    Sunset drink and spam musubi
    Reyna R.

I had been craving spam musubi and finally came to this place. I was not disappointed. Their spam musubi was two for $7.50. I got the sunset drink as well (guava, lychee, and lime), which was yummy. Would definitely recommend you check this place out, it's family-owned, and you can tell they take pride in their food and service. The ambiance is very nice and colorful.

I don't even know what to say... it was so good i'm thinking about it three days later... some of the best food i've had in chicago, everything was beyond delicious and fresh! i can't wait to go back

I've been wanting to check this place out for a while and finally made my way over. The food was absolute delicious! I tried the mix plate, with the kalua pork and the adoba chicken, the pork was so yummy and was by far my favorite. The macaroni salad was so so good! Literally some of the best I've ever had. I tried the fish taco as well and it was so delicious!! The service was great and the inside is very cute and welcoming! I will definitely be back to check out more of the menu!

Aloha Wagon never disappoints. The chicken katsu was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. But honestly, the katsu sauce is to die for -- it's rich, slightly sweet, and makes every bite so addictive. The portion size is huge and definitely affordable for how much food you get. You could easily share it with two people or have leftovers for later. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. The spam musubi is also a delightful treat -- perfectly balanced with savory spam and soft rice. It's simple but done so well. If you're looking for delicious Hawaiian comfort food that's affordable, filling, and high quality, Aloha Wagon is absolutely worth it. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Not only is this one of the best plates of Hawaiian food i have had in a while, it's one of the best priced. Loco Moco: 5 of 5 Comes served with rice, salad, and mac salad. The gravy and hamburger patties are seasoned perfectly to compliment each other. Due to the strong flavors of the main dish, the sides are less so, but add grea t contrast to the plate. I highly recommend this and the chicken katsu plate. Each of these are well worth the price for both the amount and flavors. Service was very fast as well.

Why can't this place be closer to my house!!! It's so dang good. Chicago doesn't have enough Hawaiian cuisine and it's so unfortunate. This small shop on Western Ave. serves up some mean Hawaiian cuisine that will leave you with so much leftovers and a happy stomach. First, the portions are massive! I was able to eat my plate for 3 days straight. All plates come with their delicious mac salad, side salad, and rice. The mixed plate is the way to go to get the best of both worlds amongst their protein options. None of the meats were dry! Everything tasted so homey and authentic!!! Truly so comforting. Worth every penny in my opinion. Come check them out!

I tried the Hawaiian Grilled BBQ Chicken Plate. The grilled BBQ chicken was a little too salty for me. The potato mac salad had a unique flavor. I'm not sure why an additional mixed green salad is included. I did enjoy the guava drink which brought me back to my childhood growing up in Hawaii. The host/server was friendly and polite. The decor has somewhat of a tropical vibe. Being that this is a Hawaiian, Filipino, and Mexican restaurant, it's tough to have that visual balance. For now, I'm giving Aloha Wagon 3 stars which is fair. My next visit will be for the Spam Musubi. A simple comfort food that has to be done right! Can't wait to try it!

Our initial lunch plans fell through, but stumbling upon Aloha Wagon was a stroke of luck -what an incredible find! Service: The staff were so friendly and welcoming. They took the time to walk us through the menu, offered great recommendations, and even checked on us during our meal, which was such a nice touch for a casual spot. Their kindness really made the experience special. Food: Where do I even start? The loco moco was phenomenal, but the chicken absolutely stole the show. I have no idea how they managed to pack so much flavor into something so simple--it was perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. The sides (mac salad and house salad) complemented the meal beautifully. Portions are generous; one entree could easily be shared between two people. Drinks: Don't leave without trying the Sunset drink! The guava and lychee flavors shine in the most refreshing way. I only wish I lived closer because Aloha Wagon would absolutely be a go-to spot for me. Highly recommend stopping by!

First time at Aloha Wagon and let me tell you that the grilled bbq chicken plate is AMAZING. It was incredibly juicy and very generous portion. The potato salad was great and even the rice was cooked to perfection. For the price you pay you get both quality and quantity. Too bad I am just visiting because would come here often.

Seating facing the open kitchen area.

Small, what I think is a family owned business, but still a good amount of seating inside. The staff was super friendly, and since it was our first time eating here, they did answer some of our questions about the food. They also helped us with a recommendation of what to eat, which was very helpful and did not disappoint. We ended up getting a combination lunch. That way we were able to try 2 lunch menu items. We ended up getting a Hawaiian barbecue chicken and a fried chicken, both were extremely flavorful! And we did try the Arbol salsa & the Katsu sauce-both were good. The combination lunch also came with a salad(the House dressing they provide is delicious) and a type of macaroni potato salad & both were amazing. They do have a fruit and lychee drink, which was really good as well. Will definitely be back!

Showed up on a Friday morning at 730, was third in line, and waited 90 minutes. By 8am that line was already down to the end of the block. Just take my advice on this. My favorite thing about this place was how they let people in. One party at a time. Makes the atmosphere and ambiance inside feel more cozy and warm with none of that viral sensation nonsense. Best part is, when I finally ordered, the guy at the counter was super chill. Let me ask a few questions, was patient and kind. None of that viral sensation snobbery that comes with these kinds of places. Food time. The truffle croissant was unlike any other croissant I ever had. Despite the truffle it was also kind of sweet, I don't know it just works. Not hype at all. Our sticky bun had dimensions of deep burnt caramel flavor. Flavors kept unfolding with every chew. We are lumpia addicts so we had to try these. Absolutely delicious, but at over 10 bucks, anyone that knows lumpia knows you can get a dozen for like 5 bucks at strip mall type joints. And now for the main event. The breakfast sandwich with sausage, hash brown, and extra cheese was truly exceptional. It was textural bliss combined with the flavor bomb from the Filipino sausage. Would I wait 90 minutes again for another one, probably not. But I'm glad I did it just the same.

For drinks, I ordered the Pinoy Colada, while my sister chose the non-alcoholic pandan drink--both were refreshing and a great way to start the meal. We began with the ropa empanadas and croquetas, which were both delicious. For our entrées, we ordered the mussels in coconut broth, one of my favorites from our last visit, and it was every bit as flavorful as I remembered. The lechón kawali was perfectly crispy and packed with flavor--another standout dish for us. We also tried the ginataang gulay, which features a rich coconut broth, and the BKD fried rice, both of which complemented the meal nicely. The adobo wings were a new addition to our order this time, and we're so glad we tried them--they were incredibly tasty. To finish, we shared the halo-halo banana split, which was the perfect sweet ending to dinner. The service was friendly and attentive throughout our visit, and the restaurant has a cozy, comfortable atmosphere that makes it easy to relax and enjoy your meal. We'll definitely be back again.

They have a good beverage selection and the vanilla latte was delicious. For two people, we got a Pinoy Burrito and a half order each of croquetas, lumpia, and beef empanadas, two items coming in each half order, and it was the perfect amount of food. Our favorite was definitely the croquetas. I couldn't even tell you what was in them but the inside was soft and mushy in the best way with a crisp outside and a really yummy sauce. I also really like the empanadas with tasty tops vieja and a creamy, ranchy sauce. The Pinoy burrito was also really good, especially the bites with a good chunk of sausage and the sauce that came with it was also super tasty (as you can tell I'm big on good sauces). The lumpia was probably my least favorite but still good and crispy with a decent sauce, just liked the other things better!!

Moody, fine dining Filipino restaurant in ravenswood/north center Chicago…read more The experience of this place really starts when you enter the restaurant. I was a big fan of the interior. Dark moody lighting with warm colored lamps really sets the tone for the meal you are about to eat. Service was incredibly kind and attentive. Everyone's so lovely. The food is exactly what you'd expect - elevated Filipino and overall INCREDIBLE. Here's what we got/my thoughts. Coco ginger daiquiri - 5/5 - really refreshing. You could taste each component of the drink which was fun to experience. Sisig - 4/5 - I'll start by saying I'm really particular about my sisig. For sisig to be a 5 for me, it *has* to be crunchy. And that's the only thing this sisig was missing. For coming out on a sizzling plate, it was a little too wet, even after the sizzling. Despite this though, the flavors were there and they were delicious. Garlic rice - 5/5 - best garlic rice I've ever had in my life. Just get it. That's all I have to say. Pancit canton - 4/5 - if I'm being honest, it's hard to really elevate pancit canton. But this was a good attempt, it just seemed to be missing something to put it over the top. Really appreciated the fresh vegetables with the noodles. Lumpia - 5/5 - like pancit canton, it seems hard to elevate lumpia but they freaking did it. This was so good. The filling was nice and juicy and had great flavor. Kare Kare - 5/5 - Kare Kare was my favorite dish growing up but I've never experienced it elevated to such a high level until boonies. The meat was so tender, cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth. The vegetables being carmelized was also quite the treat. Didn't realize until after the fact that the sauce isn't made with peanuts, so huge plus that gives our peanut allergic friends the opportunity to experience such an amazing dish. So well done.

This was a great, cozy spot to try a different take on Filipino food. Being a Filipina myself, I'm…read moretorn between labeling it because I feel like some of the dishes are more Filipino-inspired while others are definitely elevated-Filipino. Either way, it's a good place to try a twist on your favorites or dip into something new. I especially appreciated that there were a lot of vegetarian options which is hard to find in Filipino food, like our "veggie" lumpia usually has small bits of meat in it, lol. We were warmly welcomed, seated relatively quickly, and the service was attentive and timely. The place is cozy and on the dark side so my pics aren't the greatest. We had the Inihaw ng Talong which is basically grilled eggplant that came brushed with sunflower butter, loaded with tomatoes and garnished with cilantro. This was a nice start but a small one. The eggplant was smoky and creamy and complimented by the bright tomatoes. The Satti Manok, skewered grilled chicken, with cornbread sticky rice was good, but I've definitely had better for a lot less. This is usually a staple you'll find at any Filipino family's BBQ but the cornbread sticky rice was a surprisingly nice treat. If you've had this before, somewhere else, I'd skip it to try something else. The Sinigang Caesar was such a nice twist that totally made sense! My only complaint is that it was served with Bibb lettuce instead of a crunchy romaine. I enjoyed this so much I've been making my Caesar dressings with a sprinkling of Sinigang powder now and my family loves it. The Kare Kare gulay was nice and I enjoyed it. The charred cabbage gave it some extra depth that I think is needed to pull this off because this sauce is made with sunflower butter instead of peanut butter. This was great for me because I'm allergic to peanuts but it definitely changes the flavor, making it a little sweeter and lighter. I wish they would've made this with cashew or almond butter to keep it closer to the rich, deep flavors of a Kare Kare. The Maitake mushrooms -- I absolutely loved. I've never had this before and it reminded me of a good Laing which is also made with a spiced coconut sauce. I definitely could've eaten this all to myself with the garlic rice. Yes, the garlic rice is good but I was surprised to see it go for $6 a bowl. Rice is usually so cheap, if not complementary in Filipino restaurants and garlic rice is quite common, especially for breakfast (yes, I sabreakfast). It was cooked perfectly though. The mango float was delicious. Not sure why it's called a float but it was mango and mascarpone ice cream nestled in a mango sauce and topped with a delicate, crumbly butter cookie. I will definitely come back for more if I'm ever in the area again. I'd be excited to try other things on their menu.
