The good thing about IML is that their classes cater to adults who work during the day and can only come to class during the evening. They also offer a huge number of languages--around 30--but if studying one of the less-popular languages, you may not find classes at your level. A year-long course will set you back around $460, with classes based on the university semester. Not a bad place to study a language, but for me studying French, I think I'd prefer Alliance Francaise for their broader range of classes.

When I went to Europe last year I spent much more time there than expected and now have a huge appreciation for the Italian way of life. So naturally when I came home one of the first things I did was sign up to learn the language. The Dante Alighieri Society is the best place in Brisbane to do so. I trudged along to my first lesson, which took place in their head quarters in Newmarket, I was pleased to know that the other people in my class (there were about 10 of us) didn't speak a work of the language. The class were a mix of young and old and everyone had their own reasons for learning. Some people had married into Italian families and wanted to converse with their in-laws, some people were moving there to live, and others like me just wanted to be able to go back and speak with the locals without feeling like a complete twit. I began to get to know the people in my Preparatorio (preparatory) class well, and by the end of our course it was a little sad to say goodbye. The course was a school semester long and was very reasonable in price considering the excellent tuition received. Including the annual enrollment, tuition fees and the society membership it was $370 in total and it allowed me to partake in all of the society events like going to see lectures on Italian culture, fashion shows, Opera and nights at the society where everyone would watch an Italian film together while the ladies of the society would cook a feast (and then perhaps try and set you up with their sons and nephews). I can't rave about my experience with the Dante Alighieri Society enough. I learnt so much and met so many lovely people and the teachers were exceptional. I look so forward to having some time off to step up to the Elementare level. If you're interested in learning a second language in a casual, fun and social environment then I would seriously consider giving the Dante Alighieri Society a call.

Theatre and Dance is one of the best performing arts schools in Brisbane! Having only discovered…read morethem in my adult years, I only wish that I had been sent as a kid to learn how to sing, dance and act by the amazing teachers Theatre and Dance have to offer. The dance school is in an industrial area of Coorpooroo and is an absolutely huge warehouse space with a theatre and six rehearsal rooms. Classes are available in singing and dancing for tiny tots all the way up to adults, so stop singing into your hair brush in front of you mirror and give these guys a call! I've rehearsed for shows at Theatre and Dance as well as taken singing and dancing classes with some of the teachers, and I must say I've never been disappointed. The little kids who learn at the studio all seem so happy and there's absolutely no Toddlers & Tiaras parents running around spraying hairspray in someone's eyes. I would highly recommend Theatre & Dance to anyone who has little kids or teenagers who are interested in the performing arts. It has a great family feel and the staff are brilliant.

I remember St John's College most fondly due to the annual Jazz night it hosts. This ball included…read moremany college kids and friends of those living at John's in fancy suits and cocktail dresses while the St John's Jazz band played and everyone was just sophisticated and merry (at least until the kick on). St John's is one of many co-educational university housing colleges on campus at the University of Queensland St Lucia. It is a little bit fancier than most, with well sized rooms, nice gardens, and an iconic clock tower. The college is great if you are in any way drama or musically inclined, with plenty of music rooms, pianos and support for such endeavors. I have heard that their O-Week can be pretty tough for some, since their exec (the 2nd and 3rd years looking after the freshmen) have some interesting traditions but I am assured that this just helps bond the freshmen and that after this week all is good.

I cant recommend their system highly enough as the change in our sons confidence compared to the home tutor the year before came as was quite a shock. We we're a bit scared by how much it cost as we paid in full for the course but we got a guarantee that if he didn't get caught up by the end of term then they would continue to tutor him at their cost which he didn't need but was nice to know it was there.

It's clean and new and neat, but best of all, my friend's son was failing year 6 mathematics and after two terms here he scored an A. The downside is it's much more expensive than finding remedial help yourself privately; often if you can find a uni student willing to tutor, it would be about half the price of attending Fruition Tuition, but then again, whatever works is the best solution and it's great to have this option in the Manly area.

I finished high school a nervous wreck, I wasn't sure about uni and didn't want to spend the equivalent of a home loan trying to find out if it was right for me. So I headed to the Southbank campus, I can't get over just how friendly and understanding the staff members are here. I was lead through the process and enrolled in a day. The fee's seem really reasonable for what you are getting back in return and its one of the best hands on technical colleges in Brisbane. The universities are also taking note, and so partnerships are flourishing between the two. This is good news for us, because getting a university pathway after a Tafe vocation is now easier than ever. So if you're young or old, just finished high school or need a new career I recommend you head to their website and check out their courses. You never know what you'll find.
