Being there with gray clouds gave it a movie style look. We were looking for husband's family buried there in the early to late 1900's, therefore the flat stones are covered in grass. So we will have to uncover some of the graves. Otherwise there were no living souls in the entire cemetery. Must have been the storm that was coming in. The area outside of the grounds seems a little sketchy.

Willoughby Cemetery isn't a very fascinating or interesting cemetery compared to others in the…read moreGreater Cleveland area. There are really no great sculptured stones or any that are very old. However, there is one grave that is very special and it's worth the trip to Willoughby to see. It belongs to "The Girl in Blue". She is the claim to fame for Willoughby Cemetery. In December 1933 -- when she was still alive -- she was let off a street car because she wasn't able to pay the fare. She was found dead on Christmas Eve and had been killed by a train. Her stone reads: "In Memory of The Girl in Blue, Killed by Train, December 24, 1933." Sixty years later, she was identified. A teacher of mine at Willoughby Tech used to tell stories about how bodies would be dug up here for research by medical students. It probably didn't happen. That teacher was on a lifelong acid trip. Sometimes I would walk my dog through here during the day. Never at night. Are you nuts?

What do you say about a funeral home?…read more It's a nice enough place, with a workable set up to accommodate everything it is supposed to do. The part I don't care for, and it's no fault of this place or of anyone at all, is a service at holiday times. It sucks for the family. This place does its best to make a calming experience for a family and visitors during a difficult and painful time. The colors are muted, the lighting is soft. Those arriving via the front door will be greeted by someone giving direction to the appropriate spot. There is a smaller room off to the side that on this visit had coffee and cookies for those who wanted to mingle before or after the receiving line. There's a step down into the main viewing area, but there is a wheelchair accessible ramp. I can't speak anything about the funeral director(s) or how they are in interactions with the bereaved, but they oversee and provide a place with a nice affect reflecting the (sad) purpose of its business.

From working with the coroner to obtaining death certificates and deciding on an urn they made the entire process simple and worry-free.
