Sushi with Aloha... When there multiple locations finding them is much easier said than done as I was standing right at the storefront yet I'm given locations 1.4mi away...ugh! This is the Bishoo Square amongst many other food biz but there right here and many seem to flock over for the sushi and I just needed a simple bite and though it would be a great place to check out. They do have lots of options with grab and go drinks and some pre made bentos though it was the hot box with some spam Musubi that caught my attention and decided it was the one. I believe it was 2.92 yes quite pricey and it was quite small as well but well flavored with shoyu sauce and was a nice bite with well cooked rice and tightly wrapped for transport. A very tiny shop filled with lots of options is a cool place but I couldn't wait for the sushi with the long line so this was a great option in a jiffy and cravings were tamed as well. If you're looking for decent sushi, this is not the place. But if you're craving Korean food, this is the place. They are simply trying to do too much. The menu is so massive, they need five different signs. There's poké, spam musubi, hand rolls, bento boxes, ramen... I'm surprised they don't have a dessert and boba menu. All jokes aside, the Korean kapuna who run this place are super sweet. The uncle at the register is hilarious. read more

Good place to go for lunch! I love getting their spam rolls because to me it's tastier than a spam musubi, I think because of the sushi rice and mayo lol. They're pretty quick at making the sushi and the uncle always offers side dishes. If you're in a pinch and is craving sushi (even the basic kine just spam) it's an affordable place for lunch in a time crunch. Their poke bowls are good too but it's on the thicker cut side which I don't like too much, just a personal preference. But I've been coming here often and they're good vibes and service. No seating but get tables on the outside if you're able to go during not busy hours. read more

The food isn't bad, it's good for the price! The people who work here are very friendly and wonderful which is amazing! However one of my hosomaki is coming apart, not a big deal but it should Be wrapped tighter so this doesn't happen. I went to Aloha Sushi on a Friday around lunch time after my women's health appointment. I had $20 dollars to spend. I looked over the bentos that was displayed in the warmer and noticed the salmon bentos. I opted to get a salmon bento as well as the ume maki roll. Once I received the ume maki roll I noticed that there was cucumber added to the roll. The roll wasn't sealed properly. That's okay...I was hungry. Lol. The salmon bento was okay. It was a thin slice of salmon....wish it was thicker. The long rice was delicious. The rice was a lot better once I put the shoyu sauce on top of it (which I got from work). The cost of salmon bento was around $14.00 with tax and the ume maki was $4.00 with tax. Over all the service was okay. Wish the maki sushi was more presentable instead of rush order. The ambiance was quite quiet...not many people was there when I ordered my food. read more

Not sure exactly how to describe this food tasting experience. All I can say is that something here is just. not. right. YIKES :( This place is in the bldg on Alakea Street across Fisher Hawaii Downtown. In the middle of the bldg there's a walkway into the park area. When just inside, turn right and walk toward the mountain. It's a few stores up on the right-hand side. Location out of the way... I'm not sure what it is and I can't put my finger on it but the food here just does not taste right. I wonder if it's just the water? Perhaps they need a filter on their tap water?! Idk! Whatever it is... The fresh fish doesn't taste fresh for some odd reason even tho it looks great..! Could it be the rice?! And so... The poke almost tastes right The sushi rice is not flavored right Even the plain rice does not taste right The miso soup is does not taste right The daikon is kinda crunchy but too salty and does not taste right The sea salad is tasty but there's something not right The tempura is fried straight as a needle but is kinda too thin with hardly anything inside the tempura batter The food looks terrific! Went here on Veterans Day because a lot of my fave spots were closed, and maybe I found a new fave spot. They have a variety of food from plate lunches to sushi to bentos. They also have a cooler with drinks in it that you can purchase Cheap food that you get a lot of makes this place a score. Is the food already cooked and they just take it out of a fridge and microwave it for you? Yes Does it still taste good and is worth getting? Also yes I got the Kailua pork plate and it come with the pork, a small salad, rice, tasty green vegetables(broccolini??) and some noodles. Also they put a miso soup with tofu in it with my food, which always feels nice. Fast service also makes this a good spot to have lunch at, and I think I will go here again in the future. read more

I ordered set C breakfast which includes spam but after arriving to work I open it up and I was given little smokies. I called to remedy the error but they wanted me to bring the whole breakfast back to receive spam today. Also, the lady accused me of not ordering C saying she only received orders for A (little smokies). Tried to explain that I don't eat little smokies so would not have ordered it. I could not return due to starting work on time. Tried to eat what they gave me but bacon was rubbery and tough to chew. I don't eat little smokies so that was thrown out and eggs were salty. I would not recommend this business and I will not be returning. $5.50 was not worth it. read more

Convenient location for downtown workers! After my experience here and after reading other Yelp reviews, I've concluded that the food here is good, minus the raw fish. Passed by Aloha Sushi again to see if there were any pre-made sushis left and saw that they had one left, so the owner gave me a discount again since she was close to closing time. Variety of sushi - 4 stars - Cannot expect it to be fresh since it was sitting out since lunchtime, but to give me a discount of already a reasonable price, the sushi still looked and tasted a bit fresh (was a little warm but not fishy or pasty tasting either like the ones that's out on the conveyor belts) and my kids enjoyed eating the tamago, shrimp and california roll pieces. Comes with ginger and wasabi in a small container. Service - 4 stars - Although I paid a little more than the first time I went, the lady (I think she may be the owner) is very accomodating and nice and was more personable to me as a returning customer. I normally bring my own lunch to work, but the one time I didn't, I had to go out and buy. I decided to go somewhere near my office, so Aloha Sushi it was. I was standing in line, trying to decide what to order. Finally when it was my turn, clearly I was next, this rude guy behind me started placing his order. I'm pretty timid when it comes to this but I was hoping the lady at the cashier would tell him I was next, but to my disappointment, she continued to take his order. I then ordered the Dragon Maki which on their board says $10.99 but for some reason it came out to $12.55ish... that doesn't sound right... unless they just failed to update their board or I got overcharged by a dollar. The wait was almost 10 minutes for just a roll. And when I finally got it and brought it back to the office, the maki was cut into large pieces with an uneven amount of unagi to go with each piece. For the pieces I ate without the unagi, it just felt like an overpriced Cali Maki. Nothing tasted fresh and I was left dissatisfied (and ripped off). Poor customer service, overpriced rolls and poor quality in food, I highly doubt I'll return. read more

I don't like seafood, but I love my sushi and udon. Weird? Yeah, a little, but I am always able to find something on the menu that does not have seafood in it. I would be the girl at the sushi restaurant getting chicken or cucumber maki and inari Anyway, the main reason I come to this Aloha Sushi is because they offer a miso udon. It is a bit on the pricey side, but for $8 you get a pretty filling dish. The udon comes with chicken, cabbage, seaweed, mustard cabbage (I think), and kamaboko. The broth is also good - a bit salty but has the classic taste of a miso broth with a hint of spice. When I am not feeling well or it is a cold day, I get udon from here. While the service may not be the number one in customer service, I have always got the correct order and did not have to wait an obscenely long time to get it. I also come here because I love the miso udon and it is the closest sushi place to my office. Plus, there is usually no long line during lunch. read more

I had the spicy tuna bowl- it cost $10. The spicy tuna bowl comes with miso soup, cellophane noodles, rice, and the tuna is served over a bed of lettuce. The quality of the tuna is comparable to canned tuna and the portion is small. It tasted like they used chili oil and lime mayo or something. It was a huge disappointment. For that I will never return to this place. There's so many other places that offer fresher and larger portions of tuna at the same price. This place is super overpriced, so I only come here when I'm lazy and want some sushi roll. Today is Election's Day, so Sushi Kahuna was closed and Ahi Lovers was really busy. Didn't feel like walking around to other places, so I ended up here. I paid $10.45 for 4 pieces of tempura roll with spicy ahi on top ($5.99) and for 6 pieces of gyoza ($3.99). Far too overpriced, even given the location -- I'm fairly certain this place is more expensive than Shirokiya, which has high prices because of the very pricey rent. Also, I get the distinct feeling that the Korean lady is just making up prices as she goes along, with respect to the foods already prepared and packaged. To add insult to injury, the food is mediocre too. Because its location is right next to my office and because I somehow keep forgetting how overpriced it is, I end up here maybe once or twice a year. Must remember not to go here in the future! read more

Lets be frank( even though thats not my name) - i come here if i dont have time to walk to any of the other sushi establishment. Or if im too lazy to cross the street ( some days i just dont feel motivated enough to brave the crosswalks) I can say that wait time for an order is less than a minute. Would like to see pricing on the prepackaged foods. Sometimes, the nori leaves little to be desired and if its not the main korean lady, please dont expect questions to be answered. Don't go here, like ever. Eat the dirt outside. The confused security guard will give you better service. I figured I would try again, maybe it was a weird day, this was a completely different type of fail. Now they drop from 2 to 1, because that is the lowest unless you don't write a review, which is probably the reason for so few reviews. The prepared food isn't priced, I'm pretty sure the old North Korean lady (just guessing from the attitude and aura of distain for others she saturates the place with) just charges how she feels. There were 8 musubi on the shelf, all with egg, a sign that said $1.91... I went up gave her my $2 and she said $2.40, when I asked why not $1.81, she snapped that it was only for the regular musubi, ok... when I asked for one she said they were all out. I said ok, somehow smiled and asked for my $2 back (which she had already put in the register and closed). She got it out and slammed in on the counter and gave me stink eye as I reached for it. Perhaps if they went out of business a good place could open. This place is so oppressive I can't get any material for comedy from it, despite the bright lights and nice appearance of the store it's almost depressing to interact with the employees, their eyes scream for the economy to improve so they can go work for anybody else. read more

I stopped by to pick up a quick lunch at this Aloha Sushi location in Bishop Square the other day. Even though it was already late in the day, there was not much left on the display table, only a few prepared sushi and gyoza. I picked up a brown rice shrimp tempura sushi and a side order of gyoza both of which totaled $10. Glad to know that sushi is now being offered with brown as well as white rice. The shrimp tempura sushi tasted okay along with the gyoza. The cucumber in the sushi gave it a nice crunch while the shrimp tempura and crispy gyoza was slightly soggy from being left out too long. No matter what gyoza is best eaten steamy hot. Otherwise the gyoza sauce tasted great eaten with my sushi which gave it more flavor. read more

Aloha Sushi is a Korean run sushi joint, so all the dishes skew to that side of the Asian food spectrum. You'll see typical Korean garnishes, veges, noodles, and sauces. Which isn't a bad thing if you enjoy Korean fare...but admittedly, like Chinese food it's not something I could eat daily. They do have a variety of pre-made sushi maki rolls, nigiri sets, all interesting but some in that typically overdone modern local twist, i.e. adding chili oil to everything! Even spicy ahi! But again, fairly tasty depending on your appetite. They also have a ton of bentos with katsu, pork, tofu, teri beef, gyoza, etc and even have katsu and oyako donburi bowls to boot. Point is that they have something, anything for your level of appetite. But more importantly, I can get a very decent bento right downstairs in the building I work in, Topa...so on rainy days, lazy days, or busy as hell days...I'm fed. The biggest plus is that the shop is run by two lovely and super friendly Korean women. They know all their customers and always give prompt and courteous service...check them out! read more

Ordered Spicy Poke Salad... Expected dressing... expected spicy... NOT!!! Took the order all the way back to Aiea when we realized no dressing.. and after a couple of bites... no spicy!! Called the restaurant and asked if she could fix it. My son took it all the way back into downtown.. He came home with a container of dressing, a scoop of poke on a small bed of lettuce (much smaller than the salad container that was disposed of by the restaurant owner). I called the restaurant back to ask what happened to my salad and she said she gave me some lettuce under the poke. So i said what happened to my avocado and carrots and the rest of the salad items, she continued to argue with me and said i could come down and pick up "a" piece of avocado... WHAT A JOKE!!!! I usually get their bibimbop for lunch. It's rice (not crunchy rice, so it's more of a donburi) topped with 5 choices of korean sides and you can pick a meat. I typically get spicy ahi on it. The spicy ahi has a korean flavor twist to it. Just a note, the fish is cut up into very small pieces and is a bit sparse. I like this meal because it's light and I get lots of veggies with it. read more

Came here looking to try out the other sushi places in the area. Got the salmon skin plate with rice and salad and miso soup. It was just okay. The rice seemed old or over cooked. Really, the only good thing here is their bentos. They have bentos with spicy ahi...very good, for a bento at least. Chicken/pork katsu and spicy ahi. Mochiko chicken and spicy ahi. Otherwise, there are better places for sushi downtown. read more

Ordered a spicy ahi bowl, and the ahi wasn't fresh. It was gross. The lady argued with me about it.. but, whatever. Never coming here again. Ninja Sushi in downotown is where I will be going from now on. Better service, better food and theres actually seating with AC. read more
