This is the WORST of the WORST of insurance agents. Last year I bought a car, which I insured with C. Diffee because he seemed nice -over the phone. I also had a little money from my mother's estate. I bought homeowner's insurance, and paid for one year. It was a huge amount more than $5,000 for one year. I thought it was because my house is 120 yrs old, but I was about to hire some workman to work on it, and I didn't want to take a chance and get sued for a million dollars. My auto insurance was very high also, and he told me it was because I didn't have a car for a few years. He told me it would go down after a year and a half, but I am retired, and all my retired friends pay about $150. He told me there was a discount if I allow the company to deduct my auto ins from my bank, so I did that, but it was still $229.50 a month. Every penny counts when you have only $1,000 a month to live on. I often run out of food for myself before I get my next check. I was emailed by the phone company who told me they hadn't received my payment. I called them and told them the check number and the date mailed (2/25/2021), and the rep. said they didn't get it. I called my bank, and they told me it hadn't been presented for payment. I had about $350 inn the bank-I checked--the day before, so I thought it would be a month where I run low on food, so I asked the teller to tell me again how much I had. I was shocked when she said I was about $800 overdrawn. I asked her how it happened, and she said my insurance co withdrew it. I told the teller that this was a mistake, and I hoped the bank wouldn't charge me the $25 surcharge for being overdrawn. She told me her manager said they wouldn't. I called Cody Diffee, and he said it was for my homeowner's insurance. I told him that I had personally told him I couldn't afford that, anymore. He said that we had set it up for monthly payments, and that it has always been that way. I told him that he was wrong. I paid all at once in 2019, for a year coverage. When his office told me they were going to start the payments for it, more than $800 a month, I called and told him absolutely NOT. When I asked him for a refund, he left a voice mail for me which I got after office hours, saying he would return $350. I called him the next day and he said they were keeping the rest, for the month of Feb. I told him he couldn't b/c I only had $1000/ mo to live on, and auto and homeowner's insurance would cost me more than that. I have complained to the insurance commissioner, but that takes months. I have a negative $555 in my account, so when I get my next retirement check, they will take that from the $1000, leaving me with $455 for my electric, phone, water, auto ins, wi-fi, food, and medicines , as well as the $35 reconnect amt. for the phone-b/c they don't care that I have always paid. I don't have a job, so I can't qualify for a loan, which I don't have the money to pay back anyway. I can't even get my bank to sever the bank connection to the Diffee agency, b/c that costs $25.It doesn't deserve even one star!!
