I've used Alsto Heat many times over 30 years or so, and in the past found them a good local company whose charges compared well. Not so any more though. I'm slowly paying off a bill for almost £500, when the original request was simply a gas safety check plus re-siting of an old heater (gas connection already there for this).
My gas heater had been left in pieces, needing a new thermo-couple, and I waited several weeks to hear from them. Eventually chasing this up, I was told that the part could not be obtained. In the meantime, I had been sent an invoice for well over £400 (and I can tell you I was rather shocked).
I then called the engineer out both to put my fire back together and to investigate a faulty switch on a different heater. The man found nothing wrong, and left within minutes. I was then sent a second invoice for £40-£50. Years ago I would probably not have been charged at all for this - so clearly success has gone to someone's head.
I wrote to the Boss and queried the high cost - almost £500 for a gas safety check, an unusable heater left in pieces and a 'non-job', which to my mind gave him ample opportunity to review the matter and use his judgement about what was fair. I did get a polite reply, but no hint of a price reduction - it merely requested that I pay up.
Over the years there have been several occasions when something was broken following a plumber's visit, and always the said Boss claimed that it was nothing to do with his staff. On recently querying a broken toilet lid at another property, I was assured that he trusts his staff and they would tell him if they had broken anything. (I'm sure they would!!) Never any attitude of open-mindedness or gesture of goodwill - I've always had to bear the cost of damages, even if I am certain that a plumber's heavy-handedness was responsible.
Considering my recent experiences with Also Heat, a three-star rating would be too generous. Make up your own mind about things - but for my part I will be looking for a new company to use in future. read more
