My husband, a local Minister at a small church on Long Island sadly passed away on May 2nd, 2019. I am very alone and lost but have bills and paperwork that must still be dealt with. I called Companion and after many messages left they finally called me back and told me that the money we paid was not accessible as neither one of us named the other as the executor. Now they never once brought this up when they sold us the policy. And apparently the laws had changed and again they never thought enough to contact us and tell us what we needed to do should something happen to either one of us. So now after three months have gone by I have not seen any of the money for my husbands funeral. I had to borrow money from the church recently just to finally pay the funeral home who had been patiently waiting for my insurance money to come in, but of course it never has. I am now in debt and have had to hire an attorney - who I have to pay for to try to get this money that owed me by Companion. They don't seem to care about my claim at all or the fact that they took all of our money over the years but have not covered their part of the deal. It's sort of like stealing money from old people as I am now 81 years old and have very little and have still not been given the money I am owed to finish paying off my beloved husbands funeral. I am gutted at how they have treated me, an elderly widow.

But the insurance company said they do not go by what the law enforcement report said. They said he failed to do 'evasive maneuvers'. They hit son. The high patrol says they are at fault. We had always been impressed with the service we received from our agent while living in California and so we were thrilled to connect with Larry Lucas's office out here in SC when we were getting ready to move. This last month we got in an auto accident and it's been an ordeal, to say the least. The State Farm Claims department was giving us misinformation, mixed messages, and the runaround. To say we were stressed and overwhelmed is an understatement. At the urging of a friend, I contacted Larry's office, spoke with Mackey, and asked to speak with Daniel, our usual agent and was told he was unavailable. She asked if there was something that she could help with. I explained the situation and she was very sympathetic and echoed my concerns and said that she would like to have Larry call me back and go over everything. Larry called me back shortly thereafter and proceeded to calm me down, offer reassurance, and answer my questions. Prior to calling me back, he had looked into some of the details that I mentioned and also noted concern and said that he would go to bat for us. He got me in contact with a claims manager and we are hopefully on our way to resolving this incident. For a young family with really no connections here yet, it really meant a lot to have Larry step into the protector role and help with getting everything sorted. We have felt at a disadvantage without our network back in California.
