I was just really let down by the service here. Online they indicated they were open during the pandemic, so I drive to the address listed on their website in downtown Chicago. No small feat in the summer of 2020. But they were shut up tight. So I left town without the pastries I so desperately wanted to try. On my way home a week later I'm heading to the airport, and decide to call this time to see if they are open. I call the number on the website, right above the address on State Street. Someone answers and says they are open. I say I tried stopping by a week earlier and they were closed, and he just starts listing their hours. Which included when I stopped by. No apology or questions, just lists the hours. Ok... So I head over to the address below the phone number I called...and they are not open! I call again and he tells me I'm at the Pattisserie, not the bakery. That's useful information when I call and say I went to your location and it was closed in the middle of the day, and the phone number for the Pattisserie connects to the phone at a different location, and your online site, updated in March, claims the location is open. Anyway, I finally make it to the bakery. After waiting outside for a while (only one person allowed in at a time) I get in. I tell the kid working there that they should update website...and he laughs! No, it's not a joke. It's a serious business recommendation. I order and he asks if he can get me anything else. I said he could throw in a free cookie (like $2) for the trouble I went to driving twice to a closed location, and he laughed again. That's a pretty neglectful way to treat customers. Especially when I spent $60+ on trying several different pastries. A free cookie would have gone a long way toward good will. Even an apology, which would have been free. Too bad. I am speechless of what this amazing bakery did for me, not once but twice! My mom is from Texas and I wanted to do something big for her 80th birthday I always like to outdo myself in getting cakes made for her. I sent them a picture of what I wanted and they blew me away, they were able to put the Texas flag on the cake and add the rest of the cowboy accessories. Experience: Note: This review was completed during COVID restrictions and therefore a limited interaction was with the staff. With that said, it was my girlfriend's birthday and I wanted to give her something really nice since we were limited to celebrating. At the end, it was surely not a disappointment. Parking: It appears that metered street parking is located in front of the business. If you do not mind walking, there is free parking located within side streets. But if you are simply just picking up an order, you can just put in hazards real quick and grab it, especially if you already paid. Worth: Alliance Bakery was very professional. At that time we decided one of their cakes was an imperative when planning a future celebration. We perused their cake gallery on the Alliance website. So many gorgeous cakes that we found it difficult to choose. Since she is now in Chicago we decided to go with a Chicago skyline silhouetted against a sunset. It's a small cute place with heavy and beautiful granite tables. You can sit by the window and see the garden. We ordered a couple of macaroons and croissants. Also, do try their latte. It's fabulous! They prepare it within minutes and it wont hurt your tongue. We had a pistachio macaroon which had a delicious hint of fennel. Also, the rose buttercream in the pink macaroon is just perfect! Before going there, of course I read their online reviews and rating and both are really good. The Patisserie has a full espresso bar and varieties of croissants. I had a ham and cheese and Debarshi had a chocolate filled. They also bake fresh muffins everyday and the best thing, they are not overpriced. You can get a plain croissant for $2.50. The Ham and Cheddar is priced at $4.50 and the macaroons for $2.25. I loved their macaroons. They are so bright in color with the perfect taste and amount of filling. The texture was very light yet it had crunch. I would recommend you not to go for the classics like hazelnut praline but to try some crazy flavors like we did. We went there on a weekday so the place was nice and quiet. I guess it gets pretty packed up during weekends and office hours. Good for us, we were staying in Chicago downtown so this bakery was at a walking distance from our hotel. But even if you are not staying nearby this place is worth going. Just go there, sit by the big window, look at the garden, read a book or work on your laptop and enjoy the delicious sweet and savory treats with a cup of hot coffee. read more

No response. When called they said they usually respond the week before. Guess what response I get! I was looking for a nice pasty shop and Alliance Bakery was close my hotel. I ordered a Tiramisu, Anne and croissant and after one bite of Tiramisu, I could tell the Tiramisu must be there for days. There is no espresso flavor on the ladyfingers and, Yes, it is not fresh and cream is neither moist nor soft. Anne looks appetizing and flavor of Anne is really nice but it is dry and you can tell they are not fresh. We hired Alliance Bakery for our cake and mini desserts for our wedding in June. Our 4 tier wedding cake had different flavors and fillings for each tier. The almond and hazelnut cake were our favorites! For fillings we had combinations of raspberry preserves, strawberry preserves, and white chocolate mouse. The cake was absolutely beautiful! For mini desserts we ordered raspberry macaroons, strawberry macaroons, and red velvet cupcakes..they all were a hit! My husband and I did notice after the fact that the design was a little off from what we decided upon. We had requested ribbon around the cake board and gold flaking. As the picture shows, there was ribbon around each tier, and no gold flaking. This bakery makes my absolute favorite cakes in all of Chicagoland. I usually get the vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream, all covered in sprinkles. The cake itself tastes incredible and is light with a perfect vanilla sweetness. The icing is also great, light, and not too sweet. I could easily eat a whole cake by myself. I also recently tried a couple of cupcakes, the red velvet and pumpkin spice. The red velvet was great with soft cream and moist cake but I didn't enjoy the pumpkin spice as the cake was quite hard and flavorless. My sister also tried the tiramisu and said it was really good. This review is specifically for only the macarons. Overall, I would give Alliance 3.5 stars. I love macarons and visiting Chicago had me on the search for some macarons! I ran into Alliance Bakery while walking through Wicker Park. After seeing that sign that said "Macarons," I knew that I had to get some! If you purchase 5 macarons, they'll start putting it into the cute little boxes. Otherwise, it comes in a little bag. I tried the three macarons that I thought were not the normal ones you could find anywhere. Pina Colada - This beautiful, sunshine yellow macaron tickled my taste buds and made me smile. It was phenomenal! The texture was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I love the surprise bit of pineapple jam in the very center. You could taste the pineapple in this without it being too overpowering. The macaron was light and so refreshing. Key Lime - This alien green macaron did have a nice tartness to it. The only downside was the texture. The key lime was so underbaked and just fell apart when I bit into it. It was way too wet on the inside. If it was baked right, I think this macaron could have been a hit. It wasn't too sweet but not too tart either. Chocolate Passion Fruit - I've never seen this macaron flavor so I was really interested. It's yellow with a dusting of cocoa powder on top. I didn't mind the powder, but it did leave my mouth a little dry. I think it could have used a little less cocoa powder on top. In contrast with the key lime, this macaron was unfortunately overbaked. The inside was very dry. However, the passion fruit shell was delicious and I did like the richness of the chocolate cream inside. The problem with the macarons here are not the flavors, just the texture. The consistency of doneness is a little off. Pricing is fine with the macarons being about $2 each. Service was great, the guy was really patient and friendly. This bakery has some amazing cakes on display, as well as some awesome treats in the display case! The slices of cakes, tarts and cookies looked scrumptious! Maybe next time I'll get those. If this place shipped across states, I would probably order a dozen Pina Colada macarons because they were just so good. read more
