Whenever I am queuing with my pint of milk, one of the staff will ask the following - how is the family/how is business/how is the love life? (answer; great/ok/not so great). Because my name is Cari, one of the guys would give me DVDs of Carry on films when I came in. Cari -Carry -geddit? So, apart from the great owners, for a convenience store, it is pretty comprehensive. If you want fancy veg or a cheese with a French name, I would get thee to Tescos', but this is great for booze, sweets and snacks,and all those non fancy essentials. There is also a coffee and sandwich corner in part of the shop. The food is done by the next door cafe, 5 At The Bridge, so its good.

As with…read moreothers of its ilk, it has its uses when you run out of something unexpectedly, or don't fancy a full-on trip to the supermarket. This shop is probably most popular for its off-licence selection although there is also a reasonable, if limited, choice of household goods and store cupboard items - along with dried fruits and nuts for snacking, or midnight munchies. It's usually open until around 11pm. I enjoy popping-in here when the charming owner is around but his other businesses keep him too occupied for that on a regular basis.

A fairly recent addition to the High Street, it's a useful address for last minute necessities or…read morecravings. Unlike many 'corner' shops (it's in the middle of the high street), it has a clean, fresh feel and a pretty good range of food, snacks, kitchen and bathroom supplies - along with a decent selection of newspapers and magazines. I happily found one of my favourite, good-quality, high-cocoa-solid chocolate bars here (not always easy to come-by). Together with some bottled-water, it neatly filled the gap, when I was at the nearby Rose Theatre (mere yards away) and unable to get through the queues at the bar, in time for the second half. Helpfully, they are open 24 hours (a novelty in the area) but bear in mind they don't have an alcohol licence.
