We walked in on Easter not sure what to expect- but stoked they were open - and it turned into a great experience. We got multiple tastings and ended up leaving with a few bottles. Tastings are cheaper than nearby wineries and the wine tender was awesome! She was friendly and knowledgeable and let us revisit wines. There's mini Hershey chocolates to snack on during the tasting and self serve water. You can also sit outside in the back to enjoy a glass and even order food from the restaurant. Solid quaint Hopland spot. Easy parking. Check it out!

So we decided to stop in again to see if our previous great experience would be continued. No worries - the gal helping us taste their wine selections of the day was courteous, kind and knowledgeable about the local wines. We found ourselves tasting wines we had never heard of before, and ended up buying 6 bottles to take home! Hopland is such a sleepy place and I understand there are a few good restaurants there as well. If you are on your way to Ukiah or Mendocino, do yourself a favor and stop in at SIP Wine Tasting Room. You will be glad you did!

It was their Italian wines (Primitivo, Docetto, Quadriga, and Uber Tuscan) that first caught our attention. Absolutely delicious and immediately drinkable reds, though any could of course benefit from a little nap to round out even more. Maybe it's just me, but you really can pick up the hints of lavender in these big reds, which really speaks to the terroir of the Anderson Valley grape sourcing. We also loved their Bliss label of more cost-conscious yet equally delicious wines. Their rose really shines under this label and makes for superb hot sunny day drinking. Also, their sparkling rose and brut do NOT disappoint. Their tasting room in Hopland, while not as charming as the Philo garden and barn, is still inviting. They have a tasting available daily, with indoor as well as outdoor patio seating. You can apply tasting fees to any purchase you make. Don't miss Brutocao on your next trip along 101 to Northern California.

Fetzer has my heart! I know that their wines are typically low-end and widely distributed, but that…read moredoesn't diminish the amazing quality of wine that they have. Fetzer Vineyards isn't open to the public for tastings (anymore). It used to be many years ago, but it has since become a production facility that also houses several wine club member shipments for pickup. One of my friend's who used to live in Ukiah told me about their locals wine pickup membership program. Ever since then, I've been hooked on their deals. Fetzer has a community wine sale on the 3rd Saturday of every other month where you can buy cases of their wines for dirt cheap. I'm talking bottles that are priced as low as $2.50 each! And, it's not cheap quality wine either. Most of the time, they're wines that they may have a surplus of, are trying to get rid of to bring in the new year selection, or bottles that may have visual defects. What's also amazing is that the deal includes other wines that aren't labeled directly under the Fetzer brand, but under their sister brand Concha y Toro. If you didn't already know, Concha y Toro purchased Fetzer Vineyards back in 2011. If you're into Chilean wine, Concha y Toro has some amazing varietals. They own several other brands under their name, and they're also the largest wine producer in Latin America (and now also one of the largest in the US). So in addition to the Fetzer favorites, their deals also often include wines under many of Concha Y Toro's other wine labels including Cono Sur, Frontera, and Casillero del Diablo. So, what's the catch?! The wines are pickup only. Yep. You gotta trek it all the way out to Hopland to pick up your cases. You can designate someone else to pick up your wine if they bring the receipt, but... it has to be picked up. They don't ship these wine deals. And the wine must be picked up during the day of the sale between 9 am and 12 pm only. A bit strict, but did you really think that they'd be offering these kinds of deals to everyone?! I usually come out to the area at least once or twice a year, so I usually plan my trips around the days of their wine sales if I can. You have to sign up on their Fetzer community website to be notified of when they're having the sales. It's free to sign up, and they don't bombard you with a ton of emails. They'll only send you an email to let you know when the next community wine sale is and/or if they have any specials (which is usually pretty rare). They also have mystery case deals that range from $30-$35 where you'll receive different bottles of discounted wine from Fetzer and wine labels under the Concha y Toro brand. I've purchased a few of these cases in the past and it's always exciting to see what kinds of wine that I receive. Although I really enjoy many of the wines under the Concha y Toro label, my absolute favorites are from the Fetzer brand. Fetzer's Gewurztraminer and Riesling are some of my absolute favorites! I try to snag a case of these when they have them featured in the community wine sale. If I don't want or need an entire case, I usually have a friend who's down to split a case with me. I will always be a fan of Fetzer's wine. Don't let the name fool you; they definitely make some damn good wine.
