I love this library except for the parking lot. It is narrow and this branch gets very busy so it's…read morehard to find parking at times. Other than that it's a newer building that's clean and well kept up. They have a drop box l outside that is perfect to just run up and dump and get out of that hairy lot. They also have rooms that you can rent for non profit meetings. It's free of charge and they are set up with tables and chairs. They have a large selection of books movies CD's and a good children's area. There are plenty of computers too. Printing things is easy but they do charge for each page printed. That's kinda pricey but hey if you're deprecate. Highly recommend.

Here I attended a genealogy presentation. It cost me nothing, it started on time, and I learned a lot from the knowledgeable presenter. I feel interested in learning more about the Genealogy Center's international collection of physical and digital resources and free access to databases.

I was challenged to confirm that an ancestor was the granddaughter of a Rev. War veteran. After weeks of searching, I wasn't having any luck to find acceptable docs and my mentor in the DAR is fantastic but this stumped her too. Census rolls and marriage licenses weren't enough. I met with Jeff Garver, a genealogist at the Allen County Public Library. Before my arrival, he had already done some research and he provided much help, but we still needed definitive proof of the lineage. Then he suggested checking an 1800s "Deed Book" from Monroe County, where my ancestors primarily lived. In the book, Jeff found a deed written by the parents of my 3rd Great-grandmother where they sold property to their daughter. The deed document is witnessed and signed by the magistrate of the time and clearly identifies the parents of my ancestor (of whom both respective fathers fought in the Rev. War) as their daughter. It was like bells went off, and hopefully the final piece of the puzzle for my DAR application. I never would have thought of looking at deeds and now know why the Allen County Public Library and its Genealogy Dept. are so highly regarded. Am so appreciative to have such an excellent research source in Indiana with equally excellent professionals. We would go to the children's reading club, did a craft and had a snack afterwards. My children are all older now pre teens & teens, they've joined the summer read programs, available to win prizes. The library staff is always hosting events and or going to events. Always so fun at the library.

I travel around the city a lot, and I often find myself popping into libraries to spend time and…read morelook for resources. The Auburn building is a great library space -- it's a shame it can't be replicated in more areas of the city. The foyer is open and warm, with a statue of the branch's namesake keeping safe watch over the books. I'm always blown away by the amount of light that is filtered into the space through large windows, a feature that makes this library all the more inviting to both adult and child. The layout is wonderful (for a city the size of Auburn), with separate areas for children, (and story time), older children, and teens, with "suggestions" to guide reluctant readers. This branch always seems to have an abundance to documentaries and CDs, as well as a healthy collection of graphic novels. On top of the friendly staff at the front, there is a second resource/help desk in the middle of the library, between the fiction and non-fiction shelves, to help any library or technology newbies. I think a lot of libraries should follow the footsteps of AC PL. You can put holds on different library items and they'll bring it to this library. Unfortunately, this library is rather small so if you're just perusing the aisle, you may not find the things that you want so plan ahead. The other downside is the parking lot gets a little crazy at time so be careful of cars backing out. I have almost seen multiple accidents from patrons not paying attention as they back out of their cars.

Everything about the areas to study/sit is great: The color…read morescheme*, the variety of seat/table options, the access to outlets, the view (big windows, view of mastodon statue), the comfort of the seats, the cleanliness, the friendliness of the staff... The connector bridge area is very cool too. *I'm sure it was a bummer for the school to re-do the library and Kettler in blues just before changing the school colors, but I don't mind because they look great in the blue color schemes.

I recently moved to the outskirts of Huntington and paid for a years access to this library (my…read moretownship doesn't pay into the supporting taxes) and it's well worth it. They have a large book & CD collection, a big genealogy section (even includes some ref's on my home state of NJ), and LOTS of kid areas and activity. The books are relatively new and current. I was originally thinking it'd be mostly a means of getting inter-library loan books, but turns out it's amazing! They even have a "food" area up front so you can bring lunch or celebrate a birthday. Wow ! !
