I registered for classes here. Not really impressed.. They are taking forever to process financial aid. Almost impossible to get classes. Response times are terrible. Have to wait two weeks to get to talk to a counsellor for some direction. Wanted to go to the food bank here but you need an ID. No ID, no food. Not liking anything so far. read more

Great college serving the central coast. Although I will admit when I was looking to transfer to a University the counselors at the time didn't know how to guide me and when I told them I wanted to transfer to San Diego State University I was simply told that they didn't think I would get in because it's competitive. No mention of my grades or path just a simple up front barrier, that became my motivating factor to figure out the transfer requirements on my own and apply. Long story short I got into SDSU, graduated with a Bachelors, I later went back and got an MBA then took a 7 hear hiatus and received a second Masters Degree from the University of Southern California. I am giving five stars because I'm sure Counselors by now know how to help kids, or at least I'm hoping, and for the fact that the college and the classes were wonderful. I highly recommend it. I now work as a Healthcare Operations Executive and it started with Allan Hancock. I was able to afford classes with my McDonalds Salary at the time. We came to give a lecture in a class on meditation. The campus is elongated, and we knew about where to park. We asked for help finding a building and were helped by a kind student. We entered the building and were helped again by a very nice student. We went to the admin office and again were greeted ba a cheerful happy front desk. In the class the students were so attentive and asked good questions. What a wonderful example of a Community College. Wow read more

Allan Hancock College has been going through A LOT of renovation over the last few years, and it finally seems to be coming to a close, hopefully with the next school year? The new administration building was build, and the old has been torn down and will be more parking for students. As far as the staff, there's always going to be good and bad. I would check www.ratemyprofessor.com usually has pretty good and accurate feedback. I myself have been lucky enough to have great teachers this far. Guidance counselors are equally aware of policies and helpful when it comes to pointing you in the right direction. Overall, the campus is nice, the staff are chill, and it's not too huge so you can get from one end to the other relatively quick. Enjoy being a student here, it'll suit just find to get my education. read more

I am a proud 2011 graduate of Allan Hancock College. If it wasn't for this school, I would not have been motivated to finish my education. My teachers were inspirational, my EOPS counselor was amazing and I couldn't have asked for someone better. The atmosphere is laid back, the students are friendly, and I feel like I received the best possible education here. There were plenty of classes and the ASBG club tried everything within their power to make it a fun place with multiple and inspiring activities! Not only that, but the college is surrounded by awesome restaurants like olive garden and in-n-out, so you don't have to buy food on campus or worry about bringing a lunch. I will ALWAYS remember my experience here, and the tears of joy I had when I walked across the stage during graduation. This was written by my daughter, currently a PHD candidate at Miami University, Comp/Rhet/digital and woman's studies AHC still stands as one of the finest institutions of my long and winding academic journey; like a lot of folks in my hometown, I was lucky enough to complete my studies there on a fee waiver for low income students. Lucky to learn from engaged professors and adjuncts who never treated me like I did not possess just as much potential as any four year college student. I was lucky enough to be granted priority transfer to university through Hancock's CSU admissions program. And I was perhaps most lucky to teach reading and writing there years later for some of the brightest, most hardworking and determined students I've ever met. I couldn't be more proud or less surprised that Hancock is being recognized yet again for faculty excellence, service to our community, and job/academic success of students! If you want better quality of teaching and a nicer location go to Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo! They have a MUCH higher transfer rate; their professors are top notch! read more

I'm an attending student here..first semester. So far I like it..I'm going for RN. I know that it will take a long time for me to finish but this is the only college I found that has RN program that isn't far from home. I like the teachers and I'm only attending part time at night from 6:30-8:30pm. The only thing that so far I don't like is if you take an English class you have to attend the "writing center " you have to do 1hr and 45 mins in there for each week. But they give you a big packet of work you have to do at the writing center and each week you have to do a certain amount of work. Trust me...it does not take 1 hour and 45 min to finish the assignments..it takes you longer!! So technically it is like an extra class..I came part time because I don't have much time cuz I work full time to over time and with the writing center it feels like I'm taking 3 classes instead of 2.. When you are done with an assignment then you have to write your name on a paper on a clipboard and wait til someone comes check your work and signs you off. When I'm done with my work I write my name then I wait for an hour and then finally its my turn then the instructor comes check at my work..and if you have some answers wrong or you didn't do it right (the instructions on the packet they give you are not helpful sometimes) then the instructor tells you that u did it wrong and you have to re do it..when you re do it you have to sign ur name again on the clipboard and wait another hour til someone comes check your work again...I honestly think its worthless and I don't really learn from the writing center. I wish we didn't have to do the writing center and just focus on our English class alone that is not easy because we have essays to do all the time and instead of going to the writing center and wasting the little time I have there I could be working on my essays rather than the assignments from the writing center...I wish there was a private college near by that has RN program read more

I loved going here for my two years. I got into the university I wanted right after. The counselors were great in helping, the teachers were good, and I made life long friends. The dance department is the best. I love the new look of the campus. There's great student involvement both on campus and in the community. I feel like after attending here, my academic levels prepared me for further education. read more

The school is fine. Gets you the degree you need. But 0/5 stars for the counseling department. It is like trying to contact a dead relative. Better off just tossing a coin into a wishing well and hoping for a reply. Common Hancock counseling, get it together. read more

This school does not care about their students. They (the counselors) make you take classes you don't need and the people at the front desks are rude and short tempered. I was registered and accepted into chem120 for summer '19. When I got to the class, over 6 people on the waitlist were given add codes, this made the class overbooked. There were not enough seats in the lab and the waitlisted kids were given assigned chairs before me. I was forced to drop the class because of no seating, no partner and the teacher not willing to accommodate more students. This was unfair as I should have been put before the waitlist students as I was accepted into the class before it even started. Now I cannot register for any classes this summer as they are all closed. I will have to wait 2 semesters until I will be able to take chemistry now. When this issue was brought to the administrations attention they were unwilling to help and Vincent Tobin, the department chair, was extremely rude when I expressed my concerns. Do not go here if you can help it. read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. This has nothing to do with the teaching staff, each instructor is different, some better some worse. But the employees who work here who are supposed to "help" you among admissions, the book store, and even counseling are down right RUDE and USELESS to the student population. I have attended courses at this school for 3 years part time while working, am very kind and polite, and have gotten nothing but disrespect by adult employees at this school. I would recommend CUESTA any day. Do NOT send your children here after high school. read more
