Ah, Southport. When it comes to a night out there, the variety of nightlife on offer has always been somewhat poor. The majority of clubs in the area cater to those types of people who love their commercial dance music, or those who love their commercial R 'n' B. Unlike many other towns and cities, Southport never really had a venue that played alternative or indie music through until the early hours (apart from Fubar, a strange alternative club that existed for a while). That was until the arrival of Underground, a lower level indie club that gave the local residents the sort of place they'd been craving.
It has since changed hands and become a 'mountain-themed' bar (wooden benches and a DJ hut is basically all that's changed) but the premise is basically the same, as Alpine offers a place where people can enjoy indie music and generally get a bit rowdy dancing on tables and such.
The music there these days veers a bit more towards the commercial pop side of things but it's still probably the only place in Southport where you can hear Example and Blink 182 played one after another. The drinks prices are quite expensive but we usually go there late at night after going to other places to drink first, so it's never too much of an issue if you plan well.
With it being underground, it does get pretty hot and sweaty which isn't the best, and they do have a 'toilet attendant' (man who attacks you with aftershave) in the men's despite it being tiny, but overall Alpine is a good place to go if you don't mind getting a bit hot and sticky. read more
