Words cannot fully express how talented Allen Tsai is. My husband and I are not used to being professionally photographed, so we chose Allen based on his stellar reviews. He did not disappoint! My best advice would be to trust him and his skills as a photographer implicitly. 1. He gives plenty of direction in terms of body placement, posture, hand placement, etc. to give you flawless photos. If you are new to being photographed like me, you'll find this kind of direction extremely helpful and comforting. 2. At the same time, he creates a very calm, light, and fun atmosphere that creates true, genuine moments between you and your significant other. We are two people that usually feel very uncomfortable in front of a camera, however we had such an enjoyable experience with Allen. 3. I really encourage anyone using Allen's services to listen to his recommendations. For example, our original scheduled date was cloudy and overcast. He recommended that we wait for sun if we truly wanted to be happy with our photos. We are so grateful to have listened to him, because the results were wonderful (see attached). Allen was one of the best decisions I made for my wedding, only second to saying yes to my fiancé :D I met Allen years ago and I knew I would be hiring him for my wedding. Allen is the best. When we were searching for a wedding photographer to document the most important day of our life we stumbled upon Allen since he was ranked #1 on a lot of lists for DFW wedding photographers. Although his prices were a bit higher than our original budget, we decided to meet him to learn more about him. Our first impressions were that Allen was very professional and clearly a master of his arts. We had interviewed multiple other photographers, but Allen was clearly a cut above the rest. He impressed us so much that we decided to go ahead with him despite going over our initially planned budget. This would later turn out to be one of the best decisions we made in the entire wedding. Allen is different than a lot of photographers in that he uses film in conjunction with his digital camera. Film has that unique feel to it that's hard to describe with words, but just looks so magical. Allen's secret power is that he's able to tell stories through his photos. My wife and I have never done a professional shoot before, but Allen made the experience very comfortable by directing us on what we need to do. For the engagement shoot we got rained our like 3 times in a row and Allen was patient each time since he wanted us to have the best photos possible. We also had to post-pone our wedding one time due to COVID and Allen was understanding and allowed us to move the date without additional charges. On the day of the wedding, Allen scouted the entire venue looking for places where we could take photos. He was there to capture every special moment and we thank him for that. My first experience with Allen Tsai was when he photographed my sister's wedding. My sister herself, is a photographer. The second time I heard his name was at my best friend's wedding. HER photographer had also used Allen Tsai for her wedding. I decided to take some time and followed Allen's presence on social media and the internet. Turns out he's VERY decorated and has been featured a lot in publications. His clients are worldwide, and all the photographers I respect want HIM for the THEIR weddings. If he's the professional that all the other professionals use, I knew I was never going to entertain any other photographer. The second I got engaged, I told my wedding planner we had to secure Allen. And that's what we did. THANK GOD because it takes a special photographer to handle everything an everyone that was, My Wedding. I got married in Downtown Dallas and my wedding had very "city" vibes. I didn't want to have every "conventional" wedding party shot, and so I had tasked Allen with the burden of making my wedding photos look like "something off the cover of Vanity Fair." Not typically his route for weddings, and also confined to a VERY tight timeline, somehow, Allen was able to execute my vision. More than that, every shot from the reception is PERFECT. The lighting was consistent in every shot (and let me tell you, the lights from the stage and darkness of the room was all over the place that night). He captured beautiful portraits, but also grabbed very intimate moments between myself and my husband, our friends, and our family - shots that we didn't know anyone was watching. The photos were edited and turned in record time (amazing considering he shoots digitally AND in film) and the gallery of proofs was enormous. This was so important because I've heard HORROR stories from friends whose galleries were pitifully small since the photographer didn't have very good content to return. The gallery is easy to use navigate and he even offers printing services (huge if your local pharmacy does a bad job with prints). Here is my biggest jaw-drop of the experience: Allen worked alone. My wedding had around 225 guests and you would have thought (based on the photos) that he had at least two assistants. Finally, Allen is also just awesome to work with. Allen is absolutely amazing! You don't need to look any further if you're meeting with any photographers...he's it. I've been in six weddings not including my own and although I've seen a lot of very good pictures from these weddings none can compare to the quality of pictures Allen takes, not to mention the amount of fun and warmth he brings to your day. Being photographed for an entire day was very odd for my husband and I, we didn't know how to pose or what to do but Allen coached us and our photographs are absolutely stunning! You never really think about the moments you'll be spending with the person taking photographs until your day comes but he's in on some of the most intimate situations of wedding day (your mother helping you get dressed, your father seeing you dressed for the first time, etc.). You know these things are going to happen but the emotion of the day is very different from anything you'd expect and you want someone who is able to capture these moments without being invasive. You also want someone who can control a crowd without being a jerk. I cannot tell you how many times I've been yelled at by a photographer when I was a bridesmaid (usually it really was my fault but its still annoying)...Allen was very good at crowd control without yelling and screaming which is extremely hard in my case because my family is insane. Not only did Allen photograph my wedding, but he was the photographer for my best friend's wedding as well in which I was the maid of honor. Allen's photos speak for themselves - he shoots film (but also digital, mostly indoors and evening) which means the photos have such a dreamy, romantic quality to them that simply can't be replicated with Photoshop. His Instagram page and website say it all. What really impressed me, though, was his attitude and professionalism. I was super stressed out trying to plan my wedding in 3 months. At the time, I found Allen on google. I went through his portfolio and I fell in love with his work. One of many things I noticed about Allen is that he's not only loved by his brides and grooms but adored and trusted by the Dallas wedding industry vendors and people. This is how I could tell of a business owner's true character and personality- he's loved by the people who work with him during a short period of time and others who work with him over many years in the city. He has a solid network anyone can rely on, he's very generous with his time and work, and his ability to see the details is amazing. His professionalism and caring heart shows through prompt email responses no matter how busy he is (crazy wedding season + a second child delivery didn't stop him from taking care of his old clients), a huge canvas print we received after engagement shooting, a nice hand-written thank you note from him after our wedding with a lovely wooden box full of prints and USB drive with everything in it. I should be sending him a thank you for all the hard work he did during the wedding instead. Let's talk about Allen's artistic skills since that's what comes down to when you get your wedding photos (Am I right?). As you all can tell from his portfolio, his lighting work is something you can't get from just any photographer, it captures the airy, whimsical feeling together with strong structure and strength in them. All of his pictures are so beautiful, authentic and you'll be surprised how lovely you look through his camera lenses. My chapel had one huge window that allowed lots of light to enter but it was bad when you take pictures with our back turned against it because it would made our faces look very dark. Allen's pictures came out so well I couldn't be more proud of Allen for making everything work so wonderfully despite different challenges. So many friends and family members complimented of how awesome his pictures look (we knew how difficult it was for some of us with our iPhones) and how thorough he was with our family portraits and group pictures after the ceremony. My dad has been a long time MIA parent and he's always very awkward around the rest of the family, Allen didn't just push shutter buttons through the family portrait session, he made sure my dad was closer to the rest of the group if he was a bit far from everyone else and corrected anyone with awkward hand/feet position even though he was under a time crunch. Allen did photos for our multi cultural (Indian-Lao) wedding which comprised of multiple events over two days. He is very talented, creative and humble person. We had numerous of great shots from our wedding events, and trash the dress session. All our friends and family members were in awe once they saw the photos, because each photo was to perfection, and each shot told us something about the wedding, and the entire album gave us memory of life time. Allen was by far one of the best vendors we choose for our wedding day. I can't emphasize how much of a talented, friendly, and hardworking photographer he is. I know this review will be long, but I cannot say enough good about Allen. I was very overwhelmed when I began looking for photographers to capture our wedding day. I was abroad at the time, so it became difficult to communicate with vendors back home. However, Allen instantly responded to my emails and provided me with so much relevant information that I just had a great feeling he was perfect for us. I had the wonderful opportunity to model in a shoot with Allen while I was in Italy and I am so glad he allowed me to do so. Not only is he so fun to work with, but I noticed how much more comfortable I was in front of the camera when he photographed my bridal session and when my fiancé and I did our engagements when I returned home. Finding a good wedding photographer was one of our top priorities when planning our May wedding in Los Angeles,CA. We first found Allen Tsai on Yelp, actually, because that is always the first place I look online when I needed reviews on a vendor. After reading so many five star reviews that the other brides had written about Allen on The Knot, we knew we had to meet him in person and book him immediately! ( He is VERY popular in Dallas....LOL) Since my husband and I have just moved from Los Angeles to Dallas months before our wedding, we really wanted to find a wedding photographer who is professional and has a fun personality. I can't say enough about how amazing Allen is! We were referred to him by one of my bridesmaids, so we knew how great his work was, but getting to do the engagement session and wedding with him was such a wonderful experience :) We did our engagement pictures in Chicago during January and Allen was such a trooper about doing our outside photos in below freezing temperatures! They were beautiful pictures with the Chicago skyline, the Bean, in Union Station and some in our apartment. The city is a big part of our relationship and Allen captured it perfectly. He knew exactly how to make the most of each setting, the lighting, and how to position us to compose some incredible pictures. He used a combination of film and digital, so we loved having both options. It was the first time my husband and I had ever done a photo session, and Allen's warm personality and friendliness made it a very comfortable and enjoyable experience! Allen is incredibly professional as well. Our wedding was at St. Patrick Cathedral in Fort Worth and the reception was at the Ashton Depot. Our wedding day was full of surprises including a rain storm, some last minute changes in portrait location, and an unplanned picture request for my entire extended family (about 100 people)! We also went with a second photographer for the ceremony and to take pictures of the venue prior to the reception. Where do I start? I have all amazing things to say about my wedding photographer, Allen Tsai. He was recommended to me by a friend, and after checking out his website, I decided to meet with him. He was so cordial and personable, and I knew those were desirable qualities to have in a photographer. Learning that he has a Ph.D. in neuroscience but is a wedding photographer really made an impression on me - it told me that he absolutely LOVES his work and is living his dream...which was a very good sign that he would do a fabulous job. Plus, it was helpful getting a personal recommendation. After our meeting I was still checking out other photographers, but I kept coming back to Allen. After seeing photos from a wedding in September that he shot at my church, and talking with him about pricing, the deal was sealed - we were DEFINITELY going with Allen!! (My husband was deployed to Afghanistan at the time, so he did not meet Allen until our wedding day but trusted my judgment.) We did a bridal portrait shoot at the Meyerson Symphony, and I'm glad we did that because I was very tense in front of the camera at first. He had never shot at the Meyerson before but the photos are fabulous and he knew how to get me in the moment. Our wedding day was Monday, April 7th at St. Michael's Catholic Church in McKinney, followed by our reception at The Bingham House. Allen did everything right: he was on time and professional, he got beautiful formal portraits of me and my family where everyone's eyes were open (this is a problem with my family, having closed eyes), he captured the little moments so naturally, and I even had family members commenting on how detail-oriented Allen was, yet was able to stay out of the way as well. While he was photographing our rings outside in the courtyard, my brothers and friends decided they wanted to do a choreographed Bavarian folk dance (which I didn't know was going to happen, and so neither did Allen). But all at once, he was there inside again, snapping away with his camera. My husband and I didn't do a send-off, and at the very end when almost everyone had left, I realized that I'd forgotten to get a formal picture with my childhood friend who had sung at the ceremony! Allen had already put away his equipment, but graciously took it out again to snap a couple photos of us. When my husband and I looked at our gallery, my cheeks were sore afterwards because of smiling so much. I couldn't have asked for more beautiful wedding photos!!! Pictures really are the only material thing you bring back from the wedding, and every penny we paid Allen was totally worth it and then some. I encourage other brides to NOT skimp on this area - and, to choose Allen Tsai Photography! He even travels all over the world, so you do not have to be in the north Texas area to use his services.
