We cannot recommend Metropolitan highly enough. The level of skill and compassion are not to be matched. We've worked with 6 - 7 doctors and they were all amazing. The support staff is incredibly compassionate. There is no doubt they saved our Darcy's life. Yes, they are expensive, and yes, sometimes when they have emergencies coming in all at once for triage, you may have to wait awhile. But we're talking about our pets, who are our family. I'm incredibly angry that the Evansville emergency pet clinic drastically reduced its hours, but we feel safe knowing Metropolitan is there if we need them. Roberta & Bill N.

Our family recently lost our cat while under the care of Metro Animal Hospital, Clancy, during an emergency situation. What made this loss particularly traumatic was that we were inadvertently left on the phone and listened to portions of his euthanasia as it was taking place and there was struggle and unrest. We were awakened from a dead sleep and found ourselves listening helplessly as our beloved companion's final moments unfolded. Afterward, we brought our concerns to the hospital, initially seeking compensation, but really what we ended up seeking was acknowledgment, compassion, and an understanding of the impact this experience had on us. The hospital reviewed the case through its board and ultimately determined that informed decisions were made, appropriate care was provided, and no further action was warranted. While they expressed condolences for our loss, they did not acknowledge that allowing a family to hear a struggling and chaotic euthanasia taking place over the phone was a significant failure in communication or care. For us, the most painful part was not only losing Clancy. It was feeling that the emotional trauma of the experience was never truly recognized. What this interaction taught us is that when difficult situations arise, Metro Animal Hospital's approach appears to be centered on policies, procedures, and medical decision-making rather than on relational repair or addressing the emotional impact on grieving families. We had received excellent care there in the past, which makes this experience all the more heartbreaking. I am sharing this not out of anger, but so others can decide whether this aligns with what they would hope for during one of the most vulnerable moments of pet ownership. Clancy deserved a peaceful passing, and every family deserves compassion, acknowledgment, and support when saying goodbye to a beloved member of their family. Never did they say that they had implemented new policies making sure another family would have to go through what we went through. This is what truly makes us sad.

My dog used to shake with anxiety when we went to the vet- not anymore. When he went in for surgery, the front desk staff let him hang out with them before and after surgery. When I have a concern, I text them and always hear back within an hour. Like I said, I can't say enough good things about these people and I highly recommend them to every pet owner I meet!

I loved it, they were always great to work with, and the front office staff was super helpful as well. NOT ANYMORE! Imagine my complete shock and devastation when my nearly 14 yo golden doodle has a stroke on a Monday night and I have to call them the next morning to get guidance only to be met with a voicemail stating the staff were all meeting but they'd get back to me. I left a message sobbing, saying I think she's had a stroke and need to discuss next steps with her vet. FIVE HOURS LATER, I get a call from a receptionist who says they didn't realize they forgot to turn their phones on that day but assured me the doctor would call me back. She NEVER did, although I got a call back from another office staff member THREE DAYS LATER!!! I had already put my suffering dog down with the help of Lap of Love(which I can't say enough good things about). I still have 2 cats that have been at SAH their whole lives but I don't care, I'm moving them. I will NEVER go back to SAH. Their lack of compassion is something I'll never forgive. Like I am the person lobbying for a DB to track people who abandon/abuse animals with forced registration so that they can't ever adopt or have anything to do with animals again. Keep that in mind with reading this review. My mom knows how I am about my babies. I was recommended by her, an endowed chair at University of Louisville to take my animals to Barbour Lane Animal Hospital upon moving to Louisville. I only mention her position to say that she sees & talks to ALOT of people as part of her job. She told me that all the professors & students that have pets & they take them there as the Vets are amazing. People drive from South Louisville & downtown up to Barbour Lane Animal Hospital to get the best care for their fur babies. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this Animal Hospital for sooooo many reasons: 1. The STAFF (front desk folks, techs, vets, and resident cats) are super friendly and it is clear from the minute you walk in that they CARE deeply about animals & their clients and are super passionate about what they do. 2. Both Vets are phenomenal. Dr. Mary O'Grady was who I saw first (although, I was told by many people they trust & love both vets so they book with either based on availability). This is so helpful & allows for more flexibility for those with busy schedules. 3. The way they schedule appointments is so efficient & personable. What I mean is that when you drive up you are the only one at that time. It is like a personal dedicated hospital (front desk, Vet time, and check out) for you & your pets. 4. The prices will not BREAK the bank and are soooo reasonable for the care & attention. I had put off professional vet brushing of my feline babies because I was petrified of them not waking up from the anesthesia; especially my older cats (not even being dramatic as I cancelled at other vets in TX multiple times). You can see I am a handful and full of anxiety. The staff here IMMEDIATELY gave me positive vibes & for the FIRST time in years, I let my felines "go under" for cleaning by Dr. O'Grady. They were patient (the amazing Tech & Dr. O'Grady) with me by explaining the expected process, timing, and after care...multiple times. They also called me the second the surgery / cleaning was over to inform me that my kitties were out & did amazing. They send you home with personalized instructions & personable notes about each animal. This is truly an amazing facility and we are so lucky to have them here in Louisville!!! Thank you Barbour Lane Animal Hospital! The reviews from our wonderful Yelp Community & client referrals speak for themselves on this amazing facility!! Trust all the positive reviews & you will not be dissapointed.
