incredibly delayed - completed 6months AFTER they had promised us, but as they worked they even ruined our property and never followed through with fixing it (even though they had promised us they would)! Our walkway was completely torn up (see my pavered walkway) and to top it off the work that was done was not only wrong but totally looks like garbage! I'm incredibly patient and and saw real potential in this company (I saw initially how hard the guys worked and the founder seemed so friendly and a great guy every time I talked to him )so it's such a bummer to me we had such an awful experience. We also realized he's not a man of his word and lacks ethics around fixing what he's damaged. The foreman on the job was very knowledgeable and the owner of the company came by at least twice (I wasn't always the one home so it may have been more haha) to make sure the job was running smoothly and we were satisfied. We really appreciated the communication, timeliness, and professionalism of All Access. Our patio turned out beautifully! These guys know how to work HARD. They take pride in their work and it shows in the final product. We enjoyed working with Joe and felt he took our wants and needs into consideration when planning the patio design. Joe is hands down one of the best contractors when it comes to business and follow-up. I called him back in February when I was in escrow on my house to give me a quote on replacing two retaining walls and the staircase to the front of the house. Not only was he the most reasonable from a cost standpoint but he was also the quickest to provide a detailed estimate. He even gave me a free notebook with his branding when he came out. If you google his business you'll find hundreds of photos and videos of past jobs he's done. I found this super helpful because you know the quality of work his team can do. Joe's follow up is also unsurpassed. I had a lot going on with the closing of escrow on my house, I had a baby on the way, and I had to start saving some money to do the repairs. Joe didn't harass me to book him, but he was great about sending a follow up email every other month just to check in. I called out at least 5 other contractors to bid the same job and I never heard back from any of them...not once. This is what put Joe over the top. Fast forward to August I called Joe out to replace the front staircase to my house and one of the retaining walls. He's got an extremely hardworking crew and they cracked out the job. Joe was great about checking in throughout the entire process and even came out on a weekend to replace my walkway lights instead of putting the old ones back up. He's a solid guy and he follows through on what he promises. You can't ask for much more. Joe and his All Access Construction crew were absolutely top notch. I had seven bids for my job: two from Angie's list that were ridiculously high, two from referrals that said the job was too small, one from my own gardener that was quite high and two from my online search of pavers in the area. During the online search I came across All Access Construction. Their website was very informative, had great photos of past work, and although they are based in Richmond, I gave them a call. From my first phone call, Joe listened to what I wanted, was extremely competent in his suggestions, and after his visit, his bid was very professional and quite reasonable. Further, he offered direct contact references. My job was to pave a small patio area, sure-up rotten boards around the patio, remove pea gravel and pave the breezeway access from the front of the house to the back patio. He provided us photos of the pavers he based his bid on and offered us a choice of other pavers at varying costs. Once the job commenced, the All Access crew made excellent progress each day. They even bagged up all of the pea gravel so that I could take it to my mother's house. I realized as they were getting ready to place the pavers that I needed to have conduit between the flower bed and the house for the electrician to run power for a water fountain. The foreman understood what I needed, bought the conduit and installed it under the pavers with no complaints. My yard is perfect! Bad guy and extremely poor at his job. He was hired for a job worth over $100,000. Everything he did was done poorly, months past deadline, and completely inconsistent with the plans. Here are just a few of the many many things that happened: He built a wall for me- city inspector in hillsborough said it was the worst constructed wall he'd seen in over 20 years. He was paid to install piers to support a deck. The piers he installed were so massively screwed up (literally 5 feet off from where they were supposed to be) that they required 10s of thousands of dollars in engineering costs to fix. He takes no accountability, constantly misses deadlines and lies about his work and does some of the worst work I've ever seen. Stay away. He was supposed to have completed and fixed the work that I paid him for but has instead run away with my money, does not respond to emails and has not finished the work. He came for a couple days to do some work but after that we have been trying hard to track him down to complete our work but no luck contacting him. He seems to be the person who books the jobs but once he shows up with his crew and collects the money he's no where to be found. I recently called Joe to do an extension the work his crew (not him) did 2 yrs ago. He showed f up for the estimate then didn't follow thru with providing the estimate. I can't thank Joe and the All Access crew enough for another excellent job. My wife and I hired them for a second job (see my wife Maria B's review below) after they did such a great job the first time. We had an extremely tight deadline. We wanted to throw my mother in law a wonderful 70th surprise party. We couldn't have done it without Joe and All Access. Our yard had just been fortified with a new retaining wall and deck all built by Joe and All Access. But we had about 3500 sf of dirt and rocks--with the party just 6 weeks away! Joe installed a beautiful 1600 sf stamped concrete patio, a professional 80 ft VersaLok retaining wall, walkways, a gorgeous 1200 sf lawn and sprinkler system and ran electrical and gas lines for outdoor lighting and a BBQ.
