So glad my husband and I stumbled upon this absolute gem!!! We originally came in looking for a tasting of a few reds. We each did the red tasting, which consisted of a Pinot noir rose, Pinot noir dry red, cab Sauvignon and their flagship Shiraz. All of the wines were awesome! So awesome that we decided to join the jockey club to receive a case per year (yes....so good that we are having the case shipped across the world back to the USA!). The jockey club comes with tasting notes and recipes paired with each wine/vintage. Such a cool and fun way to experience the wine. After joining the club, we also each got a half glass of the shiraz (more like a full glass) and got to try a few other wines that we would be getting in our shipment. Loved the atmosphere of the cellar door and appreciate it is family run. The winemaker, his wife, and daughter were all in the cellar door talking to us as well as the locals grabbing a glass. What a wonderful spot and family-run business. Highly highly recommend stopping in here!!

What is not to love about a winery in winter that has a wood fire going??…read more Upon entry we were greeted by the cellar door staff who apologized that the fire was not as warm as it should be, he didnt force us to have a tasting but more so just let us be as we walked around and just took in the place and the scenery. There is a lot art work around the place which you can wander through in your own time. The wine selection is nice and the staff are knowledgeable about the varieties. I did enjoy these wine more so a few years ago but in saying that you cant go past a glass (or bottle!) of Church Block. They have cheese and crackers for purchase if you want to have more than just a tasting where you can sit inside next to the fire or outside. They also have a box of toys in the cellar door corner to keep little people entertained.

Kids are welcomed here as there is a kids corner whilst parents indulge in wine tasting and cheese platter. Some of my favourite drops would have to be the rich bodied Church Block and the delightful sweet Mrs Wigley Moscato. Wirra Wirra is just perfect in so many ways, it's perfect to visit during the day or a weekend getaway among the stunning views of McLaren Vale.

We tried a wide variety of their wines including: -Verdelho - excellent fruity white wine -Rose- light red and tastes of raspberry -Little demon blend ( cab+Malbec) - delicious raspberries and chocolate - Malbec - very dry, fruit forward - K.i Shiraz - tastes of the sea (our least favorite) - Lime cave cab -typical big cab, earthy - Eocene ancient vines Shiraz -balanced and rich - really good. Prices at the winery were very reasonable ranging from $23-$40 per bottle. The quality of the wines could easily support higher prices if they were available in the states ( which unfortunately they are not ). Super friendly people round out this great spot. Recommended.

I had…read morebeen here many years ago for a Sunday Live concert presented by ABC Classic FM, so have very fond memories of drinking shiraz and listening to live classical music ;) The cellar door is your typical gorgeous stone building so common in this area, and we were greeted by friendly staff. The power went out pretty much as soon as entered (it wasn't us!!), and the staff dealt with this in good humour ;) I was stunned by the amount of wines that can be bought by the dozen here for under $150 - WHAT??? What surprised me even more was that we were offered tastings of all of them, which we weren't expecting. Apparently their 'Gilded Lilly' range are for export, and this is the surplus or cancelled orders - they are excellent quality, and worth far more than the asking price. We ended up purchasing a dozen 2010 Merlot, which was absolutely delicious! Their more well known range available in bottle shops is their Stock's Hill range, which is also excellent (but more expensive). This place is a hidden gem - I will definitely be coming here again to stock up!!

It is set just to the left and behind the Hahndorf Inn. Look for a barn looking building near the car parks. The set up is very cute, an old barn with modern touches. The walls are lined with gorgeous bottles and a fridge is keeping the whites cooled. The staff are attentive and very knowledgeable. If you want to learn more about viticulture or the wine region, you need only ask. The staff are very passionate about promoting what is special in the store. As for wine, a great collection awaits you. There are some main stream wines here, but also a fab collection of boutique drops. These wines will not be found at chain bottle stores. You need to go to independent bottle stores like this one. They are very particular about where they sell their wines. Also know that you will commonly find a tasting on the busy weekends, so that is always a bonus! Love this Wine Centre, it's small but impressive!

Next we tasted three equally stunning wines - two of which were standouts, the Hahndorf Hills Winery rose' (2015) and the Kersbrook Hill premium cab sav cuvee. Both, while very different were stunning! The rose was light and fruity (watermelon, cherry) without being overly sweet. A great pair for spicier cuisine (Indian, Asian) or with bold cheese (think blue cheese). The cab sav could easily serve as a welcome beverage upon a guests arrival or paired with seafood (shrimp, crab). Again - STUNNING!!

You pay $15 entry fee just to see the inside of the building, resembling a twisted rubik's cube (they currently have a Salvador Dali sculpture exhibit which you can pay an additional $10 to see), and there is a bottom floor of... strange, modern, occasionally-creepy art. Then you go up to the top floor for tastings, which allows you to try the whole menu. On the plus side, there is a nice variety of styles and varietals here, including more unique ones like sparkling chambourcin and naturally fermented sagrantino. A small group of friends and I paid a visit to Paxtons and it was a really nice experience. The wine is organic and biodynamic and the business evidently has strong ethics. They also had an information board up which explained how biodynamic farming/vineyards work as a philosophy. You've got a fan in me already when I can learn something new from a board like this! McLaren Vale is beautiful and the converted sheep farm to winery is no exception. The gentleman assisting with serving was knowledgeable (it's a family business!), as well as generous with the tasting serves :) I enjoyed most of the reds and whites we tried and ended up buying a bottle (For approximately $15) for my parents and another for my friends and I to enjoy with out picnic lunch. There's also a few cheeses and cold meats available for purchase although we didn't buy any as we had lunch packed. I enjoyed both the tasting and the rustic and family business atmosphere
