So word of mouth for Michael Calabrese is doing well. When you find a good accountant, it doesn't matter where their office is situated. You will travel if it means your tax and business if done right. The people who recommended my accountant were business owners. So I knew that their opinions where valid. Business owners generally test Accountants out a bit more than the general consumer. I have been going to Michael for around 5 years now. He is good at what he does and fast. My tax returns are never really complicated. But he has always surprised me with my returns. I guess every situation is different, but I have always left his office with a smile. Michael is efficient and he will ask the right questions. Previously I have been caught out by overworked Accountants from big firms that just look at you as a number. That is not the case with Michael, he takes his time to ensure everything is covered. I will continue recommending him and everyone that I have sent to him have always been happy.

So why not give those accountants looking for their next something to do? Rawson Verco are efficient, easy to use and helpful (when asked). I send off my tax receipts with a simple form that has been tick boxed and signed and poof I get some money sent to me by the government a few months later. If only making more money were that easy! I recently sought some tax advice from these guys though and wasn't amazed by their knowledge in what I could and couldn't claim on the spot but I was assured I would be notified of any answers that I wasn't given. I was also really appreciative of the friendliness and helpfulness of service. In the middle of a tax conversation their Financial Planner came down for free and gave me some additional home owners advice. Overall these guys have been my accountants for 3 years and I have always been happy with their service.

The office was in fact tiny, and there were just two very lovely ladies working there. I was a few months late with my tax, okay, about 6 months late. I'd never used an accountant before, because I've never had complicated tax. Thankfully the lady who helped me out was so fantastic that I wondered what I'd been worried about. She explained why she was doing anything, didn't bat an eyelid when I searched for receipts in my emails (printer broke) and was also helpful with any questions I had. From the sounds of things they're a tiny bit more expensive than some, but if you're getting it back on tax it won't make too much of a difference.

Not all financial organisations have actively recruited the sort of staff who will willingly volunteer their time to do something in a community spirit, but the often maligned KPMG actually see this as a major asset in their business and I have to agree. Too easy to point the finger and say "Multinational company... they must be bad," without knowing the deeper facts. The business does a range of things and not just philanthropic gestures; they advise people and companies with their tax mainly and they do audits and other financial services. Their main thrust is working towards being part of the greater good in the community which I think is very respectable. I can testify that they've allowed their rather posh offices to be used for meetings by one middle sized theatre company free of charge, and haven't expected anything in return at all. This may seem like nothing to you, but it actually is a cost saver for the local theatre company because it means meetings of this nature can be held at a time more convenient to the various people involved due to the central position in the city and, well, a few other things that can add up like chilled water and air conditioning and that has a positive impact on the budget; I have these folk in my very 'good' books! Their work and business ethic seems very good. I think they are leaders in their field.
