One of my favorite specialty take out places that boasts a weekly changing menu. Lunch and dinner only, pay attention to their ordering times. Order online with options to pay online and in person, in addition to ordering in person. I can't attest to the in person ordering wait time since the online ordering is super convenient for me. Pro tip: follow their instagram, they will normally post their weekly menu via insta story on Mondays, then they post photos of that weeks menu items usually on Tuesday when they open for business; it helps me decide if I'll be paying a visit that week lol. I also like that they always have at least one full vegetarian option and a dessert option. They might seem slightly pricey for take out but I do believe they offer restaurant quality food which makes it reasonably priced in my book. read more

Personally Iʻm opposed to that concept because to me it just is a negative customer experience. Psychologically I would rather see a price that includes everything and then a discount for cash instead of an upcharge. ANYWAY. So my $20 plate became $20.70. It was still top quality though and much enjoyed. We had pork schnitzel and dynamite shrimp. Both were great. They now have a fancy lemonade menu. When I'm in Hilo, I always have to get Aloha Mondays. I love their rotating menu, so I know I can always try something different that's gonna taste great. Having pictures on their Instagram definitely helps me decide what I want to order. I got the Kulana seared ahi with soba noodles, wakame, namasu, and bok choy. The ahi was super fresh. I love the pickled vegetables that it came with. I also got the lilikoi cheesecake. Their desserts are always really good. This had a lot of lilikoi flavor! Really don't get the hype around this place. Expensive and did not taste good. We came on a Wed afternoon around 2 and it wasn't busy at all. Food came out in about 15 min. It seems like a lot of people order for pickup as a couple parties came while we were waiting to pick up their food. We got the lamb kabob, tofu banh mi and the fish and chips. Lamb kabob: flavor of the kabob was good but the rice it came with was pretty bad. Very dry and tasted like it had been made way earlier. You could taste the rosemary though. The tomato salad it came with was mediocre. Tofu banh mi: the bread was BAD. so crumbly and dry and didn't have any flavor. The whole sandwich eats so dry that you need to douse it in the sweet chili aioli it came with. The tofu was just plain and needed some seasoning on it but the coconut crust was good. Mahi mahi Fish and chips: the kimchi home fries were just potato wedges with a tiny bit of kimchi on it and a thin layer of cheese that stuck together. Although most look forward to Aloha Friday's as the end of the work week, for Chef Kanoa Miura, Mondays was the day off when he was starting off. Now a full-service caterer, he is sharing his innovative weekly menus with fresh seasonal ingredients for takeout lunch and dinner Tuesday-Fridays with the menu for the week dropping each Tuesday. I preordered Tuesday for Friday pickup as my heart was set on that Dynamite Broiled Salmon with Shitake and Edamame Risotto that lasted me two meals. Amazing flavors on the Big Island A couple months ago doing research, I came across Aloha Mondays. It's a catering company that also offers lunch and dinner takeout with a menu that changes weekly using locally-grown ingredients. On the big island last week we included a stop there in our plans, and boy are we glad we did! We got these two dishes and shared them, amazing! Top of the photo is Kulana Steak Sandwich - made with Mushrooms & Melted Swiss Cheese, Sautéed Bell Peppers & Onion. Does purple things are BBQ 'Uala Chips. At the bottom is their Shredded Chicken Wet Burrito - served with Chipotle Enchilada Sauce, Rice, Beans & Cheese and includes sides of Pineapple Pico de Gallo & Cilantro-Scallion Sour Cream If the Big Island (Hawaii) is in your travel plans, I highly recommend getting on their mailing list - and plan a meal (or more) for take-out there. Lack of consistency. Seems to be a theme in Hilo. Tried the Korean meatball sub. The bread was decent and the meatballs were tasty. The marinara was thick and clung to the meatballs. There just wasn't enough of it and the sandwich ate dry. There was a sauce for the onion rings -- I think gochujang and mayonnaise -- which I added to the sub. The onion rings were some of the best I've ever had! Very crispy tempura batter with nice thick multiple slices of onions in each ring. Came back later in the week and decided to ask for a side of the marinara sauce. This time that sauce was so watery the bread was soggy and falling apart. The side marinara was a large piece of kimchi floating in orange water. Bland as hell. The onion rings were severely undercooked and inedible. The batter inside was still runny. Was hoping this would be a new take out option for us. Nope. Haven't been back. I will say the young woman at the window is very nice and helpful!!! read more

Hey hey Adventurers! We stopped by this cute takeout spot for the days specials and some pizza. Everything was delicious--especially the pasta special. The shrimp were well done and Cajun style it was so good. The pizza needed to be cooked a bit more though. I definitely recommend if you're checking out coconut island and Honoli'i Beach Park. There's a 711 across the street for all your needs except the bathroom. Either way check this spot out! read more

Hilo has some amazing food finds, we found this place that does only take out and limited hours, we were able to place a order 45 min before they closed and had our order ready. The take out was like gourmet food in take out box, the portions were large, we didn't finish anything and had left overs for the next day. Highly suggest to share a plate if you are a medium size eater. They take out rotates weekly so each week is something different. We ordered the smoked pork pizza, meatload and seared ahi soba with lilikoi tiramisu. Loved all of it accept the mashed potato with some cheese that had a bit, the tiramisu was interesting, but not a wow factor. Since we had a way to get to our air bnb they seperated our hot and cold items for us, such great service. Definitely going back. read more

Found this spot for lunch - you just order and take it to-go. For three people, we shared the seafood paella and the guava BBQ baby back ribs. Food was okay, and they said it would be a 20 minute wait but it ended up being closer to 40. 40 would've been find if we were told that. Incredible spot! Called today and asked if they had a keiki menu, happily: "no, but we can make one!" In addition to the wonderful tofu veggie curry and ahi soba salad for mom and dad, they presented us with the most delicious butter noodles, pesto meatballs, and sautéed broccoli. I wish I took pictures of the food... but I wanted to come on here and say Aloha mondays did a fabulous job at catering my wedding. The food was to die for!!! All of my guests were raving about how great the food was. The only thing that was a little down fall was there were no plates/ cutlery... I had to provide my own, and after I had to clean and return all items. I'm considering it's because of the covid mandates which I respect and understand why it was like that. I love a place that highlights locally available produce and food! While living in Hilo, I had to order from this place. Ordering online and pick-up was easy. I would describe the food as a good, home-cooked meal. I had to reheat the food when I got home. I am not sure if that was how the meal worked, but I was surprised that it was lukewarm when I got it. The portions were huge and the shepherd's pie I got lasted me for a dinner and a lunch the next day. I also got the dessert, which was a cinnamon roll at the time, which was huge! What day of the week to chickens hate most? ...Fry-day! Hahahahahaha! As a disclaimer before I really begin my review, this is a review of the one meal that I had from this place. I'm well aware that they serve a wide variety of dishes, and I can't speak on those. In all honesty, I was sorely disappointed by Aloha Mondays. I'd heard all sorts of hype about this place, and was very intrigued by their changing menu, as well. On this particular day, I decided that the chicken and waffles with lilikoi syrup looked like the most appealing meal on their menu. Being a fan of both fried chicken and waffles, it had to be good, right? Wrong. So very wrong. That had to be some of the driest fried chicken that I have ever eaten. Along with that dryness came a bit of toughness, which gave it a less than savory bite/texture. On top of this, the breading that was used on the chicken was just extremely starchy tasting, which resulted in a really bland tasting chicken overall. Now, it is worth noting that the waffle part of the meal was actually good, especially with the lilikoi syrup and butter that was included in the meal. It just wasn't enough to do it for me, though. I couldn't even bring myself to finish the meal, the chicken was so bad. If I were them, I'd definitely look into revamping their chicken frying techniques or something, because damn. I expected much better from a place that gets high praise so regularly. Maybe down the line I'll try out another meal, but for now, I think I'd have to pass on this place. From what I can tell, if you're interested in trying Aloha Mondays, you'll be just fine if you order anything besides the fried chicken. Stay away from that chicken at all costs, though. read more

I have personally used Aloha Mondays Catering 2 times, one for a party of 50 in South Lake Tahoe, CA (yes we flew them up because they are THAT good), and another for a party in Hilo of 200 people. I can tell you that almost one year after both of those parties all of my friends still reminisce about how good the food was and how much fun it was to work with and get to know the chefs Kanoa and Kalei. I can't even begin to relay how amazing and unique all of the dishes were. The chefs are obsessive (in a good way) about balance and perfection. Every creation embodied perfect taste combination, perfect temperature, and my personal favorite - the highest quality products from sustainable local farms and fishermen. And what you ask did we lucky party goers get to dine on? Howz about some: BBQ-Beef satay skewered on Sugarcane sticks Crispy Whole Uku served with a Pineapple-Lime a dipping sauce, on a bed of fresh and organic sprout-herb mix Sushi Chef service station with an on-going array of non-traditional rolls Hibachi chicken with a Truffle-Yaki Glaze Fresh morning catch Ahi Poke Ulu-Mac salad Fresh Hearts of Palm and Green Papaya Salad Kalua pig Gyoza on homemade Kimchee That is merely a sampling of some of the dishes I can immediately recall. I'll safely say the quality of food alone has me and my friends coming back to Kanoa and Kalei over and over again, but in addition to award winning cuisine da boyz are just plain FUN to work with! Kanoa has an effusive personality that you want to sit down and have a beer with and just laugh all night! But no time for beer, once you set the wheels in motion Aloha Mondays is all about work work work! They even helped us arrange a live hawaiian band for our wedding reception, they offered to provide all silver, glass and flatware. They were prepared with servers that were professionally dressed with incredible table-side manners, and they left the venue CLEANER than when they arrived! If you are looking to really treat your guests to a special dining experience they will be talking about for years to come Aloha Mondays is where it's at. I know they have done events of 500+ people, and as little as a high-end dinner party of 8 people, each time managing to leave everyone speechless with culinary delight. It is clear that Kanoa and Kalei just plain old LOVE good food, and it is their mission to share that love with the rest of the world!! read more

Paella a la marinela was soooo 'ono tonight! I couldn't put it down until it was gone! Love how the shrimp still had the heads and it made it so much more flavorful! The large lemon slice added the perfect amount of citrus! Spices were a nice and subtle flavor. Very delicious! My mother-in-law and I had it tonight and we were so glad we ordered it. My husband got the steak with garlic mash, onion rings, and au jus. He ate it in no time! I take that as a good sign. Aloha Mondays did a phenomenal job catering our wedding last July. Guests are still talking about how amazing the food was. I would highly recommend them for any event large, small or in between. Not only was the food amazing (fresh, creative and beautiful) but the professional and immaculately dressed staff went out of their way to do whatever they could to make the evening special for us. Not only do they create some of the best local food I've ever had, they also rent pretty much anything you need for a large party (from plates and glasses to tablecloths and napkins). Heart of Palm Flan? Ingenious and Delicious!!! Today, I had their greek salad that you can pick-up bento-style (among a choice of 5-6 other yummy options).
