I was so confident about Alon that I was going to write the review before we got the photos. Based solely on the experience with Alon on the day, and a sneak preview slideshow we got given as a nice surprise and teaser, we knew the photos were going to be amazing, and they are. In summary, we couldn't have been happier with the photos. We have a great mix of formal/family, candid, and some stunning bayside shots. The bayside photos are completely unique and are the kind of thing you see in a magazine. You imagine these shots would take hours and hours to do, with 5 people and 3 tons of equipment behind the camera, but somehow, Alon managed to make even us look like movie stars with just a single camera and no other props at all. In addition, Alon was willing to work with my budget. Anyone planning a wedding knows the financial dent a wedding can make. Especially when the couple doesn't have mommy and daddy Rockefeller for parents. Anyway, Alon was as kind enough to understand that and work with us financially. I am racking my brain trying to find the perfect description for Alon, but not one word can describe how truly gifted he is nor give him the credit he deserves. Alon can not be put into the same category as his competitors as he far exceeds his colleagues by a landslide. Recently he did a photo shoot for my children - my daughter being autistic has a short attention span and will rarely look at anything when asked - I was afraid to even try the shoot as you never know what you're going to get. My son is 7 months so that can be challenging as well. He spent the time with my daughter and took my breath away by his ability to work with her and make her feel comfortable. I was amazed by his compassion but most importantly his patience! The pictures came out stunning!!! One better than the next! I am mind blown by the images! I have also had the privilege to work with Alon at several weddings as I own an event design boutique, Event Snob. Alon is a professional...he's always on time, amazing to work with, and my clients are always beyond ecstatic and satisfied with the quality of photographs he produces. We asked for a partial refund due to the awful quality of his work. He refused. I hope my post helps others avoid this business. ZERO stars. I bought a groupon and would never do that again with this photographer, he never had any time slots available online, and when he finally did return my call he was very vague about his appointments like he had no control over the appoinment situation? He very quickly started to tell me he couldn't honor an outdated groupon, which mine was NOT. I could not ever secure an appointment and finally gave up and got a refund from groupon. I think Mr. David shouldn't agree to offer a groupon if he really can't do the work........or maybe he has no control over that! PR before the shoot is just as important as the shoot!!! In response to Mr. David's comments , my groupon was not expired until feb 2013, I was trying to secure a spot and when you returned my call you told me you could not book an appoinment over the phone I had to book online , I tried to explain that my family was here for 1 week from oklahoma and please could you save anytime anyplace for me and you told me NO , I had to do it online . I couldn't wait to see if you had spots available it was too far out as I was trying to book last JUNE!!!! You were so rude and short on the phone with me, I just booked another photogpher and returned the groupon, as I said before PR before the shoot is just as important as after. **After reading this photographers comment on my original post I notice that he attacks a lot of bad reviews on here. I am fairly sure Yelp is a place for people to feel comfortable writing honest reviews without threat of reproach. Furthermore I never said I wanted an engagement session (my sister did mine since she is an amazing professional photographer and if she wasn't my MOH would be doing my wedding as well). I also did not want an album. It's only further clear that you lie in your comments due to the fact that I NEVER said my budget was $1,000, since it is $1,500 for a photographer. And yes 8-10 hours of wedding coverage with no album and no engagement session for $1,500 is VERY reasonable. Telling me to look to "amateurs" on cragislist was disgusting and unprofessional. I clearly was reaching out to PROFESSIONALS with a completely reasonable budget and request. Again, you ARE a joke of a professional and I can only guess that your happy clients were fooled since it's clear many other Yelpers feel you attitude is an issue as well. Do NOT contact me again, and I suggest you take a long hard look at the way you conduct yourself. Original Review: I was so disgusted with this photographer. I had contacted him to inquire about wedding packages and did recieve a quick response. However his packages were way out of my budget so I politely responded (so as not to leave his correspondence with me as a potential client open and unfinished, which for some vendors creates a lot more follow up work) that his services would not fit within our budget. Within minutes I received an email asking what I could afford and offering to set up a package for me. A lot of vendors will do this if they are a few hundred out of your price range, and it's a nice gesture. However during the planning process I've found that no vendor can or will compromise close to $1,000 just to retain you as a client. (Understandable). Without waiting for an email response from me Alon (I assume it was him) called me immediately. If there is one thing I cannot stand it's being harassed by wedding vendors. He asked me my budget and when I informed him what it was and that it was far below his starting packages he laughed. Yes, he laughed at me. As a bride all you want is for your day to be wonderful, and the best. And to have a vendor LAUGH at you, is despicable. My fiance and I are working very hard to pay for our wedding. To make matters worse he then told me that with that budget, maybe I should look to craigslist for some college students to photograph my wedding. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! This man clearly has zero class or idea of how to treat brides. He should NOT be able to come into contact with them. I politely informed him that there were many PROFESSIONAL photographers in San Diego who did offer wedding photography within our budget, I was simply gathering all the quotes I could. And it's true, I have found numerous photographers who offer packages at a REASONABLE price. This man is a joke. I had originally seen him on the A List for San Diego wedding vendors and am blown away that he was even on there. I hope next time the creators of that list do a little more research into the candidates. I also hope he reads this and realizes how hurtful and rude he was to a bride. Mr. David I do not understand how you find my review harassing. I have the right as a client of yours to write a review expressing my feelings about the service you provided as does anyone else in my family who worked with you. My review is similar to others you have from last year that describe your temperament and unprofessional behavior to be similar to what I experienced. I do not understand why you call all of us liars when we express our dislike for how you conduct your business. If you do not wish to have bad reviews written, do not provide bad service and you will always have good reviews. Anyone who owns and runs a business knows that when you provide good service, that client will most likely tell 1-3 people about their experience. A client (such as myself) who experiences bad customer service will most likely tell 10-15 people about their experience. What is great about technology these days is that a client wishing to express their dislike for a vendor has many outlets to use, like Yelp, and is able to tell thousands of people at once about their experience. My suggestion to you is to treat all clients with dignity and respect and you will receive glowing reviews each time. Like I stated before. We very much liked your pictures and were looking forward to getting them and cherishing them for many years to come, but unfortunately this did not happen. What a waste of time! My wife bought this deal for a one hour photo session for up to 6 people last year. We were finally able to get an appointment to take these photos only to waste our time taking the photos and never getting them from Alon David Photography!!! We had 6 adults and 3 children in our family and wanted to take group photos. Because of the added 3 people we talked with the photographer and he agreed that if we pay an additional $35 for my 5 year old niece and $35 extra for my 1 year old son, that he would not charge us for our 9 month old niece. So in addition to the deal we bought we agreed to pay the additional $70 as well to get all of us in the pictures. The photo session went well and after it was done we talked about how we would get the 25 shots that was part of the deal my wife bought. He said he would pick the best 25 and email them. Instead of getting the email with the photos, we received an email stating that in order to get any of our pictures we would have to pay more money! WHAT!! We already agreed with him before the photo session to pay additional for the children and now he wanted even more! He claimed he should have charged us $59 for each group of adults! Obviously this guy didn't get a degree in math because if he did he would know that we were already paying him more then if we had purchased 2 of the deals for $59. Lets break it down: We were a family of 9 all together so if we had originally bought 2 deals for $59 and could bring up to 6 people for each deal, we would only be spending $118 and would have gotten NOT only 25 photos but 50 photos since we would be joining both our deals together. Instead we paid him $129 (deal $59 + $70 for both additional children) and were only asking for 25 photos from him. So instead of working with us and holding up his end of the deal that he had agreed too, he backed out and told us unless we paid him more money he would not release the photos to us. My wife was afraid that even if we did pay the extra money that he was ultimately the one choosing the photos and could easily send us horrible ones. So we decided to take a refund and get photos done by another photographer. It was such a waste of time for us to even go out and take theses pictures. What an unprofessional business this guy runs. Please consider this review when deciding on using this guy. Next time we plan to use a actual professional photographer instead of this photo studio and you should too! read more

Alon and his team recently shot our engagement session and our wedding a few weeks ago. Since we opted out of having a videographer for our wedding, we knew that finding the right photographer would be extremely important to help us capture our big day. After viewing Alon's work online, we knew that we had our guy. From the beginning of our engagement, we knew we liked Alon because he was very responsive and also showed that he enough spunk to to take charge of any situation. After attending and being in many weddings over the years, we both knew these were key traits we had to look for. We've heard plenty of horror stories where the newlyweds didn't get their photos until way after the fact and also have been in situations where the photographer seemed overwhelmed by the personalities in the wedding which yields poor results IMO. He proved to be able to do just that...we received our raw photos almost immediately after our shoots, and the edited work was quickly compiled and turned back to us. Also, throughout the wedding, he effectively managed our time and directed us to getting all the awesome footage we had wished for and more. Another plus with working with Alon was that he is flexible with different payment options. As any newly-wed planning for weddings can attest, this is something that you'll greatly appreciate. A lot of vendors require check or cash payments, the fact that credit was accepted was extremely helpful to alleviate some burden as we were saving up cash for the rest of our wedding. Also, a wedding planner friend of ours had provided us a mock budget for quality photographers, so we knew that Alon came in at the right price point. But most importantly, the quality of work spoke for itself. Alon and his team's dedication to their craft is evident, the attention to detail and experience really shines and we were really satisfied with how everything turned out. Alon and his assistant Jesse are great at what they do and Alon's wife, Maya, also did a killer job compiling really nice high quality photo albums which we loved. We ended up using our engagement Photo Album as our guest signing book per Alon's suggestion, which worked fantastically. We had a similar experience to others listed here that bought a living social deal, did our engagement shoot with Alon at Mission Bay (awesome pics) and then were told that it's an extra $100 to get all of the pics (Came out being about $1 a pic). Not the best business model in my opinion, but I did like most of our pictures. We were also told that the money we spent could go towards a wedding shoot. Later on we realized that Alon was WAY out of our price range. We picked prints out at David's studio which was a lot more fun than the engagement shoot. I got married last June, and since our budget was tighter than tight, we didn't hire a photographer (just had a family friend take a bunch of pics). So when I saw a Groupon deal pop up for Alon for a 1-hour photo session and 25 professional pics on a CD, I didn't hesitate to buy it. Even though it was a few weeks after the actual wedding ceremony, we had our session in Balboa park at the Organ Pavilion, and the photos came out PHENOMENAL! Seriously, they're beautiful. They were everything I ever wanted and drooled over when I was reading about other people's weddings but knew there was no way in H&%$ I could afford. We had Alon out to our gym, Fathom CrossFit, to take photos during a fundraising event we had on Memorial Day. We had never had a professional document a workout as it was going down so weren't sure what to expect in final product. He arrived early to get preliminary photos of the space and as the event went on he got a shot of every participant competing. I bought a Groupon almost a year ago for 25 shots on a disk. After a busy year and losing the Groupon, I found it again and gave Alon a call immediately. I'd have to agree with some of the negative reviewers that his communication with me before the shoot was a little discouraging. He was slightly terse on the phone and told me to wait for an appointment to open up online. So the day of the shoot my fiancé and I were a little apprehensive about what our experience would be like. But when Alon arrived we were both so happy with the service we were walking away trying to figure how to work him in our wedding budget (which we have by the way!). Again, I'll agree with some of the negative reviewers about his demeanor. He is very quick and not very personable. But, honestly, it was one of the elements we loved. Quick means efficient. It shows that he has done this forever and knows what he is doing. With the camera always in his face, he didn't miss a single shot. As for not being personable, again, we thought it efficient and professional. He told us exactly what we needed to do and where to be so our photos came out perfect. He was just the right amount of funny to relax us while not distracting from the whole shoot with chit chat. I was so pleased with the whole experience that when he asked to get a shot of me not smiling, I couldn't. So when he threw the added option to get all the photos and a few prints (since we made this an engagement session) we jumped on it. He also asked about our wedding and we explained to him that its going to be small (about 40 people). He said he could easily work us into a smaller package. So, to sum up: 4 stars because he is talented, efficient, and creates a great product. -1 only because of the initial reservations before meeting him (which I would prefer to make half a star). WTF! Ok now that I have your attention :) I found Alon on yelp! I read his reviews which then I checked out his website and was blown away by his photos. I'm not going to lie when my husband and I initially went to go meet him to discuss package and pricing we didn't expect to book right then and there. After meeting Alon and seeing his photos we were blown away and couldn't book fast enough! on the day of my wedding he came earlier than expected and set up and was ready to work. He was so easy to get along with and we all had a great time working with him. The day after the wedding he immediately posted a photo he had taken and it was amazing. My family and friends were blown away and thought it came out of a magazine! I can not wait to see the rest of the photos and I am very happy that we went with Alon for our pictures! I bought th Groupon for a 1 hr photo shoot and 25 retouched images on a disc. Since we did not get newborn pics of my daughter, I was THRILLED with this deal. Mr. David was very accomodating because of my tight schedule and was able to schedule us for a weekend shoot. He said 5-6 weeks to receive the disc of pictures and we got them in a little over 1 week- I was VERY happy about that. I did not give 5 stars because the session was short, very short..like 15 minutes short. My 6 month old was cranky towards this time but I feel if we had been moved into different positions she would have been ok. She was just "done" with that certain position. Also, we didn't get one picture of her smiling..I feel like there wasn't a huge effort being made to get her to. I have hundreds of her smiling, so I know it's possible. That being said, the pictures he got (non smiling) are stunning. Mr. David wasn't very personable, I think it might be because we bought the groupon and weren't too interested in paying more for the extra shots.Either way, I wasn't there to make friends, I was there to get great picures of my daughter and he definitely delivered! read more

I purchased a Groupon for a one-hour session with Alon. The whole purpose of our photo shoot was to have family photos with my mom who is a breast-cancer survivor of 8 years. She recently had another scare around mother's day, so my brother came into town. I decided it was time to update our family photos. Being that our family came in from different states, I was hoping to find a photographer that wasn't too expensive and able to fit us into the only day we could schedule. Alon was so great about squeezing us in between two shoots, at a time we requested. The photo shoot was held at a beautiful park in San Diego. He was able to capture beautiful images and sparked funny conversations with our family. He also made my little 4-year old niece laugh and made her his "assistant". My new wife and I are huge fans of Alon's work and professionalism, and we would recommend his services to anybody. After reading some of the negative reviews from Groupon users, I couldn't help but be amused by some of the claims made. Many of them are out of character for Alon--and I can vouch for him truthfully, given the positive experience we have had with him in all of our interactions since choosing him as our wedding photographer. Our wedding was at Sycuan Resort & Casino (beautiful venue!), a location Alon had not shot before, which I never anticipated being an issue, and it only helped contribute to his creativity the day of the wedding. Himself, and his assistant showed up on time and begun immediately, providing excellent ideas and doing a fantastic job of capturing all the "details". Alon visited the bride's party to shoot them getting ready, and my wife said that he was especially supportive and positive on what was indeed a hectic (but fun!) day. Alon was adamant about making sure any special shots or requests we had were fulfilled, and was especially fantastic about providing pose suggestions, direction, and creative ideas. Also noteworthy, the guy was EVERYWHERE. The amount of coverage during the ceremony and reception ensures that every special moment was captured that day. Both photographers were excellent sports--it was an especially hot evening, but it never deterred them from getting amazing shots throughout the festivities. They also stayed later than what was agreed upon, which my wife and I are so incredibly grateful for. Alon THAT EVENING posted some photos to Facebook. Does the guy ever sleep? He busts his tail for his clients, and that's why we are so satisfied with our experience working with him. I was part of the Groupon crowd as well, picking one up for an onsite photo shoot back in February of 2012. I live in LA and Alon David is in SD but we figured it would be a nice road trip for the family to spend a weekend in SD to do the photoshoot. Unfortunately, I ended up being otherwise busy during all of 2012 and as most Groupons go, I waited until the last minute to try to schedule an appt with Alon to get the full benefit of the discount. My Groupon was expiring in a month or so and the only times I could get down with the fam would be on the weekend. I tried to book online but all of the weekend slots were taken prior to the day my Groupon would expire. I called a couple times and was told to book online but again, couldn't work that out due to the schedule constraints and the availability of the next weekend date. I ended up emailing Alon directly and letting him know the situation. He put me on a wait-list for a weekend, letting me know it might be months before a slot would open up. I agreed, thinking that I could at least use the purchase-price value of the Groupon if my photoshoot was after the expiration date. Surprisingly, he was able to get me in on a weekend much sooner than expected (someone cancelled, maybe?) and it worked out perfectly with my family's schedule since we could all get away that weekend. It was serendipitous! :D I spoke with him by phone on the Saturday before the shoot to confirm the pricing given the expired Groupon and he laid out the terms for me. He offered a deal along with the value of the expired Groupon that would nab me all of the pictures from the shoot, touched up and on CD. We drove down and spent Saturday in SD with our photoshoot being on Sunday. Had a great time Saturday night and were sloooooow getting ready for our 10 AM photoshoot. I had two girls, one woman, and me to get dressed and ready -- in a one bath hotel room, no less -- so we were running late. Alon texted to make sure we were still going to make it. We arrived about 10 minutes late and he was there ready and waiting patiently. The photoshoot went great! He made the entire family comfortable, keeping the girls laughing and suggesting "attitude" poses. For me and the wifey he suggested romantic and confident poses. The poses for the family were fun and light...everyone was smiling. He made good use of the grounds and architecture (we were in Presidio Park) using the trees, buildings, and light to craft some nice shots. He showed us the pictures as we went along, making sure we were getting the shots we wanted before moving on to the next group of shots. After the shoot, we briefly discussed the terms again and wrapped up. He let me know it would be two to three weeks for the touch up and CD delivery. He also offered another option for a package that included pics online and printed with delivery. I declined on that, opting to wait for the CD. We were surprised to get the CD just four days later! The images were all there (200+) with minimal touch up. I was OK with that as I didn't expect photoshop-skin-smoothing-touch-ups on 200+ pictures; just color correction. Alon is a great photographer and is in high demand so I understand that getting on his calendar is tough. I was glad we were able to work that out sooner than later, get down to SD for a great photo shoot, and then get our quality pictures back quickly. Yes, I'd book Alon again! read more

I purchased a groupon deal, after reading his great reviews on yelp. I waited till the last minute to redeem my groupon, but i still managed to find an open date that worked for me. I chose to do the shoot at Balboa Park, and I was able to twist my boyfriends arm into taking the photos with me. Alon was there on time, 15 min early as requested. He was very professional. I explained to him that this was our first photo shoot. We were a bit nervous, but Alon worked very well with us. He told us how to pose and even showed us the photos on his camera afterward. We took photos in front of 4 different areas of the park: by the pillars, by trees, by a stone wall, and a dirt/tree trail. The shoot lasted a whole hour, like the groupon stated. From what we saw on his camera, the photos came out amazing. I cant wait to get the final disk with the edited images. I also did a Groupon shoot with this photographer and had the same impression as other yelpers: He is not very friendly or personable. That said, I can't claim that he is unprofessional. He was on time to the photo shoot and was very quick. The main reason I'm only giving an "average" score, is that the photos did not wow me. I had hoped a professional photographer would have better composition skills. I still enjoy the pictures we got (because they show our whole family together) but I don't think I would call on Mr. David for his services again. read more

I''ve used Alon for 4 services and am always very happy with his creative pictures and quick turntime. I met Alon through a Groupon offer. He did family pictures for us at the beach with our 3 month daughter. He is very creative and professional. He showed up on time and we had a link to our pictures within 48 hours after the session. He also mailed us a DVD with all of the images. After buying the Groupon, I went online and found his videos. We happened to need one for our business and he did that for us too. It far exceeded our expectations. When our son was born, we met at the beach and did beach photos which are beautiful and all over the house. I need to have him put 2 on canvas. When I needed an updated work photo, he took that in his studio. I was there for about 20 min and had photos emailed to me by the time I got back to work. Alon is so wonderful, so personable and so intuitive that I've already booked him for my own wedding. I'm not kidding - I haven't even set a date yet, but when a woman decides who she wants (fiancee or photographer) there ain't no talkin' her out of it ;) I fell in love with Alon's photography because he communicates with his eyes; he captures priceless expressions that the rest of us miss out on. For so many of us, it just takes a heartbeat for the moment to be over. And somehow, he manages to fill in those precious gaps. Alon is such a talented photographer!!! We couldn't be more pleased with how the photo shoot went, and how the photos turned out!! Everyone was simply amazed. There literally hundreds of wonderful shots; it was so hard to pick the ones we wanted for our Holiday cards this year! We will certainly call Alon again for all of our photography needs! He even got our two tiny, somewhat nutty boys to actually smile-- even to laugh-- REPEATEDLY and AT THE SAME TIME-- for the entire hour at the beach! I think we have managed to get the 2 kids to smile into the camera at the same time three times in their entire lives. The turn-around time was also lightening-fast, and Alon is super awesome at communicating. We were on a time crunch because I'm swamped with school and we needed the photos done on time to order Holiday cards. No problem... Alon totally worked with us and made everything happen. I wanted to wait to review him until we actually got our photo disc..which arrived today!!! Love them!!! We upgraded and got all the photos he took (about 200) and they're beautiful!! We had a Groupon for Alon David and we took photos at Presidio Park (great for families and engagement photos by the way!!!) He was super nice and a great photog- told me when my hair was in my face or when my son was drooling :) He took us around the park for different poses and backgrounds and directed all the shots. We took family photos and individual photos for our company...our individual photos look like Hollywood headshots- no joke- my hubby already made his his profile pic. He showed us the photos and also asked if we wanted more poses or more photos but my son was in meltdown phase and we had more than enough shots. Alon did an amazing job on my wedding last month. I knew he would be great since he did my mother's wedding two years ago but now. OMG. My mother didn't get quite the large package I did but man I am happy I did. Amazing photos, so many that we love. In fact we are ordering several professional prints from Alon to create a gallery wall in our home. Alon is professional, on time, full of ideas to get photos you would of never thought of and I promise you will be like me and want to have them all in your album. We used Alon's team to take pictures for my Boyfriends Birthday. A fun momento while he enjoyed a ride in a Corvette for the day as well as a Drift Race in Fontana. Alon is a true professional. Very impressed by his work. He did an action photo shoot yesterday at my gym, KOR Strength and Conditioning, and it went amazingly. He captured so many great moments. The subjects looked like they were going to burst through the screen in his pics. He took over 500 pics in one hour...he was sweating almost as much as those of us working out. I can't wait to use the pics to market and promote the business. Anybody looking for business action shots for their website or to post on Yelp should give Alon a call as he just as a knack for finding those angles and capturing those expressions that make a picture great.
